#2
word of warning this model doesnt play divx files but other than that it is a top bit of kit at a reasonable price
#3
Great price for a top brand. Quality sound! Merry Xmas. Heat and rep added.

bought this from amazon three months ago for £142 and that was a bargain, but at this price it's a steal, don't hesitate just buy,it's an amazing piece of kit.
#5
i have this hooked up to PS3 and Sony HDTV - fantasic bit of kit. I was happy with it for £130 so this is a great price!
#6
I would personally look at a seperate amp and speakers... These all in 1 systems are terrible, lack inputs and when one thing goes faulty the whole lot is useless as opposed to replacing the individual piece.
#7
Looks like a good deal. Is it easy to make this multi region?
#8
No USB and DivX :(

Fair comment however, they are more than adequate for most homes and at the prices these kind of things are coming down to; it's probably going to be cheaper & easier to replace the whole lot rather than find a speaker that matches what you have already so that balance of sound is correct etc etc. It's not going to owe anybody much if they get 3 or more years out of it is it?
Hot deal.

alot of lip sync issues with samsung surround sounds from reading threads on av forums
#17
This is a top system and you'd have to spend 100's more on separates to get close to the quality of this unit.

This is HOT!
#18
arent these things a pain with all the cables? how about wireless ones?
#19
Hi folks, anybody know any good deals on 5.1 surround sound systems with tall floor speakers, preferably hdmi?

I bought these a few months ago at about 10 quid dearer.

Brilliant system, 2 things to note.

IF you are connecting system for the PS3, dont plug it into the TV, buy an optical cable for around a tenner (probs less) and plug optical ps3 to sound system.

I also bought 4 wall speaker mounts and cable tidys for along the walls and skirting.
#21
Have this with my PS3 and Sony Tv, quality piece of kit. Easy set up and great sound. Obviously it would be nice to have no wires but I honestly doubt it at this price!
#22
No divx on this is a real deal breaker for me.
#23
what is divx and what does it do?

got the same setup, can't fault it

If you have a 360 or ps3 just stream Divx through that, There is absolutely no need for divx if you have either and most people do!

What would i rather do, go to the expense and time of burning a Divx file onto disc and then watching it on the system when i can just stream it from my PC to the 360 / PS3 Which would be connected via optical to the sound system?

All those who cant do this if your after Divx playback then i understand this isnt for you.

But i believe there arent very many of you! I just bought one, Wont be using the DVD player at all!

HOT HOT HOT!!!:santa:

Heat and rep - I was only looking at one in Sainsbury's reduced from £199.99 to £129.99 but I do not know if it was the 260 or lesser 230 - I wanted an upscaler and have a Bravia TV so it should work well with this

Question - does it mean I only get surround sound with a DVD playing or will the TV sound also come through this system?
#27
Showing up over £200 nows!
#28
Ok now thats strange!! Its showing up as £117 :S

Thanks for the heads up.
Play and amazon seem to have great reviews so I am unsure now.
I like the samsung as it comes with tall boy speakers.

Anyone else have any suggestions who may have either system?
#31
hmmm what's the RRP?
#32
Anyone know how much the dvd player is worth on its own as I dont need it as I have a ps3 and hd player.

You can get surround sound from the tv, just need to connect them together via scart for example and then set the dvd player to 'tv'

You will only get stereo sound when connected to your TV - through all 5 speakers though...

I think he means, will the sound from normal TV channels also come through the Sony system or not? For example, is this system only good for watching DVDs or can you also enjoy the surround sound watching Sky using this Sony home cinema system? I am curious to know the answer myself.

This system can output your TV's sound - But you wouldn't get surround sound, just stereo

Damn, that's such a shame otherwise I would have gone for it as I do not watch DVDs very often Thanks for letting me know.

Surely that answer depends on how you are watching non dvd TV. If the programme is being broadcast in 5.1/DTS then it will play okay. No cinema system can output a better quality than the signal received (apart from phantom modes that nearly always are rubbish). I am not up on what sky/freeview/virgin output in relation to 5.1/dts, but if they broadcast it the Sony will decode and play it.

EDIT

A quick search on google. It seems Sky HD is broadcast in Dobly Digital, but I think the real key here is that the Sky HD box has an optical out. If the non HD box is just scart I would say its a problem.

For freeview, Humax 9200 has optical out, newer 9150 does not.

So it depends on the feed to the Sony.
