SONY DCR-SX50E Camcorder £149.99 @ Argos

First post so here goes.
This camcorder is around the £300 mark in most places including play and amazon, so is a seriously hot deal.
Before voting cold read this brief guide:
Go onto the Argos website and reserve at a branch the Sony DCR-SX30S (Catalogue number 563/3520). It's listed at £149.99.
OK for the fun part, after you have paid and go to collect your item; you in fact receive the SX50! I believe this is nationwide since I know a number of people around the country who have been out and bought one of these. On the Argos website it states that the SX30 maybe substituted for the SX50.
If you are in any doubt then ask to see the box before you pay.

Further to this you can also claim up to £60 cashback direct from Sony;
http://www.currys.co.uk/store_doc/pd...%20Leaflet.pdf Has been confirmed by Sony themselves that this is not store specific.

Happy days.

argos dont even fo the sx50, which in itself is rubbish....doesnt even film hd!
#2
Cashback would be £30 for a Sony SD camera. Sounds like a good deal if they do provide the SX50 as this would be half the price of any other retailer.

Hi
Thanks for posting. And welcome to HUKD.
It is good practice to also add the merchant and price to the title, a direct link and an image. It helps people who are just browsing through. And in my experience your post will get a few more “hot” votes.
Emmajk42 / Juliet_Bravo wrote a couple of very comprehensive and excellent guides for newcomers to HUKD here: - http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/145906/newcomers-advice-on-hotukdeals-gene/

This is a link, made by rayman, which explains how to add images in great detail. It’s worth taking a look at if you are going to post more deals in future : - http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/339941/how-to-post-and-host-images-for-thr/
They are well worth taking a look at.
Again, thanks for posting, and welcome to HUKD.

Cheers andy thanks for that mate! Stigma I know they don't list the SX50 which is ironic, but people like myself have had one of these for a ridiculous price.
#5
Good deal - a good second hand Sony SD camcorder (PC109 etc) will set you back at least this much, so this is a bargain.
#6
Good Deal!

Looks like a great deal however in your post you mention seeing the box before paying, how would you do this at Argos?

And if they then brought out a DCRs30 could you get a refund?
#17
No refunds.
#18
KOGONAI
No refunds.

Definitely no refunds, even if you're returning it straight away?

I think the OP meant go to customer service and ask them you'd like to look at the camcorder before buying it and they'll be more than happy to do so. Used this service many times, myself, saves you the hassle of refunds.

Actually, I brought a PSP like a year ago and like a fool I forgot to add the extra items to get them free. Anyway customer service happily returned the PSP and let me buy it again with all the items.

I have to say that i found Argos customer service appalling; their 'default' setting is to prevent anyone getting refunds. Cheap stuff? Yes - but watch out if you have any probs. I had trouble with a vacuum cleaner and three or four of the plonkers took turns switching it on and off before deciding that there was nothing wrong with it. When i politely pointed out out that they were not technically qualified to test electrical equipment, i got into a right ding dong. Finally , a balding, bespectacled 'duty manager' clearly suffering from 'little man' syndrome, suggested that if it were sent back to manufacturers and found not to be faulty, then i would incur a £30 'fee'. I asked (foolishly as it turned out) about the concept of goodwill and customer service, but his eyes remained glazed over....

Just go to the collections point and ask someone to have a look at the box; I've never had problems myself. And yeah, the customer service is pants!

Don't get me wrong I've had problems with their customer service, myself. But here's what you do, if they refuse to take back your item just try another store and another until they do. ;-) Also I find it shocking 'bout your vacuum cleaner, I've given mine back 'bout 5 times being replaced there and then. You just need to find a nice store. Oh and make sure every time you give something back you ask for a gift card instead of a replacement so when you buy it again they give you a new receipt. :)

I got this cam (Sony DCR-SX30S)a few months ago when it was £199.99 in Argos after my son dropped my VERY expensive hd camcorder but I was more saddened about the lost footage. So after looking at many types of camcorders I chose this one.If it gets dropped I will still have my footage(om sd card). For ease of use I use a 4gb card and when full just pop it in my lappy and burn a dvd.So easy.Picture quality excellent for the price. In fact much better than my last one.high quality gives you just under an hour of filming on 4 gb card.

I think you've been unlucky.

I used to be responsible for CS at a larger Argos store, and the "default setting" was very much to refund or replace whereever possible.

Every time I have been since I left, I have had decent service, and no questions asked on returns.

Then you politely state that according to the law of the land, returns or repairs must be made to the retailer that you originally purchased said item from. Sending it off to the manufacturer would be their option, but you would still be entitled to a refund or an exchange. They must incur additional expenses, not you. This £30 charge is nonsense. I would have laughed in his face, ordered an immediate refund or Trading Standards would have got involved.

It's such a shame when companies do these sorts of tactics as not many people are aware that the law is on the side of the consumer. All these stories about companies charging "restocking fees" are also illegal. The consumer must not be out of pocket.
