Same price at amazon, not a hot deal, and does not get rated that good. Yes has good features, but can do better.

Can't see it for same price on Amazon, cheapest at the moment is £178?

Yes canada 16, go on then, if you think you can do better for a similar price do let us know? I'm dying to hear your seemingly learned opinion...

It's spec is impressive but the review on Amateur Photographer was disappointing. Does anyone have experience of how this stands up against the Lumix TZ-40 in terms of performance?

Dint say there was a camera for the same price, I said reviews are poor. I need a WiFi camera as well but waiting for boxing day sales.

Plenty of stores out and about too. They were taken over by Peter Jones when they were on the brink of going in to administration. Closed the non money making stores down and kept all the other ones running. Think they made a profit last year too.

Panasonic TZ35 (20x zoom) was listed here a few days ago for £99 which would be very hard to beat. If you need 30x zoom there's currently £30 cashback on TZ60 making it around £260.

Took the plunge, as have seen this in action and it's absolutely fantastic.

Got it for £149, and doubled up with £75 worth of Tesco vouchers to get it for free!

Very happy bunny, thanks OP!

As for Jessops, they're on the comeback. They're opening stores in Sainsburys now (Waterlooville for instance)

I tried this HX50V out and while it's a great little camera it, each version of it just keeps getting fatter to accomodate the increased zoom range. For me, it's now got too fat to comfortably fit into a trouser pocket.

The original HX5V was a slim little beast with 10X zoom and 'only' 10MP, but took cracking photos. Loved it, still have it, but the zoom switch spring broke.
Borrowed a HX9V from a friend for a while, nice camera but took slightly worse photos than the HX5V, mostly due to the 16MP sensor.... but before I could buy one, a great deal on the new HX20V turned up and I bought that instead.
HX20 has 20X zoom and 1080p 50. Considerably fatter than the HX5V, but the new features make up for that, fantastic video quality, anti shake, sweep panorama, 3D, GPS, good display etc etc

Much though I'd like some of the features of the HX50V, bottom line is that it's now no longer as portable as its predecessors, so very difficult personally speaking to justify upgrading.

If you can live with the extra bulk it's a cracking camera at £149. Hot.

Is it worth the upgrade from HXV30?

Jessops won't price match due to the discount code

The HX30V is just the HX20V with added wi-fi, so see my comment above re size, it's probably down to whether you can live with the increased size or not. The exposure compensation dial is a nice to have along with the increased zoom range. If you can find a shop with one in, best to try it out first.

I have the 9V and was thinking of replacing it for this, but I may just keep it for a while longer. Any recommendations for an upgrade?

Thanks OP :)
To confirm, jessops wont match the price with the voucher, which is crazy as everyone can use it. Ive just ordered this after returning a refurb unit back to sony. The menu dial had a mind of its own otherwise in great condition.

It really is a good camera, and crazy as it sounds, this is replacing my NEX-F3 and lenses which ive just sold on ebay. I had enough of lens swapping, dust on the sensor, and sheer bulk.

i know how you feel about swapping the lenses but you shouldn't be getting dust on the sensor all the time
sure it will be fine in good light but do you not think you are going to get frustrated when the shutter speeds smear everything in lower light?
how much did the f3 go for if you dont mind me asking? got one to sell too as got an a5100 recently

It went for £250 with selp1650 and sel55210. Its pros and cons for both, however if you dont pixel peep for me the hx50 is far easier to live with, the zoom really is amazing, even up to 60x is of useable quality.

The video quality also blows the F3 out of the water.

I found i took far less photos over the year i had the F3 compared to my previous camera the HX9.
