Actually only £147 with £40 cash back...

Amazing deal, I paid £100 more than this less than 6 months ago, and that was with Sony staff discount.
Great camera, packed with features.

This or Samsung NX3000?

This or Samsung NX3000?

I had a click and collect for the NX3000 but waited to see how much this would be - went for this (no idea which is better though...)

Managed to order one, price showing £305 now ;-)

I was going to get myself a A6000 but can't resist this at £147 after cashback. Totally different cameras but I'll no doubt have some fun with this.
#8
Got in my cart, and the price stayed there for 15 minutes, so grab one... still thining of NX3000 more compact.... so?

I've got an a6000 but ordered this too as a birding camera as 1200mm equivalent is untouchable on a Nex using sensible money

After cash back and Xmas voucher makes it £122 for me so worth a punt

What a lighting deal, everybody can buy at this price ... just bought one, now preparing a battle for claim £40

Just delivered, Nice camera! now time for £40 cash back https://campaign.odw.sony-europe.com/dynamic/campaign/redemption/dime_en_GB.jsp?page=landing

Lucky you :(

I foolishly didn't keep an eye on the lightning deals. Can't believe I paid £53 more in the last lightning deal...

Slightly soured on the idea of the HX400v now and as the image quality is arguably worse than my old HX20v it hadn't overly impressed me.

Now I'm inclined to return the Sony and try the Panasonic FZ72 (£155 after cashback)...
#15
Thanks OP, I was keeping an eye for the relisting, and managed to grab one today , the price was a bargain using the bespoke vouchers collected last week and with the Sony Cashback counted, though the Camera has good reviews I see the lightning deal has not attracted much users even after 30 minutes just 10% claimed :-/ don't know if this due to spending steam down after Christmas or have i bought a poor camera?!!
#16
I own this camera, its very good for close ups and portraits / night shots it has been superb. I had the Panasonic listed above but it was not very good at low light and when I am at motor races. I was suggested the Sony once I returned the panasonic, and it was like night and day.

Again, people want cameras for different things but for me this camera has been spot on :)

BTW the price is now £199 not £187

Is serial number only situated on the camera itself? No on the box?

It's on the box and also the base of camera.

I dont want to open the box.... Is serial number starts with S01 or P, or which barcode is it 1 or 2? The third is POS one. Thanks.
#20
The one on the box isn't the serial, mine was just on the camera

Perhaps yours was a different box; mine had a label with a number "S01-{serial number}-6"...
#22
So your box and camera match 7 numbers? That number after S01? Sorry for that, just want cashback and leave unopened box for a present....

On my box the 7 digits between the hyphens in the code starting "S01" is the serial number from the base of the camera. Sorry I wasn't clear before.
#24
Did you get any confirmation of your cashback? I got technical error page move back and pressed submit again, it went trough but didn't say anything just went to sony website....or should I repeat? Only 2 weeks left....
#25
I got an email straight away saying it had been received and they would confirm when they'd looked at it

Thanks, it looks there was a problem with Safari browser I guess, so I used IE instead, now I got a registration code.

When I first tried submitting my claim I got error screens; I presumed it was because I was claiming when the web site was down (around 4am) and when I tried the next day it went through OK and I got a confirmation email.
I've since cancelled the claim as I've returned the HX400v. The Panasonic FZ72 is more to my liking, despite the lack of fancies (like apps, wifi and tilting screen).

anyone got their cashback yet?

I got mine yesterday (claimed 24th December), but I've transferred it back to Sony as I returned the camera to Amazon - hopefully I won't regret being honest if my Panasonic cashback doesn't pay out;)

Bizarrely my experience was the opposite of yours - I returned the Sony HX400v and kept the Panasonic FZ72 because the Sony was so slow...

I have a Sony HX20v and as the HX400v is so similar the Panasonic was quite attractive offering a different shooting experience especially with it's 20mm wide-angle.

The Panasonic isn't definitively 'better'; it was quite a subjective decision in the end - I had both cameras and tested them over about a week, in some tests the Sony was better in others the Panny. The HX400v does do very well in low light by combining images; but that's no use if your subject is a two year-old and doesn't stay still; in the end that was the main reason I didn't keep the Sony as it's flash mode was dreadfully slow and Sony support assured me my camera wasn't faulty.
