Been searching for a decent, sub £100 camera...

this one worth it?
#10
Had one of these for a while now, I'm no expert but really pleased with it. Much better than the one I had before. Well worth £70 anyway!
#11
For the difference in money is this a better camera than the TZ10 posted the other day?
#12
What Batteries does this camera take?
Thanks

Does anyone know how this compares to the IXUS 130? I was set on picking one of those up but this seems a better deal?

Been looking into getting a new camera for the summer, but not really clued up on the specs etc. Does anybody know which is the better deal out of this camera or this one?:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SAMSUNG-PL201-14MP-7X-ZOOM-DIGITAL-COMPACT-CAMERA-BL-/360372445103?pt=UK_CamerasPhoto_DigitalCameras_DigitalCameras_JN&hash=item53e7df1faf#ht_2518wt_932

any help would be great, cheers.

Think this will get hot, hot, hot - Comet were knocking these out at £99 (cheaper than anywhere else) recently so this is a nice saving!!

We have no idea what you actually want from a camera so we can't really tell you but...

The Samsung has a slightly better optical zoom and uses SD/SDHC memory over MS (cheaper, basically)

I have to say it would take more than that to tempt me away from the Sony. I've had 2-3 Sony digicams and they've been universally brilliant, decently made, lasted ages, great pics, no hassles...

Samsung kit - well, let's just say I've not had the same quality experience with it...

This is soooo cheap - just buy it ;)

I think that advantage is redundant as most Sony compacts are dual slot and take either MemoryStick or standard SD cards.

I'd go for the Sony. HD Movie, sweep panorama, and best in class optical image stablisation. No contest

Anyone know for sure if this can do auto exposure bracketing (for HDR) - have tried to find out, but different sites seem to have different answers.
#26
excellent. Thanks.
#27
Will this have face detection on it?
#28
Just seen it has got face detection.

One of the reviews on Amazon mentions it has 'Backlight' scene mode which stacks multiples pictures for a wider dynamic range. On my Sony (HX9) the auto-HDR mode is called 'Backlight Correction' and this sound like the same thing. I can't tell if this W380B has separate bracketed exposure mode, but is unlikely as it's not marketed as a enthusiast manual mode-laden camera.

This camera has a dual-format memory slot that takes SD cards as well as MS.
#31
Thanks, been looking for a cheapish decent camera to take out and about and not cry too much if it was lost. Got free next day delivery for signing up to Amazon prime which you can cancel at anytime (as soon as the camera arrives). Lets see if the camera makes it back from Glastonbury safely ??? The Sweep Panorama should be great for crowd shots etc.

Exceptional price for a quality compact camera with a very useful 24mm equivalent wide angle lens. Not looking for one myself at the moment, but if I was I would definitely go for this at this price.

Read a review in PC Pro (who admittedly aren't the greatest of camera reviewers) who didn't like it that much, as they felt the lens wasn't good enough for the 14 MP sensor, resulting in shots that weren't particularly sharp and were a bit noisy in shady areas. This was at a price of over £200, though, for £69.99, its got to be a steal.

Re the comparison with the TZ10: they're not really directly comparable, the TZ10 is a 'travel zoom' with a 12x zoom lens, the W380 is an ultra compact with a 5x lens. The TZ10 probably produces marginally better photos and has the extra zoom range, but it is approaching 3 times the cost - there's no competition IMO, unless you really need an extra long telephoto.

Re the comparison the the Ixus 130, the Ixus 130 probably produces very marginally better photos, but the W380 has a lens with much better range (24-120 vs 28-112mm) and has more features. Again at this price, the W380 wins hands down IMO.

good price, but there are some mixed reviews on this camera (http://www.testfreaks.co.uk/digital-cameras/sony-cybershot-dsc-w380/)

You can set the camera to take 2 images when it recognises a difficult-to-shoot scene. Depending on the scene it uses different shutter speed/sensitivity/brightness/contrast and then allows you to choose the best one. The scenes are Twilight/Twilight Portrait/Twilight using a tripod/Backlight/Backlight Portrait.

NO - no comparison. Different class of camera, but then a very different price point too.
#37
Ordered one..... Thanks!
#38
This is bad!... very tempting.

I like...
24mm (equivalent) wide angle
Takes SD cards (as well as silly memory stick)
Panaroma mode, because I'll actually use it rather than taking loads of pics and never sticthing them
F2.4 lens (lets lots of light in, so works a little bet in low light)

Problem is I've got a Panasonic LX3 with a similar feature set, (a chunk less pocketable, but a chunk better quality).
#39
Gonna order one I think.

Any cheap deals on memory for this that I can order aswell as the camera..

I Have this camera and have found the panorama function a bit of a gimmick. The panoramic pictures are very grainy.
