Look for a review for the Sony SLR system, not just the camera.

I have the previous model to this ......A200 and its an excellent easy to camera.I would recommend Sony DSLR's,especially to anyone thinking about getting their first DSLR. :)

Good deal.

I recently got into DLSR's and spent a long time looking at them.

The Sony system has pro's and cons.

Pro's are:
Well specced for the price.
Onboard image stabilisation (so all lenses are stabilised)
Can use old minolta AF lenses which are cheap on the bay.

Con's:
Plasticy body (although not as bad as 'cheap' canon's.)
Fewer 3rd party accessories than Canon or Nikon.

Onboard image stabilisation is not necessarily a positive....
Not the best performer at this level but this price seems hot to me.....

I bought this some months ago for £300 when there was a cash back offer - mY main reason was I had 2 old large minolta lens which fit . Not a bad camera I do miss the live screen view tho

Who made you David Bailey? :whistling:

If asked, I'd recommend my 'cheap and plasticy' Canon 400D over this Sony camera any day..... however if I was to give any advice, don't be swayed by price alone, go into a camera shop and try each one out, you'll know which one feels better. You can take fantastic images with any DSLR.

Once you've bought one, it's then just a case of learning the basics and enjoy taking photos (which is the most important thing!). :)

I bought this last time, for the same price. It is a really nice camera! It makes beutiful images even if you just point and shoot;)

Its worth noting these cash back offers as well.

Sony 75-300mm f4.5-5.6 A Telephoto Zoom (Normally £179.99) Save £50 £129.99

Sony 50mm f1.8 SAM Portrait Lens (Normally £132.00) Save £20 £12.00
http://www.jessops.com/online.store/products/76287/show.html

I don't think the offer is limited to jessops so if you can find cheaper, quids in.

Should I post this as a new item?

I just posted a message about lens deals currently at jessops that would fit this camera, It was removed.. any ideas why?

i prefer my A200 than my bro in laws A230. Its not as comfortable to hold and is smaller, the controlls are not as nice too.

Yeah it has served me well.Really nice camera and great feel to it.Have heard that the newer camera bodies feel very plastic.Never played with any of them myself just what I have read about them.

I have the older A200 and it is a great little camera.

The A230 has a newer type of menu system which is probabaly easier for first time SLR users. The new 18-55 lens on the A230 is supposed to be much better all round (But slightly shorter zoom) than the A200 18-70 kit lens. One review here http://kurtmunger.com/sony_dt_18_55mm_f_3_5_5_6_samid140.html

If you shoot in Raw format these cameras are very good for the money

I was looking at DSLRs earlier this year and agree with MANJ_007. I tried the Sony A230, A330 and A380 models and found them quite uncomfortable to handle, whereas my friends A200 was much better.

So, I'd say that it is very important to handle any models you may be considering before taking the plunge.

Also, for most people, it will not matter which system you buy into, be it Canikon, Sony, Pentax, Olympus etc. most people will be able to get what they need for their camera.

I sort of agree. Canon's do fit the hands better but the 1000d entry level model feels very flimsy and toy like, even compaired to the Sony which in turn felt less robust than the Pentax, Nikon and Olympus SLR's I tried, whilst being more expensive than all of them.

Any DSLR can produce great shots though.

Its also worth noting that instore you get a free Sony Alpha bag with room for a couple of lenses.Think it retailed at about £40.All stock was gone but shipments were due out today and they ll honour the receipt for up to 2 months
