Lol, how amateurish. I can't believe I missed that as near 3 year member!

Great deal, especially as my laptop seems to crave these discs. It seems to have developed an allergy to my beloved Datawrite Titaniums.

Oh great. the unwashed see SONY and automatically think they're good.

Sony DVDs are unreliable, poorly manufactured coasters-in-the-making.

Jesus. Verbatims might be just that wee bit more expensive. But when your media lasts years and is read by everything you throw it at. THAT is a sign of good media.

If it doesn't say Verbatim or Taiyo yuden... then research first as to whether it's a good product or not. The afterdawn forums are a great help for this.

I don't feel like one of the 'unwashed' and am well informed of the Verbatim's and Taiyo's of this world. Never had a coaster with one of these, I also secretly hate Sony.

Hell, even my 10 year old TraxData discs all read fine!
#6
Mine too! lol

Maxell 100x pack are very good, have gone up to £13.49 but still a bit cheaper [also from play.com]

bit harsh cause you dont like the product doesnt make em a bad thing, Ive never had a problem with them and the reviews in play speak for themselves.

Verbatims are slightly better quality, but the Sony are decent enough (especially at this price!) Hot from me :)

Glad to see this has started getting the heat it deserves. As it was posted late at night I thought it was doomed to sink into the oblivion.

Sony use TY amongst others, although the last sony discs I got from Play were Made in India, so not exactly disc of the century...

thanks OP :)

very welcome nice to find a hot deal instead of just buying those others have posted

Never make the monumental mistake of thinking a 'named' disc brand is better - they are often worse as they use whatever dye manufacturer is priced most 'attractively' and have absolutley no guarantee of associated brand quality.

£7 for x50 isn't exactly cheap either, better to buy a few packs and offset the saving against the del charge and visit diskdepot.co.uk / svp.co.uk etc instead

CrackerJack
Some of the worst discs I have ever bought have come from SVP.

I have more faith in the discs sold by Play than SVP.

not to mention most people dont want to buy several packs just to offset the delivery cost, 50 will last me a while
#20
I got some of these in a WHS sale once - and these were made in Taiwan, a cut above the Indian dreck. I still got a few coasters and one disk to date now refuses to read in any machine, less than six months old.

Cheap no-names from SVP have fared better - nary a failed disk. Even with Bulkpaq back in the day. I now avoid the big names. It's just like buying Yves Saint Laurent 'designer' shirts from Sportsworld.

Still, these have got to be a bit better than Tesco disks *shudder*.
#21
THanks needed some of them aswell
#22
I have to agree with earlier posts regarding Verbatiim discs, I would never consider any other brand.
I must have burnt well over a thousand discs (CDs & DVDs) over the past 10 years and have used many brands but Verbatim is the only brand that has never produced a coaster.
You may save a few pennys but if you get a few duds in a pack then the price difference becomes even more neglegible. Then there is the fun you will have when you come to use the burnt disc (maybe years later for that valuable photo) only to find it is corrupt.
Cheap discs are a false economy and I would only ever buy Verbatim these days as I value my time and data:thumbsup:
#23
Beware, Verbatim discs use different dyes from batch to batch, sometimes CMC, and other cheap dyes.

Only T-Yuden , made by Epson/Seiko is the only guarantee of true quality, though Panasonic discs have always worked great too.........
#24
just realised, they are DVD +R.

+R is filth. wouldnt use it to store important data, +R file structure is not cd redbook compliant.
suspended#25
yeah shame they are +r.
-r FTW :)
#26
+R and -R should not be much diference?
#27
Sony DVD-+R incompatible with my Panasonic writer (latest firmware update). Sony (66% = 44 coasters out of 100), Verry good: Ricoh (1oo% = no coasters) and Maxell (99% = 1 coaster out of 100). So for me it's Ricoh, which was voted "the most compatible recordable DVD-+R" by an independent European test institute (equivalent to "Which" here in the UK). Price wise they are all about the same (cheap = 10p to 15p per disc). Don't know which dye they use but I don't care I just don't like coasters, which means I have to record one piece at least twice or three times.

redbook defines Audio CD's, so I'd hope they aren't redbook standard.

Verbatim never use "cheap" dyes for DVDR either - it's always MCC (assembled in either the CMC factory or the Moser Baer India factory) or Taiyo Yuden. The TYG03 used on verb -R isn't the best TY dye either.
#29
do you know if the current stock of 100 Verbatim -R's from play.com are MCC or TYG03?

cheers

£14.99 vs £6.99 isn't a 'wee bit more expensive'? Love to buy 'em but that premium is too high.

£15? £10 is around the going price (in a shop) for verb 16x 50packs. a few £ cheaper at fairs or online.

Obviously the high st will be more expensive, but they will also be more expensive for the sonys too.

I just realised you are quoting the play.com price for the 50packs, which is seriously messed up as they are usually ~£10 there, and the 100pack is available for £17.99 - a £2 premium over 50 of the sonys is nothing.

No idea, never bought verbs from play - I only ever buy verbs if I can either see them in person or if it's a shop like svp that lists the MID and manufacturers reorder number.
