Play.com have this Sony Ericsson C510 (Cyber-shot) Mobile phone reduced to £79.99 on Vodafone pay as you go. You may be able to get it for less using one of the attached vouchers ...

What makes the C510 a true "Cyber-shot" device is a combination of features such as autofocus, a camera light, face and smile detection, photo blogging capabilities and picture editing tools. One thing that Sony Ericsson are proud of is their "Smile Shutter" function that detects when the subject is smiling and then takes the photograph automatically.

The Sony Ericsson C510 Cyber-shot has a 2.2-inch QVGA scratch-resistant display, quad-band GSM support plus tri-band UMTS/HSPA connectivity. On board there's an accelerometer for auto screen rotation and motion gaming plus an M2 memory card slot and stereo Bluetooth. Threaded SMS/MMS (conversation style messaging) is among the latest Sony Ericsson features that's also on board the C510.

Nice looking phone for the money. Reminds me of the C902. Hot Here:thumbsup:
#3
Will this have Vodaphone branding and be tied to the Vodaphone network?
#4
Hot from me! Shame if it is branded, but not the end of the world. Need a new phone to go with all of the sim free offers going round

Unlock for FREE with http://www.aerix-group.com/index.html - I unlocked a W890i with it in a couple of minutes.

I tried posting this unlocking tool in the freebies section earlier but it was removed as the company isn't UK based.

I went from a k810 to this phone and I love it. All the features of the k800 but smaller, thinner, lighter. Pictures are on par although the c510 doesn't have a flash just a light so night time shots aren't as good. Definately recommend it.

Looks like a cool handset ...got quite a few features!!

remember asda is based on vodafone, so get a asda PAYG sim, so so cheap.. and your set!

i have this, its brill :)

dont know how to change my text message ringtone tho or if you can, if you do spill the beans!! ;)
#12
Nice phone and good price for it, though if you've got big fingers you might find the buttons a bit small!

jackvdbuk, to change the message ringtone is under sound & alerts same as the standard ringtone, scroll down a bit further to message alert (though there's not that great a choice of options - though you can choose to replace the Beep Beep message alert with a standard ringtone or an mp3).

if u r not fussed about getting a 24mths contract - voda are giving £90 quidco, and you can get this sim free on a 24 month contract for as little as £10pm...works out £6.25pm after quidco before VAT adjustment to 15%...no cashbacks involved.

Is the software on the phone exactly the same whatever the network? So if I unlock this and stick my o2 sim in it would be the same as if I bought it on o2, right?? Thx
#16
The latest Vodafone phones should already come unlocked. If not you can normally call customer services for an unlock code for free.

Phone will most likely have Vodafone branding.
#17
I'm not sure where you've sourced that information from but AFAIK Vodafone will only unlock phones free of charger after 12 months. If you want the code prior to that it costs money, probably between £10 and £20.

The W890i I unlocked yesterday was locked to Vodafone (it was a pay as you go handset).

Not exactly the same, the phone will almost certainly have the same features etc, but the menu themes/colours will be branded as Vodafone intended, but you'll be using another network's sim card.

ALL vodafone contract phones now come unlocked. they are just vodafone branded. google it. it was also posted here a while back. if they gave you a locked one post jan09, then call them to request an unlock code for free. you can also do it online.

sony ericsson mobs are easy to 'DEBRAND' ie get rid of the network logos etc to make it just like a sim free phone, google XS++ to find out.. I have done it a few times, if u need help google it or ask, i'll try to help

I've just go this phone on the Vodafone network on contract, and although Vodafone is branded on to it, I've tried other sim cards in it and they work fine so it's pretty much sim free, apart from internet access which will always be through Vodafone unless you unlock it professionally. Phew!

Such a good Phone! Key pad needs to get used to for quick texting, but the quality feel, ease of use are much to be desired and camera takes fantastic shots outside!

Buy one! YOu woin't be disapointed!

How does this phone compare to the K770i, which i'm currently using? As mentioned above Voda will only unlock phones if you've been on PAYG for 12+ months, otherwise it's £20. Therefore it pays just to keep a spare Voda sim, even if you're on another network, just for when these offers come up as I've noticed a lot of the best offers do tend to be on Vodafone phones. Another way around it is to buy the phone and get a friend who's already on a Voda contract (or 12+ month PAYG customer) to stick their sim in it, call Voda and they'll send them the unlock code for nothing.

Thanks for clarifying, this is a pay as you go phone though, so will be locked :).

Don't forget guys, this should be easily unlockable using the software here: http://www.aerix-group.com/index.html - it just takes a click of a mouse really.

its the same camera/lens so it should be identical.

But saying that, when i upgraded from the K810i to the C902 (3 mp to 5 mp) i actually thought the 3 mega pixel camera on the K810 took better pictures !!

Thats not the case with mine, mine was vodafone branded and locked to vodafone. It did not acept tmobile or O2 sim cards. So it cannot be guarenteed to be ''preety much sim free''. I unlocked it and it excepts O2 sim cards now.

Smaller and lighter could be attractive, but with the K800i, the biggest stumbling block is the battery life, it's shocking.

Is this the same for others, we have had 2 in the family and both be very poor.

Can anyone confirm this C510 does what it says on the tin regarding battery life, or near as damn it

My K800i lasts for ages although i dont use it much to be honest

I've only had mine a couple of weeks, but the battery life seems good to me - with occasional use (trying out camera/MP3 player, making a few calls, and a few more texts) it lasted the first week without needing charged. Dunno how it'll work out for someone who makes a lot of calls/makes regular use of the MP3 player/camera.....

Oh, and one of the first things I did was disable 3G to extend the battery life.

I bought this a couple of weeks ago to replace my old K800i but sent it back because the build quality was not up to the K800i standards: the buttons were not as positive, the battery cover was a complete nightmare to remove and the 4-way controller is tricky if you are used to the K800i's mini-joystick - I found it too easy to also press the centre 'select' button at the same time as a direction, and I don't have huge sossy fingers :) It just felt less solid then the K800i and a button stopped working within minutes of use - maybe one in a million but it was the final nail in the coffin.

However, I will say it looks the part and the camera is reported to be the same as the K800i albeit without the xenon flash. I personally find cnet do fair reviews so... http://reviews.cnet.co.uk/mobiles/0,39030106,49301479,00.htm

I decided on the W890i 'walkman phone' instead - £79.99 from Prepaymania or Amazon (which also comes from Preypaymania) - and you get a 2GB M2 memory card in the pack also :) The W890i has a poorer camera in that there is no autofocus or flash/light but because there is no autofocus it actually takes photos very quickly, and unless you are going for close-ups or 'arty' shots then the set focus is fine. The build quality of the W890i is rock solid, the buttons look small but are easy to use and, well, it's even better looking than the C510. The cnet review... http://reviews.cnet.co.uk/mobiles/0,39030106,49296030,00.htm

Great camera or great music, they both have their strong and weak points.

(Voted hot for this C510 deal)

Can you upload a photo you have taken with it mate? So I can see what the cameras like?

Also is there much branding on it?
