The wife got one a few weeks back on O2. She loves it an dthe camera is really quite good for a phone. She doesn't use any of the fancy bits that costs you to connect but it can connect to wifi networks which is quite handy.
She#s only on PAYG and uses about £10 a quarter but loves it's look and features etc.

There are a couple of big threads on here from when it has been on offer before.

I got mine at the start of April, absolutely fantastic phone, would highly recommend it. Any other questions just ask. Can debrand it for free aswell.

There an idiots guide to doing that?

Also was yours from e2save and unlocked?
#8
Can anyone who bought this from e2save confirm that it's unlocked?

Awesome. It appears that uses a proprietary OS like other Sony Ericsson feature phones which I have no problem with to be honest as the only application I use on my current W800i (was W900i but broke) is a J2ME based budgeting tool called spendometer.

I heard it likes to nag you about eco related things, is this easy to turn off?

Also, whats battery life and wi-fi performance like out of interest?

Any niggles whatsoever?

I use Vodafone PAYG currently but I think I'd want to unlock/debrand anyway.

I think I'll bet the 10 pound credit on England to beat Algeria @ betnow to get my money back.

Just to be certain, I'll wait until England are 3-0 up.

I wonder... is there anyway to use Mobile Credit to bet? Although of course I would want to withdraw any potential winnings not gain it as credit...

Just open an account with betnow making sure you enter the mobile number of your Vodafone sim.
You can bet in denominations of £3, £5 or £10 and Text bets from you mobile will cost 20p per bet. Therefore, the most you can get back will be £9.00 (3 x £3.00 bets) plus 60p text charges. If you don't want to take any risk, just bet on certainties like Brazil/N Korea and maybe wait until they are 2-0 up and hope that they have not closed the betting.

You will need to register your debit card on the site to get any winnings transfered to your current a/c. I registered by depositing £5.00 and putting it on Portugal to beat Mozambique but there maybe a way to register your card without depositing any money.

You will need to speak to their customer services to make your first withdrawal. It's a 0845 number but I just text "call me" to 89000 to speak to them for free. Withdrawals to your derbit card are straight forward.

Also, if you have future unwanted topups on other sims that you want to convert to cash, just text "call me" to 89000 to change your mobile number.

Got mine from O2 and it was locked, I know someone who can unlock them over the internet takes paypal and is well priced. No free unlocks yet.

I'll do a guide to debrand tomorrow and post it up.

How much to unlock?
#16
I am sure the e2save Elm is unlocked like most of their stock so hopefully, I won't need to unlock it.
I will know by tomorrow anyway.

Anyone else have trouble with e2save £0.01 charging policy triggering anti fraud blocks on their cards?
Pain in the arse.
#18
Topcashback has just tracked @£7.00. If I can get £9.00 of my £10 topup back at betnow.co.uk, the final cost of the Elm will be £70.95.
#19
Anyone have any niggles with this? I'm really tempted to get it as I currently have a W800i and have been on the lookout for a decent reasonably priced phone with reasonable camera and wi-fi for quite a while.

Just received the phone. No Vodafone branding on the box or on the phone itself as I expected. I am charging it and will post again to confirm it's unlock.
#22
I can confirm that this phone is unlocked with no branding whatsoever. I've managed to use my o2 sim with no probs.

Yes. This is basically a sim free unlocked mobile.

Anyone know what the data stream on this is like? I notice it can stay more or less connected to Facebook all the time. While it's not going to be constantly streaming data, I presume it checks FB periodically for updates and downloads them. Anyone know how much bandwith this takes, as I have 500MB a month and don't want to go over it?
#29
I'm not sure although judging by other Sony Ericsson's I've owned you should be able to disable that functionality. I doubt it uses that much bandwidth anyway...
#30
I'm still stuck in a rung with this one, haha. I have a w800i currently but have been on the lookout for a good priced phone with wi-fi and nice other features for quite a while but I don't know whether to go for this or an Android based phone when they get cheaper (if they do!).

Any idea how much data is on Vodafone PAYG or if packs are available? I intend to stay with vodafone as I am a member of a couple of vodafone family groups which include pretty much everyone that I ever call.

The only app I use is called Spendometer and is J2ME-based so would work on this phone fine as far as I can tell.

What is the included web browser like, better than Opera Mini?

What navigational software is available that is compatible with this phone, any with pre-downloaded maps?

Also, I assume with this using a proprietary OS there is no tethering or AP mode?
#31
I see, tethering could be pretty handy with my EeePC if I can get a good data package.

Any idea how much bandwidth is used downloading maps and such or if there is a way of downloading cached maps on a PC and transferring to the phone?

I haven't used Opera Mini in a while but I recall when I had my W900i a while back it was pretty good at resizing pages for a small-ish screen. Woah tabs sound awfully handy, it didn't have those back then...
#32
Ordered one :)

Seems an unbeatable feature set for the price and I'm not too bothered regarding the OS and, in fact, I'm used to the Sony Ericsson proprietary OS and I've taken a liking to it through my use of the W800i and w900i. Obviously the version on this phone will be somewhat upgraded but should still have a resemblance.

My £10 credit went on via betnow.co.uk:

Greece v Argentina 22/06/2010 Unsettled Argentina Winner (90 mins) £3.00 22/06/2010
Greece v Argentina 22/06/2010 Unsettled Argentina Winner (90 mins) £3.00 22/06/2010
Greece v Argentina 22/06/2010 Unsettled Argentina Winner (90 mins) £3.00 22/06/2010

= £12 I can withdraw, I think.

Finally updated whole £12.51 for me.
#34
Well done on making a profit.

£9 of my £10 top up went on betnow.
£3 Nigeria win
£3 Nigeria Lose
£3 Nigeria Draw.
It returned £8.70, the best possible outcome of the 3 bets.
#35
They want £15 minimum to withdraw with a bloody £1.50 withdrawal charge via the post office, totally crazy!

Bluesquare have no problem taking and crediting debit cards, neither should betnow, looks like my credit will be sitting there for a while till i find another sure bet.
#36
Just deposit £5 by debit card and withdraw the lot back to your debit card including the £5.00 without making a bet. For your first withdrawal, you need to speak to them. Just text Call me to 89000.

I think the minimum withrawal limit for debit cards is £5. Yesterday, I had £4.12 sitting in my a/c so I deposited £5.00 and withdrew £9.12 back to my Debit card.
#37
Ahhh so I assume withdraw on card option only appears once you register a card and deposit, phew! Post Office thing seem very silly.
