This is my first post here so hope I did everything right :)

I ordered one of these phones from Phones4u yesterday and it arrived this morning unlocked! :)
It doesn't say anywhere on Phones4U that it's actually unlocked but mine definately is as I have just tried my Orange sim card and it works.
These are brand new, boxed and sealed. There is no branding on the phone or the software. The colour is also black, not silver as shown on Phone4u website.

If you are thinking of buying one then make sure you get the T-Mobile PAYG, the one in the link provided, else you may end up with a branded and locked phone.
They are currently in stock online.

Edit: There IS T-Mobile branding in the software but not on the phone itself.

K750 & W800 are the same phone indifferent cases. www.wotanserver.com will do the job for about £5 if you want to do it.

The biggest difference is in the MP3 player features & sound. On the W800 you get the proper sony Walkman MP3 player, more/better sound options(extra bass sounds fantastic), ability for MP3 album folders instead of having to create playlists manualy etc. Also you get the flight mode where you can start the phone up as just an MP3 player(which also saves on battery if you don't need the phone on).

As Road_Hog mentioned, the K750 & W800 are the same phone in a different case, just the firmwares are different & the W800 is quite a bit more expensive.

I used an online company to get the firmware, can't remember the exact name of the site, something like seuniverse or similar, payed £5.00 and used my standard USB cable that came with the phone.

Thanks [and to the user who posted the link above also] for the firmware info / site and what not. I was going to goto market Saturday and get it done - if its more then a fiver I'll just do it via the site provided.

Nice deal, would get one myself, but ya know, I already have one :giggle:

Does doing this have any effect on your dictionary for texting?

I have had the K750i since it first came out and have every bad word, curse, nickname and slang imaginable.

Apart from the firmware does that mean that they're both identically hardware wise? Otherwise, surely just a firmware upgrade wouldn't be enough to improve the sound.

Flashing the firmware will more than likely give you a phone with "factory settings" .... that's been my experience with smartphones at least.

Hi. Is the phone branded with the T-mobile logo anywhere?

I thought you could already get this for £70 from Play.com - I just ordered one yesterday. It's on Vodafone but I think all Voda handsets are unlocked to other networks. It's got branding on it but you can remove that for 10 euros. From

There is no branding on the hardware. There is, however, T-Mobile branding in the software such as Web 'n' Walk and t-zones.

Mini Review

Well I've had my phone for a day now and I'm impressed. It's slightly bigger and heavier than my old phone (I upgraded from a T610 so I was due a new phone) but the build quality is excellent as you would expect from a Sony Ericsson phone.
I spent most of yesterday downloading ringtones and putting videos on my 2GB memory card. The phone comes with a 64MB card but I believe it can take up to 4GB.
The camera is excellent, it takes pictures and videos and the quailty is impressive for a camera phone.

There are a few bad points that I don't like about this phone but not enough to put me or anybody off buying one.
Once I put the sim card in I found it difficult to remove it again, you need very small fingers or finger nails to remove it.
Also the memory card is difficult to insert and remove. Again, if you don't have any finger nails then you're going to find it even more difficult!
But once the sim card and the memory card have been inserted you should never really need to remove it again anyway, at least until you next upgrade.

Correct, infact it's even possible to buy an empty replacement W800 case from somewhere like ebay & swap it over to complete the transformation. Personally I like the K750 case though so didn't bother with that.

Just got a SanDisk 4GB Memory Stick Pro Duo for my new K750 from fleabay for £23 + £4.99 delivery in anticipation of my phone arriving soon. Can't remember the sellers name, but if you search on the card type, there are plenty on there (the picture is of the card, adapter, with a bright yellow frame with 'In the UK, Next Day Delivery' or something).

I had almost bought a 1GB from Amazon for £16 when I found this. I know, I know, I don't really need 4GB, but it's a bargain init? :-D

And I shall be checking it really is 4GB when I get it (copy v large compressed file on, back off and check for corruption )

Depending on how big your file is, won't it have to be formatted NTFS? Which not all flash media seems to support.

Good luck.

Ok, the Vodafone one I got IS locked and branded. Bummer. You can unlock and debrand but depends on the version. The new ones seem to all be CID49 Brown - which are impossible to upgrade to W800i without losing autofocus or bluetooth or some crap.

Anyways, I've debranded for free using http://forums.se-nse.net/index.php?showtopic=7480

To unlock you need a Cruiser cable (£10 from ebay and other shops), and a £6 phone log from davinciteam.com - you can then unlock and sell the cable for the same price.

Long winded but hey, i'm a nerd, I live for this sh1t!

Good point, ok 2x2GB files, or 4x1GB files.
