The Sony Ericsson K800i mobile phone redefines the way we think about camera phones. To start with, it's branded "Cyber-shot" - the same name that graces Sony's digital camera range. It also shares many of its menu features with Sony cameras, along with a powerful xenon flash for night-time photography and an image stabiliser to reduce camera shake when you're taking pictures or recording videos.
Slide open the lens cover and the camera activates automatically. Now press the camera key and you'll barely believe what happens next. The 3.2 megapixel lens will take a total of nine photos: one at the exact time you press the key, four immediately afterwards and - get this! - four immediately BEFORE the camera key was pressed. Simply pick your favourites and delete the others.

But the Sony Ericsson K800i isn't just a remarkable camera. It's a 3G handset, offering video calling, web browsing, email and RSS internet news feeds. It's a music player as well, with an expandable memory if you need extra storage space for your favourite tunes. In addition you'll discover 3D games, an FM radio and a range of organiser features, plus Bluetooth and infrared connectivity. Leave your digital camera at home and take the Sony Ericsson K800i instead!

KSC7 code not working for me, do I need to open an account rather then pay on credit card?

Great phone. I have one on '3' and it works like a dream compared with the Nokias I always had before. Camera has been great. esp the funtion to take several photos over a split second and choose the best one. Never get caught with eyes closed again! The software is also so much better than Nokias in virtually every way. part. the text-inputting - saves loads of time texting. I paid £100 for mine a few months back on ebay and am very happy with it.

yes, the sound is good and your only limit is the size of the memory card.To be honest though, I don't listen to music on the go very often so I can't compare it with other products. But yes, seems good quality to me.

Is this unlocked, like I *think* Contract 02 phones are?

i.e. Could I plug my T-Mobile Contract SIM (with cheap Web 'n' Walk 3G) into this cheap PAYG 02 phone?
banned#8
I haven never had an O2 phone that was locked which is why I love them so much! (including this one)

nah only o2 phones from CPW can come unlocked, this is because they have sim free stock and they just mix it up with the different network sim packs.

These stock are mostly specific network ones so 99% would be locked. :)

Thanks matchstick! A sticky guide to buying phones might be useful, written by somebody who knows about this stuff (hint hint)

So in summary:

Contract 02 : Unlocked
PAYG 02: Locked to network
Carphone Warehouse 02 Contract & PAYG: Unlocked

How does this compare with this from Currys?

http://www.currys.co.uk/martprd/store/cur_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@1135265074.1187890508@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccegaddlklhmfmgcflgceggdhhmdgmi.0&page=Product&fm=9&sm=0&tm=0&sku=309390&category_oid=

I know the camera is better on this o2 one, but, with staff discount and quidco the one from Currys will only be about £68ish.

I don't particularly want to spend a lot on a new phone, but I'd like it to be half decent. I'd rather the network be Orange so I can simply swamp my sim into it, BUT, o2 isn't so bad, so I would be willing just to get a number transfer.

Any thoughts?

P.S. I don't care about music on it, that's what I have a Zen for! :)

Just had a quick gander on Orange's website, the phone from Cruddy's is £99 on there + I suppose you need to buy a top up credit, so £68ish from Currys isn't too bad, is it?

Well it all depends, the K800 is better in the sense that it is newer, better screen, better camera, newer OS etc but at the same time the W810i has the walkman player and headphones - though u said you wouldnt need it.

The currys one is a good deal for the price, but tbh it's on orange and havng had it - it is horribly branded with orange menus which is really ugly while o2 branding is minimal.

Personal preference really, since u r on the orange network u might be used to the dodgy menus lol. Price difference isnt that much, i d choose the K800i if i had to...

the k800i and w810i both have the same walkman V1 software but the k800i has a white colour scheme with no walkman branding unlike the w810i's which is walkman branded

Thanks guys.

Branding doesn't really bother me to be honest, and Orange is a niceish colour :) .

I think I probably will go for the Orange one. Getting it offline seems like a good idea, in store its £79.99 + they make you credit it with £10.

Well, there are plenty of people who can give you the correct information, but I find that HUKD tends to have an ungrateful lot, that don't even like to say thanks or click the rep icon.

Now I know you don't help people just so you can be thanked for it but I do find ignorance annoying, as common courtesy costs nothing. For people who are struggling to understand what I mean, here is an analogy. Your driving down a residential road with parked cars either side, with only enough room for one car in one direction.

You see another car coming the other way and pull in, to let him pass. You haven't done it because you want thanks, but how annoying is it when he drives straight past you without even a wave of the hand or a thumbs up? Yep kind of irritates you and you think, why did I bother?

Anyway, here is a cut and paste from another forum I posted yesterday evening, which gives you the rundown on O2 phones, with regards to locked and unlocked.

"It depends where you buy them from. It is one of the great urban legends that all O2 phones come unlocked. If you buy a contract phone from O2 themselves, it will be unlocked. I just bought an N95 yesterday from a friend who had just received his contract upgrade and that was unlocked.

If you bought a phone on an O2 contract from another shop etc. there is a good chance it could be locked. If you buy an O2 PAYG phone, the chances are, that it will be locked.

If you buy from CPW, you have a high chance of it being unlocked as they deal in Vanilla phones (sim free). However that is not guaranteed, as they might have to get stock from a different supplier.

If you go to somewhere like Argos, you will find that the majority of O2 PAYG phones are network locked."

Nice post roadhog:thumbsup: I can concur with your post, all PAYG O2 phones I have had have been locked, all O2 contract phones I have had, have been O2 branded (minimal) but unlocked. My Virgin sim works in a TMobile locked handset due to the network piggybacking but my mates Virgin PAYG phone strangely wont work with a TMOB card in it  hmm. Good of you to take the time to post as you did.:)

Can I ask a bit of advice, which is better the K800i or N73.

The reason I'm asking is that I own an N73 and will pass it down if I buy another phone. But with the K800i being a year old it puts me off. Any advantages it has over Nokia?

On the FREEMANS site the price for the 'phone is the same as on the Kaleidoscope site: £99 but without a postage charge.

You could apply one of the % discount codes shown on my last post (and go through quidco for cashback too). The code is added on the Freemans shopping bag(basket) page.

If you haven't had an account with a catalogue like Freemans before it can be a bit confusing because:
Please note that some discount codes/offer codes applied to your order including 'Buy One Get One Free' and '3 for 2' offers will NOT be shown in your bag above, but will be deducted before payment is taken and shown on your statement. Prices shown for products from our Discover range already include your discount. Discounts do not apply to electrical products, for more information click here.

The discount doesn't show up until the very end when the final confirmation comes up and you can actually place the order, its a very good deal for an excellent phone. Just gotta wait until it arrives now :whistling:
