No :)

Cashback to be claimed @ months 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12. You need to provide a original bill each time to proove that you been connected. For e.g. fot the first claim @ month 4 (after 120 days of connection date), you should send a bill arriving past the 120 days. Applying the dates (for e.g.) in Comment-2, 120 days will be over by 15/07/2007 and proof of the pudding will be in bill dated 18/07/2007. This bill (original) must be submitted within 30 days (before 17/08/2007).

Lots of companies do "free" phones. They can be very good value, as long as you bear in mind:

* Some places will also sign you up to insurance etc... - you can cancel this at no cost
* If you miss a claim, you lose your money, and in many cases your right to claim any more cashback vouchers.
* Technically you only start to get your money back after 4-6 months, and it takes 12 months for you to get it all back. So you need to have some spare cash to get the "free" offer, and accept it won't earn interest etc...
* If the company goes bankrupt, you've lost your money. Check reputation first.

I am glad EDI mentions "Very reliable cashback from CoolNewMobile which I can personally vouch" - I would of said similar sentiments about another outfit, mobileshop.com, who seemed the best of the bunch 18 months ago. Now people have been waiting for payments for over 90 days from them...
(see http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=433540)

Overall, be vigalent, and accept there are levels of risk in signing up. Overall you will end up with a cheap phone, balancing all odds. I maanaged to get a £6-7/month deal with 3 mobile after cashback and quidco which I am much happier and secure with :)

ok, i see how this works for us/me (i think) but how does it work for them? Seems like there giving away a free phone and giving you back all the money you ever spend on your contract. So where do they get money from? I know its legit because ive read numerous posts on it but i dont see how they can afford to give away the phones for free and to pay for your contract (well, pay you back anyway, either way they dont get any money as far as i can see) ;-)

Dont think anyone has an answer for this yet, which is probably the secret of the trade. However, I can vouch for the CNM deal because:

1. I received £35 Quidco cashback
2. £360 cashback in 5 stages (5/5 successful claims)
3. Free handset

CNM is taking about 50-60 days to pay but thats is an average time in line with other sites such as Chatterbox. Welcome to HUKD loydmedley

It does seem very strange all this free phone and free 12 months contract but I have so far had cashbacks from everyone I have dealt with, carphone, e2save, onestop and mobileshop, however mobileshop are now taking so long and also the Argos gift voucher they promised I would receive within 30 days has still not arrived after 5 weeks – I advise everyone to be very vigilant of this retailier, they were nicknamed the cashback King a year ago but have since gone downhill.

Is this really a secret?

I thought it was quite in the open that the networks were paying huge commission to the retailers like carphone, onestop which they then passed on to us.

Does it mean all the line rental you pay is given back to the retailers? I doubt.. Also these sites are happy to pay £30-£50 Quidco too :)

So if you think the money’s not coming from the networks (O2, Orange 3 etc) who are obviously the big cats in this game, where is the money coming from?

Mobileshop have themselves said they are delaying cashback payments to the customers because the networks are not paying on time the commissions due to them.

I’m sure the quidco payment must be coming out of the chuck they receive from the networks as the retailers pay out different amount depending on which networks contract you take out.

Networks are paying huge sums on the basis that the customers will stay with them after the 12 month period which many people do - Not everyone is as shrewd as HotUk’ers

Thanks

erm dunno if this helps, but i did a chequeback offer with e2save, i got decent mobile and lost £80, but this was the fault of my own sending a chequeback too late, other than that it was ok...but be very sure not to take out an offer towards the end of the month, as it really complicates things - try to get one on after the 10th and before the 20th of the month to be safe - just my honest advice

I've lost a URL which explained how this worked but in a nutshell the retailers are given a commission (usually £100's) to attract new network customers and they pass along a large chunk (/all) of it in the form of a cashback. They chose to stagger the payments to improve their cashflows.

This is the reply I got from mobileshop when I chased them for my cashback…….

Hi there,
Due to the network changing the terms and conditions as to when they pay the commission to us to enable us to pay the cashback we have had to change the payment date slightly to the 23rd. On that date it will be put back in to your bank account. We do apologise for the delays but we can not prevent the network changing the terms and conditions.

Thanks for the info guys :) No wonder networks play all gimmicks to retain customers.

Many networks are changing their strategy now, rather than paying huge commisions to the middleman, i.e. carphone, mobileshop etc what they tend to do is when someone tries and cancels after the 12 months they offer incentives to keep them on, for example they will offer 12 months free with inclusive minutes, this is usually done by crediting the customers account upfront by 12 months line rental and then deducting monthly – Many customers will agree to this as it will save them looking for another 12 months free deal and now with the ever increasing cashback doubts
