is there a prerequisite? i.e. spend £50 in store to get it at this price or buy a £10 top up?

This phone is £79 at Argos dwn from £99.99 so I thought it was a good deal!

I think it depends on what you need most... if you listen a lot of music, I think w810i will suits you better; but as to taking photos, k800i is very good (my current handset).

But easily unlocked.

I've had this phone for the past few months, really good for music and very easy to use as a regular phone.

For a good pair of headphones for this phone try the link below.

The phone does come with a set of custom headphones but the ones in the link are better :)

probably not easily at all
If these were made in the past couple of months you will have to take it to a shop to get done, probably around a tenner

This is a good phone. I had it when it first came out and is a great walkman phone. camera is ok too, easy to use. A good all round phone and well worth £59.

Sorry for being dense... its my first post, but i've been lurking for ages..

Problem is, I can't find the W810i on Asda's site? Looking under mobile phones, T-mobile or Sony I can't seem to find it. Can anybody direct me?

Appreciate it.

I'm with Virgin. Can I use this or do I need to get it unlocked?

Both phones are practically identical in terms of music playback, the only real difference is the Walkman branding. In fact the sound quality (through a pair of £30+ headphones) was slightly better on the K800i. The screen is also larger on the K800i but that aside the music playback capabilities near identical, save a the small software changes.

The K800i camera is better and produces some brilliant pics but so does the much less bulkier w810, the K800i has a Qvga screen and is better than the smaller w810i.

I've owned both for a considerable amount of time and I love them both but on a daily basis I use the w810i because the size is perfect and it has Quad band (K800i is tri) - but that only matters if you visit rural USA.

W810i is a great phone and £59 is about a tenner or so cheaper than the Virgin deal at the minute.

Phone Virgin you will most probably get a reduction on the cost of a new handset (if they dont have it in reconditioned stock).

But t-mobile do not work in virgin phones.

Ziffius .....sounds like you know your stuff ......do you know if it's possible to unlock a K810i in T-Mobile ?? ;-)
#27
The newer ones are difficult to unlock and mess about with, unless the tools mentioned above have been updated. There's also a cool flash menu add on you can install if you can bypass the phone's security.
#28
I agree the joystick situation is better on the W810i as it does away with the stick altogether but it's worth noting that many many poeple never have an issue with the K800i (that includes me) and a lot of the problems can be put down to user misuse.

i also need to unlock my k810i on tmobile

the SEtool team have just released a free patch unlock for cid52 SE phones (eg k810, w580, w850 etc), but you need to have the SEtool3 box version which costs about £100 to buy

Ziffius Thanks for all the info on how to unlock/debrand this phone but the link to the patches http://www.fileden.com/files/2007/5/...%20Patches.zip is down. Do you have any other links for it?

IF YOUR PHONE IS CID50, THESE PATCHES WILL NOT WORK.

if you flash a cid49 patch to a CID50 phone, you will end up with a dead phone

For what its worth I de-branded my K800i today using the following site. Debranding removes the network operator specific firmware and or settings and replacing them with the SonyEricsson Generic software. Debranding is not the same as Unlocking your phone.
Costs 7Euros or about £5, but worked perfectly.

I have just debranded my t-mobile w810 and now it is SonyEricsson generic software. All the t-mobile icons/software have been removed:) . All i need to do now is find a patch to unlock it. This can all be done for free if you follow ziffius tutorial.
