Can be unlocked

Do you have any idea how much it would cost to unlock?
#5
I think it is £20 ebay, but that is if it has the old firmware(CID49), if it is the new CID51 firmware it cannot be unlocked. It can also be debranded for just £7

these cannot be unlocked via a shop because sony ericsson have closed the loophole in their server

the only way to unlock it is by phoning up vodafone and paying £20 for a code which they send after a fortnight

I really like this, but I'm suspicious that there is no mention of the 1GB memory stick that is supposed to come with these phones on their website.
#10
GREETINGS it will cost £20 from Vodaphone to open the phone but you will have the money credited to your sim.

So you'll have £20 credit, a phone open to all networks and a valid warranty. :w00t:
#11
Oh I forgot to say i bought a k800i from play £149.99 but came with no memory card, so maybe the same for w850i
#12
1gb card is about £15 or so now.
#13
k800i doesnt come with a card anyways on any network or generic

but the w850i does come with 1gb card and this will as well

I've just re-signed for an 18 month contract and got this phone free yesterday...then this offer comes along today...oh well I'm sure I'll use 100 mins a month

Guys the phone is great but if you have large fingers then you will find the buttons on the main navigation panel a pain to use...(the 'fat handed t&*t' sketch from Big Train springs to mind!)

The Walkman side is excellent and the camera isn't bad either...with the possible option of using a 4GB MS Pro Duo then this is a great little slide music phone. My 1GB stick was inside the phone already - you should get this if its a boxed retail product.

I've had a Samsung D500 for 24 months and this Sony Ericsson has way better software and features (Outlook sync is a breeze) I did consider a Samsung D900 (looks awesome) but it offered nothing really new for me and its limited to 2GB microSD. Plus some peeps have had the screens crack through no fault of their own

Voted hot of course :)

HI all,

I bought this very phone from Play a few weeks ago, yes the only way to unlock it to all networks is by ringing Vodafone and paying £20, but unlike a reply above they actually only credit you with £2.50 call time, not the full £20!!

It DOES include the 1GB pro stick duo memory card.

I also fully recommend you debrand the Vodafone software when you get it too, seriously, it will feel like a different phone, there are games that will appear that Voda removed, extra features will also appear and it will work faster too. This can all be done for £7. Well worth it.

All in all i think this is one of the best phones on the market, and although the camera is only 2megapixel, its capable of a great picture.

Hope this helps anyone thinking of buying it, great value. Im well impressed

Just to add, Vodafone unlocked the phone the very same day i rang them. They give you a simple code to tap in, and there you are, open to all networks!

Such a shame this is only for the white one. Anyone know of a similarly great price for the black version by any chance..??

What's wrong with credit card:)
#28
I don't have a UK credit card, only Canadian - which if I used, would require me to transfer funds to the related debit account. So if it does expire before Friday, I will be forced to do so!

I can give Play.com a ring when I get home I guess, couldn't find an email contact on their site.

But the Vodafone logo can be peeled off with very little effort, leaving the bottom of the phone plain white. Hope this helps

Having spoken to a very helpful chap named Peter at Play, I have been told just to place the order now, even without sufficient funding, and this will ensure I can purchase the phone at the price of £149.99.

I am to call Play back on Friday, and re-confirm the order when I have funds. I have also been told that I will not incur any bank charges as a result of attempting to make a purchase with insufficient funds.

All systems go!

Definitely going to go with the debranding mentioned earlier in this thread too - seems easy enough, and offers plenty of benifits.

Still available... :)

Are you sure that you don't get credited with the £20 credit? Can anyone back this up

Thanks

If you top up £20.00 by Credit card you get an extra 10%, so £22.00 total. They will then take £20.00 to unlock the phone, leaving you with £2.00 plus whatever you had on the sim card originally.
