I have this phone. Its the Best Sony Ericsson ive owned, and ive had alot!

The Camera isnt great for 3.2MP mind, no focus and its pretty rubbish in the dark. NO LED light. But in daylight its fine.

It has very good battery life for 3G use. I use it as a modem on 3UK with my laptop and it lasts for hours of net browsing and it doesnt get HOT like a lot of my other SE 3G phones.

All Sony Ericsson's are very high SAR ratings,

SAR, Specific Absorption Rate, a measurement of the amount of radiation that is absorbed into a head while using a cellular phone, the higher the SAR-value the more radiation that is absorbed into the head. The lower the better. W/kg over 10 g tissue. Max value in EU, Japan etc is 2 W/kg. Below 0.5 is low, 0.5-1.0 is in the middle and over 1 is high.

W890i is 1.38W/kg
W880i is 1.45W/kg
W610i is 1.31W/kg
K810i is 1.31W/kg

My Samsung D500 is only 0.31W/kg, so all the above phones are more than 4 times higher, all most all the other phones available are between 0.31W/kg & 0.92W/kg, I am quite disapointed with all networks now as they don't mention this information any more in their brochures, I asked a sales rep, and he had never heard of SAR ratings, people are to concerned with how a phone looks instead of what damage is this phone doing to them.

Where is the official word that they will do a free unlock? Companies normally charge for this, or only if you have already spent a certain amount on buying credit.

I think Tesco for example, require a £40 spend before they will unlock your PAYG phone. Or something along those lines.

why so cold?

maybe because according to reports on this forum vodafone charge £19.99 to unlock its pay and go handsets, its only FREE if contract phone

has also been posted before

Top phone, really slimline. Has all the usual extra's and is good for downloading e-mail's, browsing the net etc..

As already stated the camera is a bit of a let down but still a great phone!

You can also use one of those sim things which were on here from Deal Extreme where the slender plastic slides underneath. This unlocks the phone to any network without invalidating the warranty. I have the phone and am using this method to unlock it and it works a treat.

How does it compare with the mighty k750i?

I've used a lot of phones (most of the Nokias, the Viewty, the iPhone, the k850i) and nothing comes close to my k750i.

Even so, people shouldn't vote a MOBILE PHONE deal cold because its not on their preferred network - it's not as if this phone NEEDS to be unlocked before it can be used.

K750 is camera priority range...you need a k810 or k850 to get better pictures. The W's are walkman or music priority and don't use the same camera module. It's 3 mp will be worse than your k750 2 mp camera.

Obviously there a plenty of other factors you have to consider too...the k750 was a brill phone. I have a 810 and although it's beter performance it just doesn't feel like the comfy old worn slipper the k750 was. SE phones though are well sorted and very intuitive in use but first few days after changing from other brand are challenging. Just seems to me no phone is perfect. Always something missing or badly designed...great camera, poor keypad, great design, poor software etc.

I don't get it, how is this phone better than K750i, to me all latest SE are the same, and K750i even's got better camera ... why people pay £100-£200 for such a basic phone ?
#29
Hope this is still around come payday next monday :D Was gonna go for the c902 but this will do!
#30
I've had this phone since it first came out and I like it a lot :)

OK, so it's a "style" phone first a foremost and because it's sleek it has a couple of compromises like poor quality, low volume speaker (even for a phone) and not-so-long battery life but if you're the type willing to make little sacrifices like this for an attractive phone then this is one for you.

Style. The K series phones are bulky and, in my opinion, quite ugly.

It's not a case of "better" or "worse"; the reason SE offer so many different phones it to satisfy all types of consumers.

I have a DSLR and a very good Sony compact as a back up camera so why on earth I'd want a camera phone which will never compare beats me. I'd rather carry about the extra weight of a compact than compromise. Even the best camera phones are still awful compared to even a decent compact. A good MP3 player in a phone on the other hand is a must for me as I sold my bulky Creative Zen when I got a car and stopped using public transport every day.

Why some people don't understand the fact that different people have differing needs beats me.

Impressive comments! Overall, every one could has his/her own needs. And that's why those mobile phone producers have so many different product lines to cater all consumers favour.:)

Anyway, heat and rep are also added as well

not sure why its a bargain is it cause its got more gadgets on it? the camera is only 3.2 my samsung is 5mp and it cost half this, and a good point about the SAR that was mentioned that no one ever thinks to read about, its proven fact that mobile phones cause neurological problems if used a fair bit so the SAR plays a big part for me, remember just cause it sparkles doesnt mean its gold....

Can anyone tell me what this is like in comparison to the w880i? Is it of similar slimness?? Its just I love my w880i but am seriously tempted to upgrade. What do any of you guys think??

Thanks.
#36
compared to the w880i its much more improved,

the build quality is better, camera is better, the internet explorer is improved too.

Also with 2gb memory, enjoy high quality videos/mp3s etc!

happy days!

its a shame vodafone ruin all their phones with rubbish firmware otherwise i would have brought one
#39
You can debrand it online easily for about £10. Then you have the generic SE firmware.
