A decent flip-type phone with 8Gb memory built-in and 3.2 megapixel camera (see http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/products/mobilephones/overview/w980 for more features). Provided you claim according to the T & C, the phone will work out at £100 over the period, i.e. £8.33 per month. Also at the moment Quidco pays £100 for a Vodafone contract phone from Phones4u, so potentially the deal can cost you "0". I suppose there will be costs for posting the 4 redemption certificates, so potential cost of c. £12.

Excellent deal, I donot understand why people are voting it cold. I never had any problems with quidco cashback with phones4u neither on PAYG or contract phones.

Super deal! The phone is worth £150 if it's locked to Vodafone at cex.co.uk.

I assume you could earn more if using fleabay?
With 100 quid quidco offer, I am really tempted!

I had a brief look but there's not much shifting on there by the looks.

You'd get £175 trade in if the phone is unlocked. Does anyone know if these are locked or not?
#8
I read in the financial times that phones4u were looking at a refinancing model - urgently it said......
#9
Is there anyway I could get 2 of these with this deal, one for me and one for the wife?

My Quidco tracked at £30, not £100 - anybody else had this?

don't sweat it, I put in a missing claim for the extra 70 squid, as I dont think it tracks whether it's specifically vodafone, just a contract sale...reckon it'll come good

Mine tracked £30 too - but, as rugman says, we'll just have to claim for the extra £70.

I got my phone delivered this morning. Well chuffed with it, looks and feels great for a flip phone. OK, it is Vodafone branded, but UNLOCKED - e.g. it accepted SIMs from Orange and Virgin no problem.

Mine came UNLOCKED - worked with Orange and Virgin SIMs no problem.

I was really tempted by this but then I checked out some reviews that say the battery life is rubbish and a lot of people report problems with it freezing.

Where did you read these? I saw reviews of this kind for the w890i, also available from phones4u with lots more minutes and texts, hence I went for the w980. BTW, a O2 PAYG SIM also works in the w980i.

Many thanks to the OP. I've just ordered two - one for me and one for my wife. I've used different quidco accounts and different bank details so hopefully we'll get both £100 cashbacks. Even if we only get one it'll still be worth it!

my quidco tracked at 30. put in a missing enquiry. Quidco would try to consult the p4u for a decision which might take upto 2 months resolve. Strange and be wary if someone solely depends on the quidco cashback.

well, i still got my 14 days cooling off period, if i smell something fishy about quidco i would rather cancel my order. Thanks for posting.

I've just done the same on both quidco accounts. Ps - the email from phones4u says you've got only 7 days to cancel from receipt - I suppose the quidco enquirey will take much longer than this.

I have not got confirmation as yet, regarding my order. Fingers crossed.
If I get a response, I hope i will, from quidco in couple of days, I will be more than pleased. But thanks for sharing the info regarding the return times.

regards,
Bally

Tracked at £30 enquire declined. how can they get away with this!.

My quidco account enquiry has also been declined, it says-

"Hi xxxxxxx, thanks for your enquiry. Your transaction should update when its status changes from 'tracked' to 'validated', so I will mark your enquiry as processed at this time. If the transaction does not update to the amount of cashback that you were expecting when it is validated, please raise an Incorrect enquiry at www.quidco.com/new-enquiry/ ; Kind regards, Stuart"

So I think what this means is that it is too early to raise this as an enquiry until the transaction is validated. Hopefully when it is validated it will be at £100, but if not I'll re-raise the enquiry then. It'll probably be too late to cancel the phones by then though if they don't pay out the full £100. It's still a good deal though even if you end up paying £70 for the whole year. I might sell the handset on ebay when I get it a buy an older model - I'm not bothered about all the bells and whistles as long as you can make calls and text on it!!

This is my current thinking also, but I've taken a screen shot of the Quidco/Vodafone page just in case!

Has anyone got the screenshots for this? Cheers.

Sorry - I've not. I got paid £100 on 20th Dec into my quidco account though if that's any help. Might be worth PM'ing TYKE.

Well, here is a quick update, nearly one year after I took the plunge.
I had to return the original phone 'cause it was taking an eternity to start up. Phones4u replaced it with a LG KC910 Renoir - a lot higher spec phone.
Received OK the £100 cashback from Vodafone/Quidco. Sent (special delivery) 1st claim to Phones4U on the supplied form, received the £50 cashback no problem. Sent second claim, received a letter that there was a problem and to contact customer services. Did so, they could not tell me what the problem was. However, this had put a spanner in the works so the system could not produce any more paper-based claim forms. Customer services advised that to submit the claim by e-mail. i did as told, they acknowledged receipt, and sent me the cheque. Third claim was also by e-mail, received cheque within a fortnight. So, so far I have received £100 + 3x£50=£250 cashback, exactly as advertised at the time. Last claim is due next month, again by e-mail. I have to say that the Phones4U guys that I spoke to at the time of the cock-up with my second claim were really helpful/professional. And they have been replying promptly to my e-mails since then.

My final update:

Just got the cheque for my last claim , again submitted by e-mail so no additional expense. This means that, having received my cashback from Phones4U, i.e. 4x£50=£200, plus the cashback from Vodafone, i.e., £100, the phone has costed me ZILCH! (bar the cost of the special delivery for the first two claims, under £10). I have to say that Phones4u's customer service has been brilliant throughout, will defo buy from them again.

Hi Kungpo, I'm just about to submit my final claims. How did you do it by email? What address did you send it to etc? Did you have to arrange this or is this facility available for anyone? Cheers.
