I'm running android 2.3 on my mini pro, pretty sure there's a 2.3 port for the mini too.

Nice Phone! Have some Heat!
#5
+£10 top up so will be £110, but heat non the less. Seems a great price.
So the question is:
This or the San Fran?

Unfortunately the only thing the xperia play has going for it is the slide out PSP pad.

When the new iPod Touch line is announced I can guarentee that you wont see anyone with one, as the xperia play's already outdated hardware will become completely void from that point onwards.

I have, and use, both
The X10 mini is my main phone - great camera and small enough to slip into my pocket wherever I am going.
The SanFran is better for games and internet use simply because of the screen size.

You will be happy with either - if I had to choose one, not sure which I would go for.

Utter tripe! The iPhone 4 (1GHz single core CPU) is already dated and completely "void" then?

I have the X10 mini, and as my first android phone im disappointed. Screen size is too small to be of much use for apps or browsing, and as a phone the sound quality and reception are not great. The only thing it has going for it, is that it's a small phone for slipping it into your pocket.

how did you get that?
#15
This phone is kinda a girls phone, tried using this phone the other day and its a real pain to surf the web on it. Main reason being the screen is so small, the camera is good though!
#16
My daughter has this , she loves it , small compact and can use in class , !! naughty naughty !!
#17
Which has the better battery life? This or the San Fran?
#18
Hmm about to pick up an Orange SF today from Argos, but the crap camera is putting me off. This could be a good alternative.
#19
SE has better battery life by far , SF was the daughters phone before she bought the SE , SF froze regulary, battery lasted a day if that ,

She said the SE is a BIG improvement, and build quality is far better also !!

Thats her opinion only , !!!

edited to add ,

Camera on the SF in the right conditions is not too bad , ie day light , forget indoors or dusk/evenings though The camera on the SE is far superior

Here mate, XDA Developers forum
Looks tricky but it's pretty easy if you read the instructions

Link

Cyanogenmod 7 is a custom ROM of 2.3. Flash isn't supported though due to the processor in the x10 mini, flash only runs on phones with an ARM7 or above processor, x10 mini is ARM6. I got a huge boost in battery life, and the phone runs much quicker, apps2sd works too. 'Tis brilliant!

I have the x10 mini pro which costs an extra £30 from carphone warehouse. Ony difference is a slide out keyboard which makes it really easy to text / email on. It's small screen is not great for games but the rest of the phone is brill and is very solid.

I think I would go for this as my wife just phones, texts (not many) and takes pictures (too many). If the camera is good then I will just buy it for her. She doesn't need anything fancy like the SF, etc.

Also, it is within my budget.

I didn't either, there is a tool which flashes the correct build, I only have the link for the mini pro, but if you ask on XDA I'm sure someone can give you the link :) It's like having a different phone with 2.3, definitely worth it! Good luck!

Texting is terrible on this phone. Small screen and short battery life could drive her nuts.

That's not this phone, Sony aren't updating it past 2.1

The screen resolution is 240 x 320 pixels, 2.55 inches! When most smartphones killer app is Internet browsing, this is seriously limiting. I'd pay no more than £50, given the current competition.

Texting is fine. I had the X10 Mini Pro and found the on-screen T9 pad to be so responsive that I didn't bother with the keyboard.

Agreed on the rest though.

Price should include £10 top on title, unless upgrading instore
#38
the x10 mini pro is £120 @ O2 , you don't need to buy top-up if u have PAYG sim, there was lots of 20% vouchers in the shop if you can get one, i had one for £90 (with 25% discount from the manager)
the phone was 1.6 but updated to 2.1 when connected to the computer, also said it will get 2.3 update end of Q2 or early Q3

Unfortunately SE said they won't be updating past 2.1... There is an unofficial ROM of 2.2 and 2.3 at XDA devs though..
