Don't carphone warehouse phones come unlocked as standard? Also, any thoughts on whether I should get this. I'm currently on contract and can't find any other good contract deals or upgrade deals.

Cheers,
Pav

All cpw phones come unlocked normally there have been one or two in the past that were locked however this is deffinatly not the norm. Secondly this is an ok phone. Good camera and loads of features for the money since its android. Down side is the on screen keyboard is not that great because of the size of screen so the mini pro is better by a fair bit for daily usage since it has the physical keyboard. Battery life is fairly dire since it has a I believe a 900mah one. Also because the screen resolution is lower than most android handsets the market doesn't show all apps as they are not compatible with the low res this can usually be fixed by a quick email to the dev or there are a few work arounds. Lastly the mod scene is not great for this phone yet but I believe this is a goof little phone for the price but you might be better with either the mini pro or San fransisco. Goof price though so not voted either way

First of all I must admit i'm a bit of a phoneholic (mostly android phones and lots of them)
I have had this now for a few hours.
it was def unlocked.(its now on t-mobile)
I really like this phone in general but I had to change to keyboard to smart keyboard from the android market. stock keyboard is a pain.
it has the fastest GPS fix i have ever seen in a phone at 7 seconds from cold start.
And call quality is very good as is the build quality.
I don't think you can really compare it to the ZTE blade simply because of its size.
The battery life of all of my smart phones is poor, all need a charge ever day.(if being used as they should)
i am going to gain root access to this phone so i can have a play with the cpu speeds and see how long the battery can last for.

A lot cheaper am guessing is compared to how much it cost previously rather than against the X10 mini.

Its the keyboard on the mini pro which is the biggest difference but aside from that the android software is the same across both. With the small screen of both these handset, do factor in that some of the apps may not be of good resolution and refuse to run.

Also you may want to call up before going out as there may not be a large supply as the deal has been running for a few days now. There wasn't many today when I closed up shop.

Someone I know has one of these and although it's nice, neat and compact, for me the screen's just not big enough for a decent touch screen and display and it's worth bearing in mind that a lot of Google apps won't work on it due to its cut down size.

Whats it like compared to orange SF??
#20
i actually have this phone and love it,as for the doubters who always chirp on about battery life i can honestly say i get 2 and a half days from mine and thats browsing texting and calling.wife has the mini pro which is exactly the same phone but with the slidy out keyboard and this too is a brilliant little phone.
#21
I have had the Pro for 3 months, awesome phone, although I have barely used the slide out keyboard (heavy texter) - the touch screen input is always spot on. Considering getting this for the (slight) reduction in size.
#22
I'm considering buying either one of these, an X8 or an San Francisco. Not much use expected, some texts, e-mail handy and Facebook. Any comments gratefully received.

The small screen would be the main deal breaker.

I use an SF myself and having seen the SE i'd rather have an SF and all really for the screen size. If you've got a decent sized touch screen you don't need a separate keyboard and the bigger screen makes all of the media stuff much better too.

Thanks. Forgot to mention that I'm looking for something neat and compact. Not sure how much difference that there would be betweeen the two. Would really be a "backup" to a PC and iPod Touch.

It depends on your personal choice really. The OSF has easily the best specs, is fully customisable but has a cheaper build quality than the x8/x10. What swung it for me was the size differences. The OSF was too big to carry around in my pocket, the X10 was a little too small for browsing so I went for the X8. Ignore a lot of the bad reviews for the X8, they are based on when it only had android 1.6

hot from me. just because i had one of these little powerhouses for 6 months and best phone ive had. downside: small screen.

hence i got rid and got htc mozart 7

Great little phone, small screen is ok but the onscreen keyboard is hard work. The Pro version with the pull out keyboard makes life a lot easier. Also plug into a PC and make sure you update from Android 1.6 to 2.1 !

£129 for Pro version.

SE won't be bringing out 2.2 for the X10 though they have confirmed.

The thing with android base phones is you can have an ok phone then after an update have an ace phone.
On value OSF/zte blade sets the standard.
The X10/X8 and pro version is an example of japanese miniaturization at its best.
Its a Bonsai phone !

I have the x10 mini ( contract on 3 ( £20, 900 mins ect..ect..)) Best phone I have owned. Its super fast but does need charging daily even with only light use, really like the timescape feature. Would love to know how to change to the smart keyboard though.
HOT from me.
