Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc 12 month contract (talk mobile) £270 over the contract after cashback (and £240 after quidco) at e2save - HotUKDeals

I was close to ordering the HTC Desire S (Arc was previously over £100 more over the contract) however noticed that the Xperia Arc has dropped in price this week, now matching the Desire S deal

Add the increased quidco from e2save (£50 as apposed to £30 previously) and it works out as £220 over 12 months on talkmobile (edit: now quidco is back down to £30)

400mins, 1000 txts and 1gb internet = £30 pm (£360 over contract). Less £90 cashback from e2save and £30 from quidco = £240 (£20 per month)

Cheaper than buying on PAYG and cheaper than buying off a certain auction website

Cashback to be claimed in 3 £30 tranches at month 6, 8 and 10

Even if you're too lazy to claim the £90 e2save cashback, £330 over the contract (provided you're not too lazy to use quidco) is still a very good deal

From my research this handset appears to be similar to the Desire S, but better looking and with a far superior camera, so if anyone is torn between the two, I can recommend the Arc based on these additional selling points

Few things to note - talkmobile piggyback on vodaphone and if you want to keep your number then you must provide your PAC code when you actually place the order

I prefer the HTC sense software....Sony's is, comparatively, rubbish. Also, the HTC desire s feels more sturdy and solid. The arc is a bit plasticy, in my opinion....

Pretty hot! I ordered one... I figure this will be a decent upgrade from my Samsung Galaxy Apollo, nice screen, apparently a good camera - and for £220 including a year's phone bills, I figure at worst I can sell the thing for £150 in a year's time...

Much more appealing than the Desire S, in my opinion. But after a year using a 3.2" lo-res screen on my Samsung, I crave the huge 4.2" on this one!

hot ... bargain at this price

arghh I cant believe this didn't make it to the front page :s. Thought it was a deal many out there would have gone for had it have got the right publicity. I wont expire this at midnight (due the the change in quidco from £50 down to £30) but will change the title and text. £240 after the reduced quidco will still be a good price

Sexy phone. Nice price.

xperia play ftw!

Awesome price! Best looking phone on the market I say.
#13
Does the phone come locked?

I ordered this deal the other day but canceled after reading about problems with the housing cracking, that and the poor internal memory(320mb) made me think twice. Shame as it looks like a decent phone otherwise.:(

I'd buy this in a heartbeat, however, i'm not going to for two reasons. One- No matter how good this phone is, I seem to be the only one who doesn't get along with Android. I think it's too cluttered and prefer the clean WM7. Two- i've owned many Sony smartphones and I have to say Sony don't roll out the updates like HTC do- the vivaz and x10 are prime examples.
banned#16
phone is good for the first 6 weeks, after that for me atleast it started freezing annoyingly especially when loading long conversations

it is a good phone though, maybe rooted would be better though :)

Great deal - I saw this earlier in the day and was going to post it myself. I have ordered one now. Now to sort out rooting and some custom ROMs.

Android is crap, but I'm using as it has all the apps I need and WP7 doesn't have them yet. I have a Samsung Galaxy S lagfest, no manner of modding can make it run smoothly. I had a San Francisco before that and it was utter crap. I only have the Samsung as it cost me £100.

Oooh, unlucky! Your stuck with a Sony ericsson for 12 months. I feel for you dude!

Have had nothing but problems with my X10 - this is actually the fourth one and it dials the wrong numbers, freezes, has an awful camera, switches the proximity sensor on and off at random and alters its settings when it feels like it.
Can't see me buying Sony Ericsson again for a while!

The Arc S is due out any day now. maybe they're clearing stock in anticipation. Still a very good deal.

You have a crap phone and complain about Android? Get a phone which is worth more than a plop and you will see

I got an Arc about three months ago (the first time in years that I've gone for something other than a Nokia smartphone as they seem to have lost the plot), and I really like it - the screen is fantastic, it does have relatively little internal memory but came with a decent sized sd card, and the battery life is far better than I was expecting too (as I do browse the web a lot with it). Get one now!

If you knew about Android phones then you wouldn't have made that comment. The Samsung Galaxy S was one of the highest rated Android phones before the SGS II came out. My point is that even on a high end phone Android has been crap for me. I don't want to go to the expense of a SGS II to make it run better, plus Android as an OS is a total shambles.

does anyone know where you can get this phone cheaply Sim free off contract?

I checked a number of review website before buying and this handset topped the Desire S (most comparable competitor in my opinion) in all of them and also topped the iphone 4 in some that drew comparison. Also it got 4 to 5 stars in all the reviews (see techrader, cnet, pcpro, pocket-lint, knowyourmobile. trustedreviews...just to name a few who, on the whole sang it's praises).

I don't understand why it being Sony-Ericsson is such a bad thing?!? None of the review websites listed above share your thoughts.....

Well as a Xperia X10 owner that suffered from the overheating bug I know why. My parting comment on the XDA forum was "I will NEVER buy another SE phone again". Any way 4 months later here I am waiting for E 2 Save to process my order like a kid waiting for christmas. Looking at the Arc S it seems very little difference to the Arc. And iff you unlock the bootloader there is a custom kernel that will enable OC to 1900mHz, so happy days.

Just looked on Ebay and I should get at least £90 for my Amoled Orange San Francisco (not bad after 11 months of use as it only cost £100 new). That means I will get a new phone and 1 years calls/texts/data for a net cost of £150. It would have cost £120 to keep the OSF and run a Giff Gaff sim so this is a no brainer for me.

How easy is this phone to unlock and can it be done for free?

Sony Xperia - never again. As merridge642 above points out - Sony's software is rubbish. The camera/video quality is also one of the worst. Will never buy a Sony phone again.

Sony have learned a hard lesson here and their updats have been spot on with the Arc on 2.34 as well as several phone updates. Coming soon is panoramic picture taking etc. I have been well impressed so far.

good phone but its a shame its not dual core.
i think sony have also made a big mistake with the newer sony xperia arc s which is still not dual core when most of its competitors will be, eg. samsung galaxy s2, htc sensation , lg optimus 2x

gosh there's some rubbish comments in this thread.. the arc is a great piece of kit, mines rooted with the new panoramic software, the third firmware update since i bought mine in june.

camera is awesome, it's a great phone and mine in silver looks amazing .. people always end up taking it off me to see what it is.

Also - the Arc S is the same hardware running at a higher clockspeed.. you can flash similar firmware to the Arc (as Sony Ericsson let you unlock the bootloader too so you can flash anything custom you like..) and it will clock at anything up to 1.8ghz.

I don't want two cores in my pocket burning through batteries, bought 2 genuine batteries for £8 which means I've got 5 days without charging & I reckon I've got the best phone overall out there. I paid a lot more than this deal too.

Kind of agree with N8 judgement but the Symbian 'Anna' has done a lot for those that took the plunge. Nokia phones have always been hardware heavy, never bothered me tho as I've always preferred grunt over frilly looks. Def time for an upgrade tho.
