And remember, if your compulsory top-up doesn't arrive on the bundled sim, make sure you email them via the website to let them know after 30 days and they will usually send you a cheque refund.

;)

is this locked to a network?

3 by looks of it

Not that bad a phone, but the official firmware is over-restrictive, and you really need to unlock the bootloader and put custom firmware on to get the best out of it.
#10
600Mhz Qualcomm processor, 128 MB storage, 168 MB RAM.

Full specs can be found here.

We're talking Orange OSF/ZTE Blade territory here so not a bad phone for the money.

Go for a san fran, better specs + screen, not much more.

Can you recommend a smart phone with good battery life. I haven't made the switch over to a smart phone yet as they all seem to need charing every other day, which i hate.
#16
Anybody know how to unlock this ? Thanks~
#17
I got this for free from T-Mobile and that was too much to pay for this piece c###p. Poor battery life, fiddly to use, just really, really bad.

40 quid is good but this phone isn't great

Anyone's got it by now ?? Is it unlocked ?

why would anyone buy a phone nearly 2 years old which was low end when it originally came out in the first place?

the Orange Monte Carlo is the new budget king and it has a much better CPU, Screen and Camera than the original san francisco, it also has better custom roms than the similarly specced san francisco 2.

therefore OMC > San Fran 2 > San Fran

prob coz its cheap and people cant afford the new nifty low end ones out at the mo, i think not 100% the san fran is around £90+ this is alot cheaper, and people seem to forget, a phone is just that, used for calling people, most people dont care if they come packed with all these things bluetooth, apps, wot android verison it is, as most wont use/dont care about them anyway,

you do realise the OMC is around £125 and regularly goes on sale every couple of months?

i managed to pick one up for £90 brand new 2 months back from argos.

therefore the san francisco shouldn't ever of been mentioned in the first place.

also the san fran has bluetooth, apps, CM7 support, etc, so you honestly have no clue what you are talking about and your post makes zero sense.

if you dont care about any of that stuff you can get a brand new nokia for 99p (in a sale)-£20 in most places which is brilliant for just calls and txt's, which doesn't come with any fancy stuff not even a camera if you dont care about bluetooth, apps and android.

anyway OMC (£90-£125) > San Francisco 2 (£100-£150) > San Fran (£90-£120)

This is weird, why we comparing apples and pearls, one is 39.99, the above are 100-150, of course they are going to be better, they are 3 times the price, sell me an omc for 39.99 and we will all buy it, but for 40 quid this is an OK phone. As for battery life, the Iphone costs 500 quid and still has crap battery,I m yet to find a smart phone with a long battery life

let me put it in english for you, while you and i go for specs on the phone, there are other people out there that just go for a phone thats cheap, regardless what specs it as, this phone is cheaper than all the 3 you mention, hence why some will take advantage of this phone,

for the simple fact being they want it for basic use, or maybe even want a cheap android phone, TO CALL people. why would they pay nearly twice as much for an android phone when they can get this cheap at half the price, if they want it for just basic things like calling someone.or just want a basic very cheap android phone

well said my point exactly, just because us people who can afford to get to phones and in the know about whats the best phone spec wise does not mean this deal is cold, it may be for you or i but others who can just about manage to buy this phone its a great deal

as i said above i managed to pick up the OMC for £90, which is only double the price of this phone and im pretty sure people have £90 for a phone which can do pretty much everything an Iphone or top android phone can on a large, screen, can be fully unlocked for free, etc.

i was just saying that this is a really crap phone when compared to a £90 phone if i only had £40 for a phone, i would save up the extra £50 or if that wasn't possible, i would simply buy the cheapest phone nokia make which has been found on sale for 99p sometimes and usually costs around £15-£25 brand new.

the phone in this "deal" is not worth bothering with imo

it maybe a crap phone as you say but its a much more affordable phone for those who cant afford to throw away £90, like i say not all are intrested in top specs, for those who are wouldnt buy this phone abviously

OMC is not a top spec phone, in fact it is extremely poorly specced.

but the fact of the matter is, it is the only cheap android phone which actually has a pleasant user experience. it's just fast enough to work smoothly, just has the right size of ram to work smoothly, etc.

this phone is going to run like a snail and you had wished you had spent the extra £50.

buy a phone for £40 and hate using it and end up buying another in 6months, or buy a phone for £90 and be happy with it for year, then sell it on for £90 in a years time, essentially making it free, not throwing money away.

let me give you an example.

i bought the san fran in dec 2010 for £90, i unlocked it and rooted it for free, i then put CM7 on it for free, all of which have plenty of youtube videos and dummies guides on how to do, even a 12 year old could follow them.

i bought the OMC for £90 in Jan 2012 and sole the san fran on ebay for £98 i think it was (around £80 after fee's).

guess what, the san fran cost me £10 to use it for a year, name another phone which can do that?

i will sell this phone in a years time for roughly £100 and buy whatever orange's next budget model is.

the phone may cost £90 up front, but you get that all back when you upgrade.

I'd rather get the huawei blaze for 49.99 on the phones4u deal, which is still available

.
10 out of 10 for realising they are not top spec phones,
0 out of 10 for actually reading what i said.

two questions :
1-is there any smart phone (refurbished) up to £50 which is better than this?
2-can this phone be unlocked easily to use o2?

It may not be the best phone, but you'll be hard pressed to find a cheaper deal for an android. Just got one to practice writing android phone apps.
They go for more on ebay, so if it is no good I can sell it for a profit!!

if you take resale value into account then yes there are brand new smart phones which are a lot better than this

as above, with the orange phones you can buy them use them for a year then sell them for £10 less than what you bought them for.

this phone will be worth £10 in 1 years time, if it's still working, remember it's a refurm you have no idea why it has been refurbed in the first place.

These phones are all unlocked as stock is from the Carphone Warehouse. I am really liking the x8 as a phone for 50 quid, will be installing gingerbread after a root.

I dont think it be £10 next year..
I had a samsung tocco lite which isnt even a smart phone, bought it over a year ago for £50 and sold it a week ago on ebay for £35.and that wasnt just a lucky sell..
and about refurb, many people just return the item becaus ethey simply dont like it.I've bought a couple of items as refurbed and they were basically brand new...not saying they are all perfect but there is a good chance you get a good product which someone just did not like..
