I have read through dozens of camcorder reviews comparing Sony, Canon and Panasonic HD camcorders. I finally opted for the Sony SR12E after comparing them all at John Lewis.

This is the deal I have found.

Amazon currently sell the SR12E (full UK model) for £656.54. I believe this is the cheapest price in the UK. Certainly the cheapest from a reputable company. Sony are offering £60 cashback on this model until 31st December 2008. Simply mail them proof of purchase and they will send you a cheque.

Total price £596.54.

Im so gutted about the £60 cashback as I bought a full hd camcorder last week in October :(

I would be interested to know why some people are voting this cold. Can it be found cheaper, or is there anything else better at the same price point? From what I have read and seen it equals it's direct rivals from Canon/JVC/Panasonce for video quality and features, plus gives them all a beating as far as build quality is concerned.

.or is it just that £600 is a lot of money for some people to spend on a camcorder?

Amazon just reduced the price by another couple of quid. Now £594.09 after cashback.

That is a fantastic price!
I have been chomping at the bit for one of these for ages, I was tempted at £650 but thought better of it as I know I shouldn't - now you are showing it at this price and.... arrghh!! Even in a large discount store in the USA this weighs in at approximately £740 (before the rate nose dived).

Thank you (I think!!) for the post, heat and rep added.

P.s. Ignore the cold voters, they base it on whether they can afford it/want it rather than if it is a good deal or not.
