Seems very expensive for standard DVD. Does the amp have DAB per chance?

im not sure. the reason i found this a good deal is because lots of people on av forums etc say it can handle LPCM from the ps3 which is effectively HD audio. if that is so it is a ver good price!

As long as you can upgrade the speakers - not sure one would notice HD audio with those i'm afraid.

thanks for that :). at this price range i was wondering whether to go for this system or spend about £40-£60 less and get a samsung ht-tz225 or something like that. if i wouldn't notice the HD audio there is not much point in me spending £40 more for this. any reccomendations?

I'm not sure i'm afraid for this price range. I would get something that can be upgraded over a few months. Eg, I have a V559 DAB Yamaha amp which has various optical inputs and have it for PS3 and Macbook. Also bought the iPod dock for it which charges my ipod/phone and lets me control it with the remote. Only started off with two front speakers, then got two rears and looking for a centre one. Also has DAB. Got if for a bargain brand new off eBay but was so long ago that i've forgotten the price. It good because I can upgrade slowly as I find what I want.

ye that is one option i was thinking of with the onkyo htx-22hd and then buying the seperate speakers to make it a 5.1 system. the only thing is that i ordered a samsung ht-tz325 from amazon for my dad to giv me for xmas, but it got delivered to the wrong hous so i cancelled and he sed we can get another system for my present. so i would rather just get the whole system instead of upgrading as i am only a teenager and can't afford to upgrade myself lol. think im best off just getting an all-in-one system?
P.S. iv already got 4 optical cables, an optical switch, coaxial cable and stereo cables. for connecting my xbox, ps3, wdtv and tv. so i don't really need lots of inputs

Not sure i'm afraid. Depends on budget available. Have a loot at Richer sounds as they have these which I imagine will be quite decent:

But would need an amp too and to save costs, may be better getting a second hand one?

they look good but with the price of an amp they would be out of budget :(. looking to spend no more than £220 but about £190 preferably. i would mainly use it for xbox, ps3, music, movies and the occassional bluray so i doubt i would need HD audio because it will just increase costs :(. its for my bedroom btw so should i just go with an all-in-one like the samsungs?
just pricing the amp + speakers and i think im better off going with something like the samsung ht-tz225. i dont need anything high end as this is my 1st system, so i think this will be good for my gaming and movie needs. even though it isn't upgradable il just have to compromise :( lol

Yeah, you need to go for whatever is affordable. But my only concern is you will be paying for a DVD player that you may never use. However Samsung don't do speaker & amp packages that do not have a DVD player so on that basis you have no choice.

ye il probably use the dvd player but i defo dont need it. i liked the system in this post but it just seems expensive for what you get. i have the cables etc so im not too worried about inputs. even though they are awkward to upgrade i think il just go for an all-in-one as it seems better for a beginner like myself because i have done lots of research on them and tbh i have no idea about amp + speaker things. thanks for your help though mate

very good deal heat + rep.

This would be the best deal ever.. if only they offererd a blu ray and not a dvd player... But it is a good dvd player.

The speakers by themselves were ~£230 before.

Just a reminder to people that if your looking more at the av receiver look at the HT-DDWG800 as it is superior in many ways.
