This has to be cold this is in the price range of amp and speakers, you can get a budget amp and some half decent speakers from richer sound for the price of this.

cheap Sony amp £119

Onkyo speakers £149 would spend the extra £50 and get the tannoy or jamo but these are acceptable and all in at £270 which in my opinion is a way better but than some pants all in one solution and way more flexible

But what if someone does want this "pants all in one" system ?

It's cheaper than elsewhere, so heat added from me ... plus, I think Sony kit is excellent

You could do that and you're more than welcome to your opinion. But this is a good solution for people with limited space, it also gets very good reviews on Amazon and various other technology and audio/video web sites -http://www.whathifi.com/Review/Sony-HT-IS100/

Hows there going to be a space issue? its a 5.1pack and a amp unless you live in a cupboard then Ive never heard anything like it, the subs on these are smaller than the Sony as they don't have all the decoders built in and the best bit is for around £20 you can cover the amp for 5years and if your amp goes you don't loose all your speakers aswell which is what happens with these.

A couple of months ago i had one of these blow up I'd had it a couple of years now there was nothing wrong with the speakers infact i was very pleased with them sound wise but one day i turned on my hd media player and that in turn should of fired up the sub/amp but it didn't so instead of going out and buying a cheap replacement amp i couldn't so the whole lot went in the bin and i went out and spent £500 on a proper amp and speaker pack so now when one goes the others still usable with just a new amp.

Hence the cold vote.

No one mentioned that Sony was rubbish that was something that you said and as ive explained i have a good reason as to why you shouldnt go down this route, its not very flexible where as a amp is.

separates are best with amp for sound quality and price even if this is a Sony!

Who cares what is best or not, this is cheaper than other places so it has to be voted hot or left alone. Why vote cold simply because you don't like it!!

Been looking at AV Receivers all night and my brain is wrecked at which one to buy.

Its not fair to slate this deal before having the pleasure of listening to it do its bit, its a surprisingly good system!

I bought this amp about a year ago for £400. Looked at the separates solution and agree that if you want the best cinema effects and 7.1 (with the additional speakers) then that is the way forward.

However I rarely run my system mega loud (and probably most people won't given neighbours etc) and for such small speakers you can get a lot of sound out of them. Visitors always comment on the unobrtusive size of the speakers and keeps the wife happy as the TV room doesn't look like a sound studio with massive speakers.

Also worth noting that the sub/amp also acts as a switching device for 3 HDMI inputs though that restricts postioning as needs to be close to TV and other equipment to avoid long cables. Also I have a Sony TV and the system is fully integrated with it, so only need to press one button to have the whole lot turn on.

Only cons are speakers are small so more of the bass sounds have to come from the Sub compared to other systems and display for the Amp is on the top of the sub so you have to stand over it to read it, but not a big problem really.

Voted hot for price!!
