Great price and find, heat added.

For me the problem with these devices is that the iphone / ipod is held in place by the port connector. Knowing the weaknesses of the back of the iphone case any pressing of the buttons will inevitably put pressure on it causing the back to crack. I am looking for something that actually supports the phone where you can't force / rock the phone backwards causing any breakages. Is there such a reliable dock like that?

Yes - take a look at this one Sony XDRDS12iP- we have it in the kitchen & the iphone is supported by an adjustable back support:

Averages about £80, but you might be able to get it cheaper from certain stores using quidco or vouchers...

I almost bought the Sony ICF-CliP version whilst in Tescos earlier looks identical at first couldn't tell the difference, nor could the numnutts that I asked. Have yet to fully investigate why it was cheaper at £44.99 ish, it's also on the site. I think it is mainly because it doesn't have DAB radio unlike the Sony XDRDS12iP. I stream my DAB channels on my iphone so it may not be necessary plus the saving maybe handy. Will make up my mind when I am dragged round the shop doing the groceries.

you also have a clock, alarm and fm radio on the iphone. why buy the dock at all?

convenience!
