I would happily buy this at twice the price as long as it was from a large supermarket at 2 a.m. with a huge mob of other people tearing at my flesh to try and pick up the same box.

So just sell the soundbar...

I picked up the 55 inch Curved Samsung H7200 from Currys last month with a free curved soundbar. Soon flogged that.. It brought the tv in at £970

Would be great if they could also do a deal on the 49 inch version for near the £1000 mark as others have said:

I LOVE the new 4K TVs but there still isnt even anyone transmitting at 1080p yet (TVs been around for 10 years or more). The guy in the shop was really honest. It dont look like thgere will be a great deal available in 4K anytime soon so a 4K TV is a bit of a waste. The odd BluRay will be 4K but that really is about it.

That was the "common sense" reason not to buy it.

The "fun reason" to go ahead and buy one is the "Blimey" factor.

You could play 4K videos from Youtube such as Costa Rica 4K, I'm not sure how long that would keep you entertained, maybe 5 minutes.

Maybe a bit longer if I put it on loop.

Sony admits their speakers on their TV are rubbish as they need a sound bar
#20
How is this one for gaming?
#21
This TV has been **** on in reviews for picture quality, seems like they're just trying to see the 4K stat because it is easier to market than picture quality.

I'd say save your money and buy a much better 1080p display, especially since there is no 4K content yet, hell in the UK we're still waiting for most content to reach 1080p.

23.5kg - shouldn't be a problem with a good bracket and sturdy wall

Samsung provide a UHD drive with 3 films on. Life of Pi is amazing.

Theres a load of documentries too, ranging from about 3-50 minutes.

Netflix show Breaking Bad and House of Cards. Think Amazon is starting soon.
4k on Youtube although most of it is Go Pro footage.

PS4 looks amazing on mine, much better than my older 1080p plasma IMO

The one problem I have had is seeing some Blu Rays look awful and being shown up by the tv, you can tell scenes aren't real.
Also Standard def looks crapper than ever.

£60 for brand new on ebay..

I bought one of these from Amazon recently and they certainly weren't selling for £60 on eBay - more like £80. Got mine brand new for £85 on Amazon.

Link to any review slamming picture quality would be nice, as far as I can see it scores 9.8/10 on reevoo..

Been following this TV for a while now, it's been £1349 on Sonic Direct for last few weeks and as far as I'm aware, John Lewis will price match them.

As for the TV, I have been several times to Currys to see this side by side with the Samsung's equivalent UE55HU7500. Initially I assumed the Samsung would be better based on the reviews online but to be honest I thought the Sony was the better TV. The colours popped better on the Sony and were more distinguished. Each to their own though, the TVs are both good but seeing as the Samsung costs more I would have expected it to beat the Sony hands down. Obviously you can't do a proper test in a shop on all fields but similarly you can't get both tvs in your house to test them side by side!

Not sure why the reviews for this TV are in the 7.5 / 10 range here in the UK. For a comparison look at this TV on bestbuy's website (USA) and the TV gets a 4.8 / 5.0.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/sony-55-class-54-5-8-diag--led-2160p-smart-3d-4k-ultra-hd-tv-black/5005006.p?id=1219106275392&skuId=5005006

Will be buying this TV in Jan / Feb if it breaks £1200 price mark.

Out of curiosity, with non-native resolutions usually being poor on LCD TV's, and given the native resolution for this is 4K, what is the display quality actually like for 1080p or 720p?

I'm a custom installer and the x8505 models are some of my favourite TV's at the moment

Honest summary
Great TV excellent picture
4k content can be played off Netflix (only House of Cards and Breaking Bad) but Youtube has lots of 4k content that looks great check out some of the Go Pro videos especially the iceberg climbing
Sound as someone said you'll never get great sound from a flat TV....its ok but not the best if sound is more your thing the 8000 series curved Samsungs have amazing sound for a 'flat' tv
Apps are good and the networking capabilities are excellent
Killer feature for me on this TV is the ability to turn the TV on/off properly using IP this can only be done by the Sony x8505, x9005 and I believe one model of Panasonic's can do this. What I mean is turn this TV off to a point it uses almost no power at all.
Another consideration is that this TV has some clever algorithms that Sony use to imporve picture quality claiming its better than its peer and lastly of course HEVC codec

Oh should add if anyone wants to see a proper demo of this TV....not a Currys style demo. My showroom is in Cheshire give me a shout and happy to show it off to you
