Essentially no HDR on this particular model it has the ability to accept the signal but does not have the necessary hardware to do anything with it.

I am also wondering about this as I have just picked one up, is there an easy way of telling normally?

I have this tv and an xbox one S. when connected it gives you a message saying that you have connected to a HDR tv and upgrades the graphics. Played Halo 5 and FH 2. Looked excellent.

That will the TV up scaling to 4K. But Halo 5 does not support HDR.

This is the problem with TV's like this. They say it's HDR because it supports it. It can't display it though as it's a normal 8bit panel.
Like saying a tv is 1080p when it's really 720p but can take in 1080p signals and scale them. It's utter bs that companies can advertise them like this when it's just a lie. Has neither the screen colours nor brightness to do hdr at all.

Actually it's the xbox scaling it. XB1s supports 4k output. But obviously isn't rendering in that.

Yeah that's what I thought as when I researched I found that the tv doesn't do HDR. Looked good though... coming off a HD TV

Not happy about the HDR crap Sony advertising for this model makes this a bad deal however for the ones without a care about HDR it is a hot deal.

It's not just Sony all the manufacturers are using HDR to sell sets regardless of their actual capability to make thing easier look for Premium UHD certification it guarantees the set makes a minimum standard of HDR ability unfortunately Sony are the only major player not signed up to this but if you check the specs the Sony XD93 range is the entry point that would make the grade but that comes at a price almost double the cost of this set in the same screen size.

Why not just own a PS4 and Xbone S?

I haven't got a bias one way or the other but my opinion is the S was a far bigger upgrade from the original 'VCR' Xbone than the Pro was from the original PS4.

I will end up getting the X and the Pro almost certainly as I got the 65XE9005 but the more I think about it the more I'm prepared to stick with the consoles I have already till early next year. To me once there's been a price drop on both machines and we know which one plays titles lol like RDR2 and the new Far Cry game better I'll go with that straight away 8)

Wow. Didn't think it was ever priced that much. I bought it in March bundled with a ps4 slim for £715. Used up £200 Amazon vouchers I had.

HDR is a nightmare for the consumer. You have non standardised HDR, Dolby Vision, HDR and now HDR10+ and Hybrid Gamma Log. You also have plenty of TV's which are fake HDR and fake 4K so 8bit or 8bit+FRC and have RGBW matrix.

4K is a royal fck up, this will all be fixed for 8K we hope. 4K consumers were and are guinea pigs.

Also seems to be very little hdr content around. Not worth spending much on a TV until there are some real standards in place for these areas.
