Rated 5* by What HiFi when reviewed at £2,000

Currently £1,299 (RRP on Sony Website is £1,800)

I have been keeping an eye on this TV over the last few days, cheapest i have found it, next cheapest is JL @ £1,399. Both places have a 5 year warranty.

I have been eyeing up this and the cheaper Samsung 55KS7000 (~£950) but chose this because when i took a look instore the picture looked better and it has excellent HDR ratings. It also has a central stand, got to look at the practicalities! The equivalent TV from Samsung is actually probably the KS8000.

Product information (taken from JL)

Be blown away by the colour-crazy brilliance of Sony’s XD93. With its eye-popping HDR panel, this 4K set ups the ante with its expanded colour palette, startling depth and pin-sharp motion. This tech is boosted by the brand’s glossy TRILUMINOS display, contrast-driving Slim Backlight Drive and immersive 3D. With all this innovation packed into its tiny 11.75mm frame, your home entertainment has never been so beautiful. Furthermore, Sony’s suite of Smart features on the Android platform gives the extraordinary content you need to explore an equally extraordinary panel.
Game-Changing HDR Premium
Forays into colour-boosting High Dynamic Range (HDR) have begun, and Sony are one of the forerunners. As members of the newly-founded UHD Alliance, they've delivered top-shelf HDR with a staggering 10-bit colour depth. This means that there are over a billion individual colours to deepen your view and show shades you’ve never seen in home entertainment before. Usually, studios are forced to dilute the colour of their shows and films to fit on our TVs. Now, HDR screens like the XD93 can channel content from studio-to-living room with the same precision and utterly otherworldly hues. Beaming at the highest HDR level on-the-market, this model almost matches real-life, bringing you closer to your shows than ever before.
Rich, Ravishing 4K
To respond to screens getting bigger, brands have packed their screens with more pixels. This 55” screen has four times the number of pixels than 1080p HD TVs, delivering stunning realism, natural motion and incredible detail.
Lustrous Contrast With X-Tended Dynamic Range PRO
With the help of Sony’s Slim Backlight Drive, this XD93 has three times the brightness of a standard LED TV. This leads to brilliant, buoyant brights and detailed, rich darks. These higher peaks and deeper blacks are achieved by the unique backlighting algorithm which adjusts to each frame to deliver stunning visual detail.
Up-Scaling 4K X-Reality PRO
Enhance everything you watch on your Sony Bravia TV with the 4K X-Reality PRO and improved X1 processor. This engine boosts the picture quality of everything from dazzling 1080p Blu-ray Disc™ movies to very low-resolution Web video to near-4K. After analysing each pixel and comparing patterns, the system restores detail lost in compression and transmission. The system also reduces noise and reproduces optimum contrast, colour and sharpness. The result is that you experience stunning 4K picture quality with better clarity, for anything you watch.
Delightful TRILUMINOS Display
Sony’s TRILUMINOS Display Technology expands the range of colours of that you see on more conventional LED displays, injecting images with more lustre. The eye-popping picture is treated with deeper reds, more natural greens and sharper blues, giving your shows and films a richer palate. Combined with image-deepening HDR, this tech will make your viewing simply extraordinary.
Crisp Motion
With Motionflow XR 1000Hz, every image on the screen refreshes at a higher rate than normal. Sports and fast-moving action look noticeably smoother, sharper and more natural, with reduced blur and judder.
Super-Smart Android
Your Smart TV has just got smarter with Android. Developed by Google, you'll be able to enjoy seamless entertainment, intelligent search and the latest apps from the likes of Google Play and Netflix. All the personalisation, intelligence and entertainment of your Smartphone or tablet can be easily viewed on the Sony TV too, taking your viewing experience to the next level. Enjoy built-in Google Cast, letting you beam content from your smartphone straight to the big screen, Voice Search and the hundreds of apps.*
Playstation Now
This fresh feature from Sony lets you play a rich catalogue of PS3 games through your TV. All you need is a Playstation 3 or 4 controller and a subscription to the service (sold separately) to get gaming.
Youview Catch-Up
In addition to a wealth of online entertainment, this set comes with built-in YouView. The seven day scroll back TV guide brings together catch up TV from across BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, 4oD and Demand 5**. You can also enjoy over 70 live TV channels and radio stations for free, such as BBC 1 & 2, ITV, Channel 4, E4, Channel 5, 5 USA, ITV 2 and Dave
Stunning Floating Design
The XD93 is designed to keep your living room clean, tidy and beautiful. Keep all your cables hidden behind the cover and unique stand, hide the back’s ports with the side cover and marvel at the super-slim frame’s near-invisible edge. If you’d like to wall mount it, it designed to sit just 36.7mm from the wall so it hangs like a picture.

Now this is tempting. Playstation now, 3d, 10bit, decent stab at HDR, passive 3d and has legs in a sensible place unlike the samsung.

Hot!

From my goto source for TV reviews:
http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/kd65xd9305-201604034267.htm

It turned out we had to engage [HDMI Enhanced Signal] and then restart the TV to get the Sony XD9305 to recognise HDR metadata from the Samsung 4K BD player. And it was totally worth the effort, because in some ways the KD-65XD9305′s HDR presentation was even more spectacular than the Samsung UE55KS9000 we recently tested despite not boasting as high a peak brightness.

High praise indeed!

Active 3d and 51ms lag for gaming :(

Saved me a grand or so at least.

37ms if you put on gaming mode and remove dimming. It's not ideal but does give an option if you find it an issue. I would expect that Sony would have fixed the bug with the HDR metadata by now with a firmware update but can't confirm.
#4
where did you get the 37ms figure from? plus doesn't the Leo Bodnar test only test 1080p?
#6
are there any retailers that would price match costco?
#7
Richer Sounds will price match their online prices, Costco charge more instore to online i found out earlier (which is stupid) so i bought from Richer Sounds. Had to forfeit the HDMI cable, no big loss there!
