Excellent 2D performance. Poor 3D performance may now have been fixed by a firmware update... http://www.sony.no/discussions/message/770957
I should get FreeviewHD next week after the second retune (tuner is built-in), but handling of SD is beautiful.
Web browser is painfully slow and would have to be used for ITV and C4 catchup services.
iPlayer works well with the dedicated built-in app. I used the 10/100 port rather than the expensive Sony usb wifi dongle or a 10/100 'universal' wifi connector. The "internet video" button on the remote is the easy way of getting to it - rather than through the extensive menu system.
Seems that adding a usb drive (32gb to 2tb limits, but can have several 'registered') gives recording and playback but not simple PVR 'pause live tv' functionality. ***
Sound is a bit thin. But despite the i-Manual's 'fixed' description, headphone/ext-active-speaker volume output does adjust with the remote's volume control.
Skype requires Sony's own camera+mic (say £60 on eBay or £100 dealer).
Sorting favourites is a faff, so use the four different lists and keep them fairly short!
Programme Guide is good. And simple. And quick.
I've turned off the 'presence sensor' not detecting a viewer and screen-saving.
Screen is noticeably dimmer when allowing the thing to auto-correct for ambient lighting levels.
Lots of setup options, keep scrolling down! (Tiny scroll bars indicate more to see.)
Left on standby, it is said to only use about 1/4 of a watt, which isn't very sinful.
This is a very recently discontinued high spec model.
I think its well worth £350, but I bagged an ex-demo one for somewhat less than that, a fortnight ago.
*** Scart RGB input from the old (SD) Humax looks plenty good enough on screen, so that's how its mainly being used for now. For which purpose the 'granny-proof' (extra) single screen standby/wake button on the underside of the remote has proved useful ...
