Just picked up 2 of these at the Trafford Centre John Lewis after getting them to price match John Lewis Southampton. Why Southampton store? Well as stephen2k5 pointed out in his thread here:

http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/582169/sony-kdl-32s5500-southampton-fareha

Sony Centre stores were doing them for £299 in Southampton so i thought i'd see if they're price matching them. They weren't but they were matching someone else at £349 so JL Trafford matched the price! :D

Reciept will be posted in the morning for all the doubters - I have a feeling price could come down even more as it's a discontinued model. Guy said if it comes down within 28 days of purchase you can claim back the difference!

Anyone voting cold please explain, reciept will be posted in morning, no flash on my HTC Hero hence terrible pictures!

Not a bad price, not as good as the SC deal posted before but still a decent buy

The TV itself is around 1-2 months until it goes end of line so thats why this is getting fairly cheap

The 28 day's price match is true. I had to buy a telly before Xmas as old one went Phfut. JL put the price down in their sale after Xmas by £130 and they refunded no probs. Well pleased and see this morning they are top shop for customer care too.

5 year warranty very worthwhile on a Sony - their newer TVs don't live up to the reputation they earned many years ago.
#5
Sony and panasonic best picture you can get this price is only average as end of line model Panasonic same price at argos but no 5 year gurantee!
#6
Isn't the Sony S series their bottom budget range?

I would have thought a similarly priced mid-range offering from another manufacturer would be a better choice.

I'm sure someone will correct me, but according to Amazon this is a 2006 model with 720p
#8
Pity theres none online

A bunch of exclamtion marks & "Price matched" isn't enough to make me vote this hot.
I think you paid a fair price for what it is...

Other stores do it also, Bristol for example as posted about a month ago :)

Yeah it's only 720p, but its great for a bedroom TV, we bought one of these when our KDL32D got a stripy screen, it was a great stand-in whilst our 1080p was fixed.

I'm not voting cold for this, but for anyone who wanted a reasonable 32" telly, Tesco have their own brand 32 (full hd) for £199 online.

A friend of mine bought this for his bedroom (anyone remember when you were lucky to have a 14" portable in the bedroom?) and is pleased with it. Yes, I know Tesco is currently out of stock, but waiting for a telly isn't the end of the world, is it?

And the flood gates are opened for people who inexplicably feel an affinity to well known brands...:whistling:

I will ... it was released in April 2009 according to this (taken from Amazon).

There are several S-Series sets (5500 is the latest one) so I suspect they may be quoting an older model.

Yes it is only 720p, but it's a cracking picture. Remember that 720p on this 32" set is better than 1080p on other poor branded 32" sets. Don't think 1080p is automatically better.

I have a 32" S Series and a 40" W Series Sony.

The S Series is not the budget range. The U and L series are lower down the pecking order.

Apparently there is very, very little noticeable difference between 720p and 1080p on a 32" screen. The quality of the TV in other areas is more important.

That's absolute nonsense :-D

That lie was made up by shops to flog cheap 720p sets when 1080p 32" sets were much more expensive. They didn't want people waiting for the 1080p sets to come down in price.

If you can't see the difference on a 32" but you can on a larger screen, you're either sitting too close to the larger screen or too far away from the 32". Simple.

Ok i'm confused why people are talking about it only being 720p ?. The Sony spec off their website says 1080i http://www.sony.co.uk/product/t32-s-series/kdl-32s5500/tab/technicalspecs#tab . I have this T.V at home and it clearly comes up with on the T.V's on screen display as 1080i (not p ) when i start my xbox 360 up in HD  Am i missing something ? (p.s) cracking T.V by the way .At this price i couldn't be happier with it ! .

It'd be because it can only do 1080i, not p which is the far superior standard. Have a read up on the differences between i and p and all will become clear.

Since the early 70's i have purchased Japanese technology.
In the past ten years i have been sadly disapointed.
From a high level Surround system that had to be resoldered because the sound failed. To a 37inch LCD TV that lasted just Two years before being writtten off.
I get the impression that , like the Bristish Motor industry, the are living in the past

Cheers but i guess i wasn't being clear . Posts are saying this T.V can only do up to 720p res but it can do 1080i  . 1080i must be better than 720p right ?

Unfortunately this appears to be true!!! Gone are the days when you could expect 10 years from your "Japanese" Panasonic or Sony TV. My last Sony lasted 7, my Panasonic about the same. Family, on my say-so, get Pana or Sony...those days are gone now as they no longer make them in Japan...usually China or wherever!

720=1080i the i stands for interlaced. 1080p much better picture.
