I think the 'U' model doesn't have the Bravia engine, I may be wrong?

It does.

"Which?" describe it as "Sony Bravia KDL-32U3000" - I'll be the first to admit they know more than I do! ;-)

I think the U seriesis made by Beko in Turkey and branded by Sony. Its mainly sold in supermarkets cheap as a spur of the moment (don't do any research) purchase. The build quality and the picture quality don't compared well to other series from Sony e.g S, W, V, X, t, P to name a few. If you want a cheap 32" LCD you can do better than this your buying the label on a low end model. Don't get me wrong sony make some great lcds e.g the KDL32W4000 but that 699 +. you pay for what you get....

Quality of the "frame" beats the others hands down mind.

When was this a Which Best Buy? I knew the Panasonics and Toshibas had done well but don't remember the Sony 32U being on the list...

I didn't think this tv was very well rated as, as already stated, its a low cost set branded by Sony.

Colder than an Eskimo's ****. These TVs are ****, i feel bad every time someone buys one at work. I get comments like "Brilliant price! And it's a Sony, so it must be good!" and all i feel is guilt for not infroming them otherwise.

Toshiba and Samsung make better sets at the same price. Heck, even the Philips 5522 is better than these things.

Just subscribed to the which mag and looked at their best buys, yes the panasonics beat most but the Sony KDL-32U3000 is in the list of best buys
