go for the 5810 series with Freesat.
5810 now support Iplayer Beta!

I have the w5500 version , picked it up for 400 some time ago (luckily).

I still think this is a good deal, but you might have to pay delievery, in store stock seems very limited.

The W5500 has a grey/silver speaker bar 'highlight' whereas the W5710 speaker bar highlight is black.

For the price difference between this 5710 and a 5810 of about £200 I'm sure you could get a standalone Freesat box.

Yes, though you will have to register the product with Sony to get the 3 year guarantee. More on the 3 year guarantee - http://www.sony.co.uk/hub/bravia-lcd-televisions/15/1

Don't see why not. Only keep in around 1 at a time of bigger TVs just cos its a right problem finding somewhere to put em, (especially in the rubbish little stores like the one I worked at) so might be hard finding one instore.

£699 in john lewis. So you could get them to pricematch and get a 5 year warranty
#16
Last night I went for this one instead from M&S also with 5 yr warranty. and 5% quidco

http://www.marksandspencer.com/Samsung-37-LE37B550-Ready-LCD/dp/B002M882RQ?ie=UTF8&qid=1267633638&categoryNodeID=43992030&ref=sr_1_3&page=&node=198143031&sr=1-3&mnSBrand=core&rh=

Not 100Hz though, is that worth an extra £50?
#17
These were £400 @ Asda last year but there was VERY limited stock, I got one though, hooray

I also got 2 x 40W5710 @ £499 each from a deal posted here (John Lewis)

Yes the extra £50 is worth it as the Sony is far better

That is the best deal put forward for this. John Lewis is way better than Argos.
#21
I ordered one the other day. Seems fair price. 3 years warranty is good.
This was a Sony centre / john lewis exclusive until recently.

Seems this price at argos expires tommorow 4/3/2010

you'll only get a pricematch if its in stock in a store local to john lewis, which considering the limited availability of this product in store is very slim

they're both 100Hz, only difference is the speaker bezel

Sony better than Samsung? Me thinks not!
Samsung LE40B500 £518 from Amazon.
Support 1080p/24 viewing mode as well.
Would you not rather have 40" instead of 37"? John Lewis are doing it for £550 with five years warranty but out of stock.
Check out what hifi reviews, their opinion it's the best TV under £1000, 5 stars as opposed to the Sony's only getting 4.
#26
Been to John Lewis, They will not price match unless within 7 miles, none in store stock anywhere I can find!

Salesman in John Lewis thought it must be a glitch, as the 32 inch is this price. He advised me to run home and reserve, Run Charlie Run!!!

Advised Sony is 3 years rather than John Lewis 5 years, buy £200 difference would cover any repairs!!

Ordered!

The Sony 37W5710 supports 1080p/24 via HDMI. WhatHIFI also rated the 37W5500 (which is only cosmetically different to the 37W5710) 5 stars. The Sony 40" size TVs have known issues with uneven backlighting.

I was referring to value for money, as in £518 to get a damn good 40 incher.
Or alternatively the Samsung LE37B550A5 again Full HD 1080p with /24 mode and gaming mode
£449 at Amazon.
#29
Just ordered the 32W5500 from M&S for £499 with free 5 year warranty and free delivery (Will take 2 weeks to deliver though:x)
Now thinking about whether to cancel the order and get the 37" version (even though I sit very close to the TV in my room, will probably go blind:w00t:)

Also, does anyone know how long this current deal and the Play.com deal for the same TV runs? I would like for my TV to be delivered anytime after the 18th March.

Is the Samsung 50 or 100hz ?

from john lewis description

Please note: Based on the same high specification as the Sony KDL37W5500, the Sony KDL37W5710 features in addition a black speaker grille.

I also thought this could be mispriced based on fact argos are not advertising a discount. ie £200 off or anything like that. We all know how argos loves to advertise its discounts.
Having said all that play.com now lower price might mean that this product is soon to be obselete with freeview HD models coming and they trying to shift them

I called my local Sony shop. They've advised this is an end of line product.
They had stock and offered it for £699.00.
That was good of them :)

Samsung is only 50hz, but you would be hard to notice any difference. Blacks are supposedly better on the Samsung and it does not suffer bad backlight bleed like the Sony. Think the actual contrast on the Sony is only 8000:1 compared to the Samsung 15000:1 which may explain better blacks, ignoring the bull that is Dynamic that is!

The larger 40" TVs suffer from backlight bleed, not the 37" TVs though.

I'm sure I heard that Sony do not supply their own panels for 37 inch TV's.... and its always better to leave it and go for the 40 inch as the quality is superior....??

Well that rules out purchasing from Argos (as I have major work being done at home, due to be completed by 17th March). Guess I'll have a look at the deal on Play.com, then see if its still available around 15th-16th March as they take 3-4 days to deliver.

If not, I'll just stick with my current deal, 37" may be just a little too big for my room:?

I got the W5500 37" for £400 in October also with 3 year warranty. Mine is fine when watching in the day etc and picture quality is excellent. Backlight bleed in top right hand corner and bottom middle is bad on black/dark scenes. For example the start of '24' when the logo comes in. Top right corner is like someone shining a torch down on the screen. Have played with the settings and turned backlight down to 2 but still no luck.

Where do I stand warranty wise I wonder? Asda have none left and I've read Sony state this is normal on all LCD's. Never had this problem with previous Samsung.

has anyone found any branches that have these in stock?
I realise they will deliver ree but would like to get john lewis to pricematch and need a retail branch to do this. free 5 year warranty is worth quite a bit.
