Ok this is a little complicated but bear with me.

I know that stock will be low and there is not much time as the offer is running out but I think this is a good offer.

This price is only possible following the price match against the combination deal available in currys on line - £798.00 for TV and Blu Ray player:

Note: Currys are selling the TV on its own for £898 - to get the reduced price you have to look for the combination deal.

http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/sony-bravia-kdl-40hx803u-40-full-hd-3d-led-backlit-tv-bdp-s480-3d-ready-blu-ray-player-10404659-pdt.html

You then also need to supply a TV for collection by John Lewis so that you are entitled to a further £200 reduction against the SONY trade in scheme - national scheme running until 5 June 2011.

The reviews for the TV are pretty good, and you can buy a transmitter from Sony which converts the tv into a 3d tv.

If youre interested - the input lag is only 31 ms which is pretty good for an LCD meaning it should be ok for most console gaming.

Review here:

http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/sony-kdl-40hx803-kdl-46hx803-20100925858.htm

Good luck, I think this is a cracking deal as the TV was £1400 when released in September 2010.

Did you actually try it? you need to order a price match deal over the phone and the terms will be established in a prior email which will ensure that the deals match if you catch my drift.

Yep, tried it, items being delivered a week today. Did the price match via phone and e-mail, had to supply some screen shots of deal on currys website but I have to admit, John Lewis staff could not have been more helpful, I really could not fault them.
#2
OK, this seems like a good deal, but raises some questions.

I have heard that John Lewis have really tightened up their price promise, to try and wriggle out of it. So how did you manage to get them to price match on items that aren't comparable? i.e J.L. is just the TV but Currys is TV + Blu-ray player.
http://www.walletpop.co.uk/2011/02/07/revealed-john-lewis-caveat-on-price-match-promise/

Also what about the warranty at Currys? I can't see anywhere on your Currys link that says it's 5 years like JL's is.

I think you may have just struck lucky when you phoned

When you say you phoned - what number did you call? Or was it just your local store?
Was the email you submitted this form?
http://www.johnlewis.com/help/nkupricematchform.aspx#section1

Who did you submit the screen shots to?

Thanks - just wanting to get my head round it before trying it.

I just rang two of my local currys stores and they claim that the £798 price already includes the trade in. Ive rang john lewis anyway and put a price match in but i doubt it will go through.

Looks like a no go....

Thank you for your enquiry.

I have looked into your request and will be happy to match the price of £798.00 for the Sony Bravia KDL40HX803 television and blu ray player seen at Curry's. This price includes the Sony trade in offer with Curry's as they have automatically taken this into consideration.

Just to let you guys know where I am at, I have not yet recieved a phone reply regarding the price match query I made. However, I also completed an online price match form and recieved the following email:

'Thank you for your response.

I have looked into your request and will be happy to match the price of £798.00 for the Sony Bravia KDL-40HX803 TV and the Sony BDP-S480 Blu-ray Player seen at Curry's. JohnLewis.com do not offer those two item as a bundle and will be required to order them separately.

To place this order with us please call on 08456 049 049 and quote reference number ************. Please note the price difference will be refunded after the order has been billed. Please be aware that when you are placing the order you will be required to pay the full price. Once you have received the delivery you will then be refunded the price match difference.'

When I rang the number they further deducted £200 for trade in.

So £900 (TV) + £150 (Blu-ray) - £200 (Trade in) = £850 payed. And then when the tv gets delivered, I was told I would recieve a refund of £250.

Mine is being delivered next week. So best bet is to fill in the online form. Theres no harm in trying.

can you trade in any TV ?

I assume so. When I was ordering over the phone they didnt specify any limitations to the tv you trade in. I, myself, am trading in a 26" 'fat' tv.

If you go to the above link it says it can be "any make and model". Hope that answered your question. :)

So, I sent in an email online request yesterday and let's see what happens. No response or acknowledgement yet.

Even if they do price match - I don't want the DVD palyer, so would have to sell it on again!

Hi,

anyone had any luck with JL price macth refund? I reqquested the price match which got through with a confusing reply:

Dear XYZ,

Thank you for your email.

I have looked into your request and will be happy to match the price of £798.00 for the Sony Bravia KDL40HX803 television seen at Curry's.

To place this order with us please call on 08456 049 049 and quote reference number XXXXX. Please be aware when placing the order you will be required to pay the full price for the television and the blu ray player. When you do get to the checkout you are able to add the promotion code for the Sony trade. Once you receive the delivery of this you will then be refunded with the price difference.

This confused me to what exactly are they agreeing to match, so i asked for more details only to get another confusing reply:

Dear XYZ,

Thank you for your email.

The Sony trade-in discount of £200 will be applied at checkout when promotional code 'SONYTRADE200' is entered. The price match difference is refunded to your card used to make payment on the order. This is credited once the TV has been delivered to you.

If you wish further assistance regarding this then do not hesitate to contact me again.

Kind regards
I wonder why cant they just answer in a simpler way. Will the price be 598£ after the Sony trade in and Price match refund?
#15
In other words, you'll get charged a higher amount now, including the £200 trade in and when they confirm you have received the tv, they will refund you the difference to bring the overall price down to £599. it's all good. Mines coming next Wednesday. X)
#16
My price match came back yesterday with only a match against the TV, so no blu-ray, have replied so will see what they come back with.
#17
Well I got the price match today for both!!

Thank you for your enquiry.

I have looked into your request and will be happy to match the price of £798 for the Sony Bravia KDL40HX803 and Sony BDP-S480 3D Ready Blu-ray player seen at Curry's.

To place this order with us please call on 08456 049 049 and quote reference number [XXXXXX]. Please note the price difference will be refunded after the order has been billed.

When you call the 0845 number - do you get put through to your nearest store? As I would prefer to ring them direct (hate 0845 numbers), so I use SayNoTo0870
#18
wh431 - are you sure your getting the Sony BDP-S480 3D Ready Blu-ray Player? As your email would appear to be what vaugi is saying
#19
Having slept on this I'm not convinced we will get it for £598. I think when calling JL the conversation may go something like this

Me - I'd like to buy the Sony KDL 40 HX 803 andSony BDP-S480 3D Ready Blu-ray Player and I have a Price Match code XXXX.

JL - Fine that will be £898.95 + £149 making a total of £1,047.95 to be debited from your card today.

Me - I wish to also take advantage of the Sony Trade In Scheme using code SONYTRADE200

JL - OK that will make the total to be debited £847.95. The price difference will be refunded after the order has been billed.

Then I feel after delivery you will only see a credit on your card of £847.95 less the £798 = £49.95

When you ring to complain they will say they have simply done as their email says and Price Matched at £798.

Think I'll wait and see if anyone - like Monkey Nuts 2 above actually does get the full refund making it £598

Yes my price match quote was for both TV and DVD player.

Also i agree with you on the complexity of this price match equation. Therefore i ended up calling JL y'day and the person on phone described it the way you ve explained it above, so i am also sceptical that the refund will be mere 50£ making the price match 798£.

However i did challenge the JL guy on why they are including Sony Trade in, as it doesnt "seem" to be included in the Curry's offer, to which he said call our number tomorrow and someone will pick it up and correct the price if needed.

I am yet to call them and will update you guys.
#21
When you call them, this link may help you to prove Currys aren't including the £200 cash back in their offer, as they simply don't list the KDL 40 HX 803

http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/sony_trade_in-1284-commercial.html

I'm always cautious and would be worried by their statement
someone will pick it up and correct the price if needed.
Let me know how you get on
#22
The way the lady (from JL) explained it to me was that I pay £850 as an initial payment and then when the tv is delivered I will be refunded £250.

I recieved my blu-ray player today. Just waiting for the tv to be delivered next week to have a little play with it.

Updates:

I called JL yesterday and the Price match dept looked into it for and after a while confirmed that the refund will be 249£ and not 50£. They also made a note of this on my price match request.
I then called again today to place the order and the guy on the phone could confirm the refund amount, as it was noted on my Price match request.

Now the order is in and i shall be expecting it next week. After all the hassle the Total cost comes down to 598£ for both TV and DVD. I already have dvd player, so I am hoping to sell the DVD player on eBay for close to the cost price.

This would make the TV 598 - 149 = 449£, which i tink is a very good price for this TV.

MANY THANKS to the OP. I had my eye on this TV for a while and never thought that i could get it for this price.

Ring JL and ask for the price match or print the currys deal off and take into your local store.
#26
No go for me, now they've quoted on the bundle but won't give the £200 trade-in. Have tried to see if they'll budge on the phone but the price matching department won't allow it. Good deal for those who got it though, cheers OP.

Please accept my apologies for any confusion in this matter.

I can confirm that I am happy to match the Currys price of £798 for the Sony Bravia KDL40HX803 television (John Lewis Product code - 82450206) and Sony BDP-S480 Blu-ray player (John Lewis Product code - 85840115).

It is my understanding that Currys do offer free recycling of your old television, however, Currys do not offer a £200 trade-in discount on this television package. This means that we will match the Currys price of £798 regardless if you dispose of your old television or not.

If you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Kind regards,

John Lewis.com

Well it's looking quite good for me!! Today I did as wh431 did and rang saying I had a price match code and asked if they could go through exactly just what happens. After some confusion they agreed the total was £1,047.95. I then asked about the trade in and they asked if Currys also offered the trade in - of course I said they did. After some deliberation they said that took it down to £847.95.

I then asked what the refund would be upon delivery of the goods and they agreed it was £249.95!!!!

As wh431 suggested, I requested they make a note of this on my quote to avoid any confusion when I placed the order.

I then left it until 10.30pm and rang back, got a girl who read my notes and confirmed the refund was £249.95 - so I've ordered it. Blu-ray arrives sometime next week and TV June 6th.

Worst case - if the refund isn't confirmed as the £249.95 then it can all just go back to my local store under the Distance Selling Regs.

If all goes well - then as wh431 - my dvd player will end up on ebay and I've bagged a cheap telly.

Thanks again to the original poster and all that have replied
#28
Well my tv is here and looking good so far. My friend ordered the wifi dongle to get online services. He said he ordered it from CEX for £30. Cheaper than Amazon I guess and as I'm buying the TV, transmitter and glasses, whats another £30.

Thanks again OP.

Has anyone got this set up with the 3d transmitter? If I wall mount the tv above eye level and stick the transmitters on the top, will it still sent the 3d signal?

Hi monkey nuts 2

Thanks for the info on settings - there sure is a lot of reading on that site!

Received my unwanted Blu-ray yesterday and haven't even opened the plastic packaging. Now waiting for the TV on Monday.

All going well - I will hopefully get my £249.95 credit card refund and then I'm going to try and take the Blu-ray back to Lewis's for a full refund. As it's unopened I'm hoping they will be fine with it.

If it works - that makes the TV £449 (with a 5 year warranty) which is a stonking bargain. This post should have more heat

Try posting on AV forum for your query on the 3D transmitter set up. They are very helpful over there.

I thought of the same thing but I am not sure if they will simply accept it for full refund, as the price was matched based on the 'Package deal'. If they do it will be great, as i think we wont be able to sell it on ebay for the full price of 149£.

Let us know if you are succesful, so that we can do the same.

BTW: Waiting to get my TV on sat and now looking for a matching TV stand. Any suggestions?

Ordered this about a couple of days ago and just received a letter in the postfrom jl telling me they were not honouring my price match, and i paid for the tv, but they have not taken it our of my account. :(

Not a happy customer, and i will taking this further.

I tried to price match and they would only honour the £798 not the extra £200 off as Currys do not give £200 back on this specific set, only 4 specific models.
#37
I've been shafted royally. After agreeing the price of £599 over the phone, receiving the tv and selling the bluray player, JL haven't refunded me the correct amount. Not happy.

Have to wait until Monday now for a call back.
#38
Monkey nuts 2 - that's a real bummer. I assume you'll play bloody hell with them on Monday. Although why do they tell you to wait for a call back? As I thought the orders team were there until almost midnight today?

I assume you have only got the £50 price match from £847.95 to Currys £798?

Did you only find this out today by checking your credit card statement?

I ask this I as I thought when you rang to tell them you were happy with the TV etc and to invoke the price match - they told you there and then what they would credit back to your card.

Now I'm getting worried, as if they do this to me then I will take the TV and Blu-ray back for a full refund. But, then they have already taken our old TV and we are stranded without any TV.

I'm hoping they will realize they will lose more than the £249.95 full price match on having to then sell the TV and Blu-ray as used.
#39
Well if they refuse to pay, I'll take legal action as they agreed the price and conditions, dispatched the goods amd then effectivly overcharged me.

Shocking behaviour for such a reputable company.

The problem you're going to have is that they have matched the price .. i.e. £798 for the package.

Currys are not doing the £200 Sony cashback on this set, so I don't know whether JL are now obliged to also give you the £200 discount as this is not part of the deal they are matching.

Will be interesting to see where you stand, and I can see your frustration...
