Packing in an extraordinary specification for the price, the Sony KDL-40L4000 is set to be an instant success.

At the heart of this Full HD Sony LCD TV is a group of picture enhancements that make for class-leading vision. As you'd expect, the Sony features a 1080p, 6.2 Mega Pixel resolution screen with 24p True Cinema - for picture scanning as smooth as the movies. Little needs to be said about BRAVIA as its reputation for vivid colour, low noise and smooth motion precedes it. The BRAVIA ENGINE featured here gives stunningly realistic results and a contrast ratio of 33,000:1

Despite offering excellent value for money, the Sony KDL40L4000 comes with a comprehensive range of sockets. Twin HDMI sockets cater for High Definition sources such as Blu-ray and HDTV. For other auxiliaries there are two SCART sockets, component and S-Video inputs. If you want to use the Sony TV as a monitor for you computer, then the standard PC Input allows the TV to become a dual use device.

True to form, the KDL40L4000 benefits from Sony's understated good looks. The anti-reflective matt black frame blends well with most decors.

For a top value BRAVIA 1080p 40" TV, the Sony KDL40L4000 takes some beating.

To me 'INSTORE ONLY' usually means ZERO stock.

At least that's what I associate Richer Sounds with..
Sainsburys are selling these for £599.99 at the moment, They usually have stock aswell due to the fact most wouldn't think to look in there for a tv.

Richer do not deliver TVs (or to be accurate I was quoted "about £75 if you really insist" in the Sheffield store), hence in-store only.

Also £599.99 at Amazon with free delivery. However, VAT may be reduced tomorrow...
u in the last means the lowest in that category.

As far as I am aware the 'u' states UK model and not bottom line.
I think Sainsburys are selling the 'v' series. I'm not sure if it's better or worse than this one.

I think this 'L' model is better than the V IIRC.

I bought one of those KDL32V400U models on offer at JLP last week (£329 inc 5yr warranty), and am pretty sure the KDL32L4000U would've been a step up.
The "L" is older than the "V", the difference between the 2 is the "V" has 3 hdmi and a nicer imo bezel in piano black. Other than that they use the same panel and perform the same, im holding out for a "V" as they have been retailed before at £599
Apart from being a piano-black gloss finish on the "V" (matte black on the "L") the "V" bezel is narrower. show the "V" at £999, the "L" at £899. The "V" also has a few more sound modes.

As it happens my wife hates shiny surrounds so the "L" will do. Just waiting for the VAT reduction to kick in. ;-)
The Amazon price for the KDL-40L4000 has now dropped to £532 so the Richer deal has cooled off a lot.

And mine's ordered. :-D
