Hi guys,

Seen their advert in my local Herts Advertiser. Couldn't believe my eyes first. This is by far the cheapest i have seen this Sony TV advertised anywhere.

I rang them today, was told they will honour the advertised price from Boxing day.

I am torn between the Panasonic 37' they are selling for £499 with 5 years pana warranty or this Sony 40' LCD Bravia TV with 5 Years warranty. Its doing my head in :)

RS is literally 5 minutes from where i live, but they offer their own warranty, they will give me a tenner off if i ask them to pricematch. but, with Sony warranty from Hispek, i guess its worth paying a tenner more.
#7
wow hispek is a sony warranty ? wowee, do we know how many they have in?
#8
bought from them before, very poor customer service and did not honour warranty going through legal route for them to honour the warranty
beware

No, its definitely mail order as well, i need the 32' lcd model KDL32V4000 for my father, they have advertised for £349 with 5 years warranty again Boxing day offer. Since, he lives in Cambridge he can only buy it mail order and have it delivered. I confirmed this while i was in their store. :santa:

Just so you know Richer sounds are doing that 32 inch set for 299 from boxing day. 5 year warranty would be 29 quid more.

Goin to RS on Boxing Day, should i leave it and get the 40? My missus is already goin mad:oops:
#17
Go for the Panasonic - plasma far better.
#18
That's a great price. My sis has been waiting for a good deal on this exact model; today she got offered £720 at the Sony Centre for one of these with a free PS3 + cable (worth £50 she said?) + 5 year warranty. She'll probably get this one now though, as not much of a gamer ;)

Wow, £299 is tempting price, but again the warranty could be a deal breaker for me. RS warranty or Sony warranty for £20 quids more!!!! i'll defo pass it on to my dad, its his money in the end!!! thanks for the update though, appreciate it.

read cracking reviews on panny but when watched both tellys side by side at currys sony came up better in my eyes
#21
I am torn between this sony and TH42PZ81B. I was prefering sony because of its price in john lewis 587 GBP. I was hoping that they might reduce on the boxing day and then I came across the panasonic for 731 GBP on sale. (I guess it is ex-display). I have already paid for the panasonic and having second thoughts because for the same money i could get the home cinema systems as well.
Voted hot for sony!
#22
Is it me but is the online price £619, I can see on the pdf of offers that the price should be £499? Might be the xmas spirit? ;-)
#23
Please don't buy that ****** KDL 32V4000. I saw it in Dixons/Currys a couple of days ago and it didn't even come close to the Samsung 4-Series next to it. Trust me, the colours are washed out and the image is too soft. You might be able to change these settings at home, but I doubt it'll make much difference.

Go to PC World or Currys and get yourself the 1080p 32LG7000 for £350 like I am doing.

sorry 4 askin stupid question where on the site does it mention sony warranty?

Horses/courses. For games and media centre I went LCD, for just SD/DVD/BD go plasma.
#26
i read on a review for the sony V4000 series that they have a samsung panel inside them, cause sony could make thier own panel quick enough to keep up with the LCD market so then went out and made a deal with samsung.
i say stay away from the V4000 series, i am not sure about the W4000 series thou.
it may look miles better than a CRT or the very first Flat Screen out but will be good enough for Real Blu Ray and DVD's is what you should consider and how its comparing with other LCD's in the same price range.
for the record most retailers have this or will have this on offer very very soon.

From experience games are far better on my Panasonic (42") plasma.

Lets just dispell some theories, i currently own this tv and can asure the broadcast instore at the likes of currys and such like does not represent what the telly can do. This can be said from every other manufacturer to, they use vivid settings on all boxes which are settings you would not use at home.

What i have found the tv is very good from a distance of 6ft and above viewing sd any nearer and you can see imperfections due to scaling, as for football i have not seen any motion blur or comet trails on the football which dispells the theory you need to have 100 hz?

Its a nice telly at a nice price if they have any, im sure you will not be dissapointed

I have this TV, I have SKY+ through SCART, DVD through Component, 360 and PS3 through HDMI, and it is a great TV! Highly reccomended!
#31
i got the v3000 from empire direct few months back for £566 so this for £500 is an absolute bargain

amazing TV, especially with a PS3

you cant compare TVs side by side in stores because they haven't adjuster the settings properly for each of their TVs, so its kinda misleading judging the TVs on the spot

every source you use requires a different setting one for hdmi, one for scart etc

once you get the TV home you manually change them cause the factory ones just look horrific and then you get the true picture from the TV

HOT from me
#32
Hot but not 100hz so just something to consider on weather to wait on the LCD price crash remember we are only at the beginning of sale season
#33
Hot deal, just purchased £499 wiith free delivery - price now £499 on website
#34
was going to say thought this started boxing day , its on there now !
#35
I'm still not convinced on the warranty most of these manufacturer extensions are in store only as a bonus to independents definitely the case with the Panasonic top and bottom of the overview tab page
........5 Year Warranty*
* In Store Promotion

The page for the Sony has next to nothing in the overview tab, but at the bottom of the Full details tab

* In Store

Are you 100% certain you were watching the two tvs displaying the SAME SOURCE ?
Because this is obviously CRUCIAL and will make ALL the difference (and actually the settings too will make MUCH more difference than you give them credit for): watching a Blu-Ray disc vs watching some freeview picture - there's no comparison, and Currys / Dixons are notorious for having most of their nice tellies BADLY set-up and usually connected to dross (picture-quality-wise) as opposed to something like a Blu-Ray player!

I like both companies, but I would be surprised the day a Samsung beats a similarly specced Sony.

40 foot. Yasss. Don't think will fit in my bedroom. I already have the 40 inch KDLW4000 :-D
