I have been searching online for this TV & BRDP at a good price and this is the very best deal I can find at the moment, I purchased my package today and was very impressed with the service offered by M&S when placing my order over the phone.

I work in electronic retail and even with my discount could only get this package for £756.98!!

Most of the deals you will see for this package on this site are expired, this is valid til christmas eve!!! Don't waste your money on the every day high street electrical stored and give M&S a go!!

Interesting, I've had a 40v4000 on order from M&S for over 3 weeks. I got a mail yesterday saying they are not going to be able to fulfil the order until early December yet they now have this offer listed!
#2
5 year warrenty as standard from M&S super...

I was in Sony Centre on the weekend (just to look at the tv working, not to buy) and they had this same combo (same model) for £799 including a 'special' managers discount of an extra £100.

The TV did look very nice indeed with Cars playing on the Blue ray and I could hardly see any difference between the 40v4000 and the better model costing £1200.
#4
Get on to em mate, they owe you a free blu ray player!! This TV has excellent reviews and feature wise is in line with models costing 2 times as much.

Which was the other model as I think you'd notice quite a difference if it was a 100Hz model with the right content!

I didnt look at the model but it was £1200 and also 40". The two tvs were on top of each other so easy to compare and I stood switching from one to the other for about 5 mins. I could see the more expensive one was better but not by much and could only tell because they were so close together. I really dont think that it was worth 40% (ish) more price than this one.

I am very tempted now to just order this now, but I know there will be some mad cheep deals on in the coming weeks.

Don't forget you can get 5% Quidco to shave a few more ££'s off the price!

I have to admit that I had a 40X3000 and spent some time researching and comparing what was available and I would say that you'll know a 100Hz set from others. It's a lot more money though but I did think it was worth it until I had to send it back because of a noisy fan! The main difference to be fair is watching HD content and fast moving action like football where the difference is 'very' noticeable. To be fair it depends on you budget, how long you'll be keeping the set and what content you'll be viewing if its worth it but your right to view before buying. Don't just accept the standard feed though, try different sources to get a taste of what you'd expect at home!

Hot deal:thumbsup: Dont think you`ll get a better deal than this one with 5 year guarantee.. I just bought the tv from JL when it was £599 Great tv. .Been checking the price of it this week and couldn`t see it for £599 anywhere! Most places were £699 and more JUST FOR THE TV.
#10
seems like a great deal. Very HOT
#11
Excellent deal. I was shopping around for a new TV a few months ago and this is one of the ones I was considering. I eventually went for a nice plasma, but this is a great deal considering that the TV alone cost around £1000 only a few months back.
#12
This is a hot deal. The S350 is an excellent BR player - had one for 2 months now. DVD upscaling is good and load times are quick vs older BR players, especially if you use the "quick start" option.

I've got one of these TV's on order, although I'm having second thoughts because of the bad reviews I have read about it. I will only be using Sky+ SD and Xbox 360. I have read that the SD is not very good and that there is bad smearing when using the Xbox and playing games like COD4. I will be paying £627 which includes a 5 year guarantee
#14
I was thinking of a new tv as mines on the way out, not sure what to get to get tho....like the last post really, havent upgraded to skyHD yet so would be using it for sd only for a while, getting an xbox360 for xmas too so if this tv isnt great with those things then not much point paying out for it.
#15
Interesting deal esp with the 5 year guarantee and a blu ray player.
Calling all TV experts!
What model is better the KDL40V4000 or Samung LE40A656?

I think between the 2 you are better off getting the KDL40W4500.

This has had nothing but excellent reviews and rewards

Cheapest I can find this is for about £869 and you maybe even be able to quidco it!

Good reviews here and here.

Summary

The Sony KDL40V4000 is an aesthetically pleasing, affordable HDTV which puts out a very pleasing image, due largely in part to its fantastic calibrated black level. Colours are relatively accurate, and although it wasn’t possible to fully calibrate the display, the “Warm2″ greyscale preset will still please many. Gaming, too, was fantastic fun, thanks to the almost non-existent input lag.

A very slight forced sharpening of 1920×1080 feeds, underwhelming standard-def video processing, and a lack of user-accessible Greyscale control were a touch disappointing, but at the end of the day, the Sony KDL40V4000 ticks the most important boxes for High-Def users. It doesn’t redefine what we’ll all expect from a mid-range display, but on the whole it’s a solid, good-looking, affordable choice.
Conclusion

The 40V4000 is a fine budget/mid range performer from Sony although its relatively high price pushes it into an area of serious LCD competition from the likes of Samsung and Panasonic. Sony does classy conservative styling better than anyone else and this may just swing the balance in its favour for some of you.

Does anyone think deals like this will get any better after Xmas or is it worth a punt now?

I never even thought about the KDL40W4500 model !!, now i am torn bigtime , thanks for the link, you may well have saved me getting the wrong lcd mate.
I cant reccomend the bravia lcd TV's enough , I have had the U series from the day it was launched a few years ago now, it's been brill!!
#23
Quite a price difference between £699 with BR player and £869 without. I suppose it depends on your max budget and whether or not you still need/intend to buy a BR player (or PS3). You should always get the best screen your budget will allow in my opinion, though.

Okay to make matters worse then why not look at the new KDL40Z4500!!! 200Hz Motionflow!!

The W4500 has 100Hz. Sony just had to kick it a nickel! Its new out though so I've yet to see an reviews on it

Spec is here: http://www.sony.co.uk/article/id/1223049869474

Cheapest I seen this is £1369 but I'd imagine this will gradually drop too. But then again its always the case with technology!
#25
i dont see the blu ray player with this on the link???

sorry i do now... my bad

Anyone looking to buy a TV or any electronics should buy now! The dollar is 1.55, after christmas you will see goods from China (all transactions done in US dollas) rising in retail price by 25-40%. I wish the press would get on this asap, rather than scare mongering and telling people not to spend...... Mark my words!

5% quidco
BR player worth about £150 on resale...

Hot deal!

I'm thinking this. I'm well tempted to get this, the DVD player alone is £160. 1080p TV as well. Hot deal but would hate to see it drop to £600 next week!

Whats the picture like on standard TV with this TV? Especially for football games

You say above that you have had this TV on order with M&S in excess of 3 weeks however you replied to another thread relating to John Lewis on 28/10 as below (only 2 weeks ago)

grayslick
I'm chasing this TV too. I spoke to John Lewis on Monday and they reckon they are getting 1900 units delivered to their warehouse over the next couple of weeks:-D

Slightly confusing me, how can you have had this on order for 3 weeks if you were only thinking of getting it from JL 2 weeks ago??

And im sure there will be a very good explanation for your contradiction.

I saw it on display in currys today and TBH the quality was very good on analogue, but you will always get different opinions.

I doubt you will get a better deal next week as Sony have stopped funding with the retailers such as comet who were selling it at 599.00 plus 99.00 for the BDP-S350 last week.

Bite the bullet! :-D

Blu Ray is a dying and already partly obsolete format.

Downloads and memory cards are the way to go....

Perhaps but i'm not so sure. I think there is a market for both.

I used to think that the download market was the way to go however, Blu Ray's are like 24GB and the time it would take to download the movies and then theres storage to think about. What happens if the HDD breaks? I guess you could say that about discs but one disc breaking over a whole collection of movies on a HDD?

It's likely downloadable content will take over, just like MP3's really but I cant see it being more popular for 3-5 years yet. And this Blu Ray is an upscaler right? So should make old DVD's even better.

Half the people I know have no idea on how to download movies or transfer different files or convert something to another format. They rather just go to the shop and buy it.

How are Blu Ray sales doing? I for one now I very tempted to get this deal, seriously can anyone find a better LCD for the size, money, spec and free blu ray player?

My main concern is that its not 100hz or something? Is that a big deal? Also what it looks like whilst playing standard TV. I'd hate it if the players on the football pitch looked really blurry.

Have some rep and heat mate! :)

Thanks mate, I think 100hz would make a difference to watching football etc as blurring would be more reduced. However its a 1080p sony LCD with some fantastic features for less than £700 with a blu ray and 5 year garra!

I know I will be happy watching blu ray movies all night long...

Ive also signed up for love films unlimited 3 package which includes blu ray so I dont have to buy any til they come down in price.

Can anyone confirm what its like watching normal TV on these? Does sport look average? Is it worth getting a plasma? When looking at TV's the Plasmas do look deeper in colour?! or is it just me?

No doubt it perfect for Blu Ray :D

Be careful if you're in stores like Dixons, they set up their TVs in odd ways, or sometimes just leave them on default settings. LCDs and Plasmas really need calibrated from the box. The Sony and Panasonic official stores usually do a better job, depending on the people that work there, but they tend to have them showing HD material to show them at their best!

Plasmas do tend to handle motion better and have deeper blacks, yes. The best tend to be better with SD, too, esp the 720p screens as less upscaling is involved. But as always, there are bad plasmas and good plasmas just as there are good LCDs and bad LCDs. You can't really go wrong with Panasonic's plasmas from a price perspective, though.

Am thinking about this one and am concerned about the football on an LCD ...

Do you think this offer will really stay until Christmas Eve at this price?
Does anyone know if they have stock available?

Its hard to give a definitive answer mate, I know Sony are slowing down funding on these items at the moment and Comet & DSGi have already lost funding on them. Looks like whoever Marks & Spencer get their stock from are still been funded otherwise the margin on these items at this price will be crippling them!

They will more than likely end the offer when their funding ends

[FONT="Arial Black"]this is £599 at richer sounds another £100 cheaper! or if you want the 5yr warrenty £659 .....
