Following on from the KDL-40v3000, the Sony KDL-40v4000 offers enhancements in both sound and vision.

At the heart of this Full HD Sony LCD TV is a group of picture enhancements that make for class-leading vision. As you'd expect, the Sony features a 1080p, 6.2 Mega Pixel resolution screen with 24p True Cinema - for picture scanning as smooth as the movies. Added to this, Sony has given the KDL40V4000 Live Colour Creation and, of course, the latest version of their famous BRAVIA engine, BRAVIA 2. Live Colour Creation delivers a 30% improvement to the colour palette giving more accurate colour, especially with subtle details such as flesh tones. Little needs to be said about BRAVIA as its reputation for vivid colour, low noise and smooth motion precedes it. Needless to say, BRAVIA 2 works its magic here, too, and the KDL-40V4000's picture is captivating. In addition to the BRAVIA upgrade, the latest 1080p Sony LCD also features ACE (Advanced Colour Enhancer). Together these technical improvements give a stunning contrast ratio of 33, 000:1 - more than double that of the previous model.

I think this model is about 3 generations old which I expect why they are getting rid of them. It's a good deal nonetheless though.

i bet that when you go to store - its gonna be empty despite the fact that they show it on the website....cold from me as richers sounds sucks these days...online offers are never instore or when you eventually go there, they say they can't find it but they may offer you different tv for "only" 100 quid more...:whistling:

These are good TVs, bit ropey on the inbuilt SD and I found the motion handling to be wanting a touch with static images beautiful but noticeable loss in detail when moving. Sold mine, bought a 720p plasma, couldn't be happier with SD, HD is sharper on this but as I say the motion loses to plasma. These are now a couple of years old but this is a great price if you can forgive it's shortcomings.

1080 * 1920 = 2,073,600 pixels

Doesn't it?

We had this at the old student house (landlord bought it), absolutely fantastic set. He only bought it about 12 months ago from Fenwicks, so I don't think it's that old a model.
#10
it also says "Some may be ex-display at this price."

got this TV for £600 at M&S about 1,5 years ago, great TV but as described, is a few generations old now. Still, great TV - had no probs with mine and the picture is fab. Only 50Hz though!

As others have said, this Bravia 2 is older tech now plus Sony bring out new models all the time so the stores need to clear old stock I guess?!? The price is good but the 40KDLW5810 I got last month (Bravia 3 with Freesat HD) was only £430 with 5yr warranty at M&S as such I'd say its not "stupidly" cheap
#15
It is a really good price, thus a Hot deal, but the picture quality isn't all that to write home about.

£400 for a 40" 1080p Sony Bravia isn't bad. If that's your budget and you like LCD, give this a whirl.

Why not just say what you mean "this is LCD its crap and my super expensive LED is better, but then again, I am much richer than you!" :p

That sounds like a really good deal in itself. Was this deal posted on the site (I can't find it)? I don't see the model on M&S website.:?

Nice deal.........

nice deal

hot from me, great find :)

Knew I meant to mention something. I know the sound on LCDs is crap compared with old TVs, mainly because there's less space for speakers in the slimline casings. However no amount of playing with the sound settings improved the sound from this for me. Not so much the quality or volume, but I used to find it very difficult to listen to speech, something that I've not found a problem with any other set.

Perhaps bad set?!?! The KDLw5810 I have certainly needs a home cinema set as the bass is crap, however, for everyday viewing its fine

damn all these tvs 32-42 inch just appearing on HUKD but none of them have 100hz which is something ive been looking for

only want to pay up to £450 Inc shipping or a visit to store if local

if you dont mind the tv being an older engine and not 100hz its a good deal for a tv of that size, possibly good as a second tv for another room

It was, perhaps its expired and deleted?!? It was a cracking deal (love the TV!) but I was using it to illustrate that Sony's seem to be reduced alll over the place at the moment so this is perhaps not as hot as you might think

By all accounts its better to turn 100hz off anyway, I can't say that I've seen a huge difference yet either with or without it on

Yeah it seems to be some tv's do it far too heavy, if you put it on low it works quite good and its nice for sports and movies from what ive saw and heard. I watch a ton of sports on a crap old 32inch and i get ghosting and motion blur on almost every person on that tv :x

I might have to accept defeat and just take a tv without it lol

2007 model and not brilliant then (according to what I read). THe 37 inch W series - for a hundred more - a few deals up is better value IMO.

Then again, if you've only got 400 to spend and are not too **** about picture quality then why not?

That was this deal which was a misprice so not really a proper comparison. Kudos on getting one, they are still generally going for about £650.

This TV was released around August 2008 and was considered a very good mid range Sony.

got mine 1 1/2 years ago from robert whytes with a fantastic tv stand for £1000 and 5 years waranty although if you break it down, the tv cost around £500 at most s the tv stand was meant to cost £1000 on its own.

a great tv which you can swivel the screen around if it isnt going on the wall, a usefull feature my toshiba tv's dont have

Blimey you got a great deal, I would have asked them to keep the stand and taken the TV for nothing :p

Had this tv for about 18 months for my media center / gaming PC. Absolutely awesome. The only letdown is that SD quality isn't as good as the plasma sets at the time, but as I use my PC to decode SD images and perform scaling, its not an issue. Black levels are superb still, sound is decent (for an LCD) and blu rays look fantastic. tiny amount of screen judder, but hardly noticable.

And most importantly for gaming, less than 10ms delay on input. Better than most current panny plasmas ;)

I bought this a year ago in Dec 2008 sale. At the time it was £500 in Richer Sounds and £600 in Comet. Richer's sold out pretty fast but I got Comet to price match it. So a year later, it is being sold for £400 is to expected, it is pretty old model now. It has only 50Hz and fast action, SD and blacks are poor imo. HD is very good as long as it is not fast action. I would suggest buy a W series or better so you have 100Hz or more if you can afford a little more money. If not then then this will do a great job for 80% of the time.

I disagree. Go in their stores and they will
tell you which stores have stock. The site always say if stock
is low and suggest ringing first. You are always invited to give
your views to the owner. I think they are a great store and do
what they say they will do VERY well. I have never been
pressured to buy what I did not want but then you can always
say "No thanks"

I reserved one of these and just went to pick it up. The girl I spoke to in the shop said the reviews she had read (prior to me coming in) were that sound quality was poor and although great for picture for HD was showing up very poor for normal TV. She suggested I looked at a plasma (same price, same size) as it would be much better if I had no plans to upgrade to Sky HD etc. Any views on this?

I sense another LCD vs Plasma debate coming....
#37
damn none in stock in the Liverpool store

I work for a printable electronics technology center and we have a couple of OLED TV's in the office. They are leaps and bounds ahead of LCD.
