That's incorrect. It's any TV irrespective of condition or if it works.

if you read from the top you'll see that the third poster implies that you have to TRADE IN a TV of 26" or higher. the subsequent posts, including the one you're are enquiring about, are pointing out that it is the TV that you PURCHASE that has to be 26"...or higher....

See if your missus can wangle me a 100hz 37" or 40", weve got quite a big living room but 50" would look ridiculous

just taken a look on their site and you do get the 5 year warranty on it

Very Good deal. I got 2 of the 40w5500 at £500 each @ John Lewis and they are very good. The only difference between 40V5500 and 40W5500 is Motionflow (100hz) which I have turned off anyway. Plus you get 5 years warranty, The only downside is the Piano Black finish, everything seems to finished in that cr*p now, it scratches way too easily, I wiped mine with a microfibre cloth and its scratched allready, but its no different to a Laptop I have, or the PC monitor. I am going to start a campaign to encourage manufacturers to stop using Gloss Black, its utter rubbish and looks pants in my opinion, bring back matt black.

You might be surprised how small a 37 seems after a while. I'm relatively happy with my 42, but keep wondering if I shouldn't have gone a little larger...

Obviously depends how far away you sit etc, but you do adjust. (to the point if I go somewhere with a 28-32" it just looks ridiculously small now)

Sounds like a great deal - I have phoned through to John Lewis this morning and am waiting for them to come back to me to confirm the price match - they said they have to actually go into store to check so may not come back to me for a few days!

What almost everyone forgets is that when watching a DVD/Blu-Ray movie the aspect ratios inevitably leave you with black bars at the top and bottom. Making your 'big TV' seem annoyingly too small! :x It's fine if you just watch normal telly predominantly because that is almost always broadcast in 16:9 (perfect fit).

I just wish someone had pointed that out to me when I was buying my 42" plasma. Staff at John Lewis actually thought it was too big for my room and viewing distance and suggested I'd be happier with a 32". :p

That's very right. I had to get rid of my old 37 tv after I bought a blu-ray, only because it had no zoom function thus 1/2 of the screen was black on movies.
I got sony 40w5500 and what I do now is zoom in to get the movie to fit the screen.

What I can't understand is why don't blu-ray player offer some kind of zoom or fit the screen format by default.

That is not what they have done with me. I gave them print outs of the deal I wanted to match (which was in store as well as online) and the telephone numbers of a couple of branches of the competitor and they just accepted it, presumably because of the "proof" I supplied. They did go away, to telephone I thought at the time, but upon their return they said they had not bothered but had been required to have a manager sign off on the price match. That was Oxford Street.

I had a non LCD Sony over 10 years ago with 100hz so why are they now making TVs with only 50hz ?

Agreed. I've got the 46W5500 and hardly ever turn on the Motionflow (100Hz), which is the only differentiator between the V5500 and W5500 series. When you're watching films / TV serials, then using Motionflow is not recommended. The only potential interest of Motionflow is for watching sports. I never watch sports on TV so I really could have saved some dough and gone for the V5500.

it was at a lower price on the Richer sounds website (but said only available instore) so I quoted the lower price when I phoned John Lewis and they called me back later in the day to confirm!

Great Deal - but it's actually £719 at John Lewis if you trade an old telly.
#38
I got the TV last week (fitted nicely in the 7 seater!) - had to collect as they wanted to charge, not too much bother as i had to drop the old tv anyway!...
VERY PLEASED WITH THE TV!! :w00t:
Easy to set up..and when you register the tv online sony have great power saving tips and GREAT help with correct set up!!.
i have run surround sound through and linked the remote for the tv - it now controls surround via TV -easy!

It looks great and iam very happy with picture quality,design...i actually cant fault it!!

Friend of mine has just gone and ordered the 200hz version - i saw that one and i dont think the extra £500 is worth it!!

/good luck with ordering - and remember they take any tv - working or not (get to the dump and offer £10 for a broven old tv!!)

So youve completely missed the point of the thread, price is achieved by matching to Richer sounds?
Did you read the original post?
