Looking for a Sony LCD and found this on the Richer Sounds Website. Potential to be even cheaper with £100 trade-in which they now do!

PS do please tell me why i shouldnt go for it if it is a poor deal - thanks!

The Sony KDL40V5500 offers luxury features that, until now, have only been found in higher priced TVs.

At the heart of this 40" Full HD Sony LCD TV is a group of picture enhancements that make for class-leading vision. As you'd expect, the Sony features a 1080p, 6.2 Mega Pixel resolution screen with 24p True Cinema - for picture scanning as smooth as the movies. Little needs to be said about BRAVIA as its reputation for vivid colour, low noise and smooth motion precedes it. The BRAVIA ENGINE 3 featured here offers Advanced Contrast Enhancer (ACE) for stunningly realistic results and a contrast ratio of 60,000:1. Live Colour boosts reds and greens in difficult lighting conditions to give you a much more realistic picture. Finally, a light sensor system not only helps save power but makes the screen more comfortable to watch, whatever the ambient lighting conditions.

Although still no match for a separate home cinema system, the KDL40V5500 offers an improved audio system. S-Force Front Surround provides a spacious acoustic whilst Voice Zoom makes complex dialogue easier to follow. In addition to this a range of surround sound modes get the best from movies, games or sport.

From the company that brought you Blu-ray, you can not only expect the best picture compatibility but also the right selection of sockets to connect it all up. Clearly, Sony understands HDTV, which is why this new 40" 1080p Sony LCD features four HDMI sockets. Two of the sockets are mounted at the rear of the TV, while the other two are side-mounted for easy access - ideal for plugging in an HD camcorder and PS3. The Sony KDL40v5500 also has a DLNA Ethernet port for connecting the TV to the internet/computer network. Combined with "AppliCast" this takes TV on to the next generation of, web-based, program content.

Other fantastic features include a USB socket and Picture Frame mode. Simply load up your favourite photos and show them on the TV when it's switched to stand-by - just like a, very large, digital picture frame! Standard "widgets" on the AppliCast include an analogue clock display and calendar with others available online.

Finished in sleek gloss black and coming complete with a swivel stand, the Sony KDL40v5500 looks every bit as good as it performs. The ultimate 40" TV is here!

they will not give you the trade in on web price but for store price of £730

The trade in is a Sony promotion, so no reason whatsoever why you shouldn't get it.

don't shoot the messenger
Where did you hear that Richer Sounds are doing the trade-in?
They aren't listed as one of the stores participating in Oxford on the Sony site.
I’m pleased to confirm that we are indeed participating in the Sony trade-in scheme and have been involved with this promotion since Saturday 19th September.
Thanks. Now i just have to find out how much the 40W5500 is instore.
My TV broke down 2 weeks ago. I have researched LCD TV's thoroughly.
Richer Sounds WILL either honour there Web Price which means you will get this LCD TV for £599.95 or will give you the Sony Scrappage of £100 off the price they have in-store.

This LCD looks bland compared to others and also does not have that good reviews... Sony KDL40W5500 is a much better looking TV and also has the new Bravia Engine 3. This will cost best price of £799.95 less Sony Scrappage meaning you pay only £699.95.

I have gone for the Toshiba Regza 42AV635DB - 42" ONLY £499.99 from which has excellent reviews on which are reviews from owners of the T.V. but have not given it such a good review but I personally think Reevoo is better as these are people who have bought and are using the T.V. One year warranty but purchased a further 3 years extended for £55.99 (also from so 4 years in total.

Hope this helps.
This is a top TV for a not too bad price, if the £100 for an old TV trade in works to get this at 499, it's a steal! I'd get one but it's too big for my living room I fear...

Anyone got it at 499? what trade in tv's are applicable? i've got a 28" sony CRT I could use...?
Hi Mate,
Richer Sounds & Curry's are two of the companines that do the Sony Scrappage Scheme. The T.V. you are buying must be a Sony LCD but the one you are scrapping ot trading in can be any TV, any size, working or not working! Richer Sounds will honour there web price which is usually slightly cheaper than in-store or they will honour the scrappage. Scrappage is upto 37" LCD TV they will discount £50, upto 46" they will discount £100 and I think any bigger will be £150. Currys on the other hand will either allow you to pricematch whic means you find it (same model) cheaper in any store within 10 miles and they will sell it to you for that price or you can just take it for their instore price and take your TV in for the discount.
Hope this helps.

This post is misleading, you can never get it for £499. Did anyone get it for this price?
