That's is a different TV isn't it?

The KDL40W4000 seems to get consistently good reviews and I haven't seen it for this sort fo price before.

I am torn between this, the Samsung LE40A656 and the Philips 42PFL7603D.

As I said I have the 40w and it`s amazing especially if you invest in a HD box or hd/blu ray you will be very very very impressed. :w00t:

This is a much better tv than that older Sony tv.

I had also narrowed now my choice to these 3 tvs.

I found the Samsung's screen too reflective so went after the Sony. I then saw the Phillips which is 42" and looks nicer but after reading AVForums it has some serious issues (such as the weird 1080p to 1080i to 1080p conversions) so I think the Sony is the best out of the 3

Cheers for the info Mr T. I wasn't aware of the Philips TV issues, I'll go and do some more research.

I am very tempted by the Sony, but I think it would be wise to go for the 100Hz Samsung over the 50Hz Sony.I hate motion judder on LCD screens.

Its a different, lower spec'd TV but a pretty good deal if thats the model you are after.
The beauty of this deal is the price with the 5-year extended warranty (inc. delivery) is about the same as most of the cheapest online retailers without the warranty.

BTW - you'll find John Lewis are asking for £969 for a similar deal with 5-year warranty - that is about £110 more!

100hz on the samsung not that much of an advantage, have been reading reviews on the a6 and the w4000 for almost six months now. I have been saving up to buy one. i had finally decided on the samsung but then a friend bought one and i got to go round and play with it.
verdict - i was let down by the blacks on the samsung. after revisiting the reviews i now agree the sony is the best lcd on the market .

if 100hz is that important to you look at the new sony kdl40w4500 which has 100hz and 50,000 contrast ratio compared with 33,000 on the w4000. so i guessing the w4500 is going to reveiwed as the new king of lcd.

sony also have a new 40" lcd called the zf range which has 200hz available in oct, but will cost alot more than the w4500. guessing about £2000.

Thanks for the extra info cmf. I am still touring around looking for stores showing HD content on these screens near me. The Samsung looked pretty impressive at the weekend. I am already keeping a look out for the Sony kdl40w4500 and will see what the prices end up being. It'll be interesting to see if the prices of the 40w4000 are reduced when the 40w4500 arrives.

Beware of hd instore as many run off multiple connections and also sample discs go into the sony store with a proper hdmi and a "real blu ray" and if you don't stare like a demented idiot (like i did) nothing will. :whistling:

Thanks barginhunter2008. The A656 was solely hooked up to a Samsung blueray player. It was originally showing Beowulf which I skimmed through over about 10 mins and then I got them to switch the disc to Casino Royale which I then skimmed through. I was really impressed. I also managed to have a play with the 100Hz settings (on and off). I just want to go and do the same with the 40W4000 now. Thanks again!
