The deal for the 49" Sony is amazing. Was after the 55" version otherwise I'd put the trigger on this. Great find

A good buy that 49" Sony... Wish my old 40" would fail so i could buy this or my wife would kill me!

Richer Sounds have it for £599 in-store with a 6yr guarentee? - http://www.richersounds.com/product/tv---all/sony/bravia-kd49x8305c/sony-kd49x8305cbu

I googled for reviews and all seem ok/good on teh actual tv.

i know... i was looking for the 55" version as well but decided for the 49" in the end as more suitable for the room size.

Free DVD player, i want a VHS, get a grip, who the hell has DVDs now :-0 If you ask nicely, you might get a spectrum 64bit as well and some end of date fish as it Coop, a FOOD SHOP!!!!

Great TVs these. The Android OS opens up so many avenues. Kodi/Showbox etc. My Apple TV and Android box are now redundant. Even my Freesat recorder does not get used

I grabbed the Sony 4K. TCB also has 5.25% cashback on Sony TVs, so that's about £29 back. Pretty happy with that.

remember that these don't have HDR

Still trying to get my head around HDR. Am I correct in thinking that if I just use Freesat/ Freeview and don't watch "DVD/BlueRay/Modern Equivalents" or Netflix I'm not going to be receiving HDR content anyway?

I've got a 32" 2010 Bravia which, horror upon horror, isn't even 4k. Which is fine for my viewing, but I'm not sure what, if anything, I'd gain holding out for HDR at this time.

But happy to be educated on the matter :3

I have the previous model to this TV w705, great picture and rated one of the best for image quality. what Hi fi rated the wd65 the best picture they have seen 5 star rating. This is not android but the standard smart TV, you still get YouTube and Netflix. Still good deal

Old hat or not, the price for the spec is good for a 4k TV and not everyone wants the latest tech at the higher prices! Wait, sure, but for how long before your "new tech" is also out of date and you say the same, etc., etc..... it#s a balance of price, quality and when and anything bought nowadays is old hat as soon as you buy it.....

I work in media, FHD is far from "finished". The majority of service in the UK are still SD.

http://stakeholders.ofcom.org.uk/binaries/research/infrastructure/2015/downloads/evolution-tv.pdf

There's a number of technical complexities to overcome because we can ever begin to talk about HD, led alone 4K as a standard viewing standard.

With regards to this deal, my comment was aimed at the person claiming this was a poor deal because it came with a free DVD player, while I don't use DVD's too often, I do still use them for my children.

Rather I see the DVD player as something to flog and reduce to cost of the Tv marginally.

4k is already here. BT 4k box , nvidia shield, Netflix, Amazon TV, Sony ps4 and 4k mobile phone, Microsoft xbox all should be stupid to make 4k products according to you . Before they used to think like that for 64 bit processors when 32 bit was the norm. Now all cpu are 64 bit. Or before that the earth is flat . The main thing is 4k can play 1080p and not the other way round. 4K picture quality is very good even on a cheap 4k tv. Even 1080p looks better on 4k screen.

8k is not a standard. 4k is already a standard. If you live in stone age then no one can help you. There is no marketing, as it is available to common people like me now. If you don't want to believe the truth, then no one is forcing you.

Thats because theres NO difference. Your eyes CANNOT see any more pixels!!!! Like standing lokking at a tree, you dont see all the little bugs in the bark, same with a tv, you CANNIT see the difference between 1080p and 4k, its stupid and a money spinner, more is better so i will pay more because my brain hasnt evolved as fast as marketing talk has! Your EYES CANNOT TELL THE DIFFERENCE, contrast, colour and over factors make a tv look sharper, NOT the pixel density once it goes past 1080p!!!!

You wouodnt see the pixels on a 1080p 75 inch tv 2 metres away, so yes, you can answer most thing with science, but not this one, 4k might be great for a lab 4k 150 inch tv when your 0.5metres away looking at molecules, yes, but not for watchibg coronation street or a blu ray, not at all. Cased closed, back to your lab!

It's my understanding that HDR will only really work with content that is produced specifically to use it. Although a lot of smart TVs now try to "upscale" whatever you input. For example they might try to 'upscale' 1080p input to 'sort-of-4k'. it obviously isn't as good as proper 4k. I reckon a similar thing will happen (if at all) for HDR.

I'm only interested in HDR because the PS4/ Xbox One S now support HDR content, otherwise i doubt it'd make much noticeable difference!

That "upscaling" thing is pure bullschwit. They claimed that blu-ray players were going to upscale your DVD's to "near HD quality" - I have yet to see a single convincing example of this happening. A safe bet the very same will apply to any claims of upscaling blu-rays to "near 4K quality". Not bashing this deal just bashing the nonsense up-scaling claim by companies.
