Hi Shauny160, its a question even i asked whether i should wait for 4K to come down or buy one now.
I will share my thoughts.
A Good decent medium 4K i wanted to buy was Sony KD55X8505 which currently is coming for 1299
But that means its around 600 more than this TV.
Technology changes not by years but by Days now.
And my learning is, buy Medium range and pay not very high and use it for 3-4 years and then switch again.
Sony has today formally said they are launching 2015 series on Google OS but what that means is, you will be the first to use something which is new. It may be very good OR have initial teething problems

So i decided to buy this one for a good price which will easily last me next 3-4 years and then i will be bored and then i will buy a 4K model in 2017-18 for around 500 probably and would have loads of 4K content to watch instead of having a 4K now on double price and near to none content to watch

Hope this will help you in at least taking a stand

Rather than wait for 4K's to come down you should be watching for a HD OLED price to come down. I don't think 4k LED will take off with the current development of the 8K which might take over as the future standard pretty soon. 4K on a relatively slow response LED TV compared to OLED TV makes 4K LED a waste of money.

Take a good look at a 4K LED next to a HD OLED you will see what I mean. at the viewing distances for a 50 or 55 inch the HD OLED beats a 4K LED hands down every time. If you are the type that goes for the hype thinking bigger numbers are better then maybe a 4 K is for you. Personally, until I see 4K transmission quality start I'd stick with HD OLED. You'll see ALL current transmissions and media as a perfect picture.

Back to this deal. Great TV. I got the 55" version. Can't fault it apart from the standard LED motion blur on grass when watching the footy. Can't be resolved on LED's but this Sony comes close. As soon as I have the cash, it's and OLED for me.

I spoke to the sony center and got a 799 price match on the 55inch.. they said that is £29 lower than they are allowed, richer sounds said they could only price match to £829 and most people report that jonh lewis stick on a £30 delivery charge if you price with RGB.. With all this i would say £829 seems to be the trade price for 55 and won't expect to see it drop until clearance in a few months

This tv has better reviews than the Sony 4k. Apparently a better panel. I have this Tv and had the same question in my mind. I'm glad I chose this.

Got the Sony 49x8505 from RS price match at £889. V good tv and like the swipe control and social functionality. Most importantly the pictures fab.

the couple of OLEDS that are out at the moment should drop in price as LG are bringing out 4k OLEDS this year, nuts but true. you probably won't get much change from £6k for the smallest.
