Soundbar was rubbish anyways. TV is beautiful

I paid this much for the 50" for the World Cup

I'm waiting for the 60in to drop as it has active 3d

Will JL price match this?

I'm pretty sure the 50 and 55 have active 3d too.
#7
Yes they are both active. I have the 50" 829 and the picture is excellent compared to other TVs in this price range. I'm referring to the picture from a sky box not the 4k demo disks they show in the store. Bit hit and miss with the panels though. The first one I had had dead pixels and I know others have experienced bent chassis and similar issues with these TVs. Jl happy to replace no quibble. In regards to price match that's also a bit hit and miss with RGB direct. Some times they will other times they say no because RGB operate a showroom policy not store???. The inconsistency from JL with price matching is a let down in view and some what frustrating.
#8
Thanks for the info. I was under the impression the 55in has passive as a sony helpdesk operator told me so.

55in for me in that case save a few pounds :)

Bought this other day from JL store and they matched £849.00 with Sonic Direct, had call from them today confirmed the refund, Still waiting for delivery !!!

I have the 50 inch version and if you buy these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VESA-Wall-mount-Adaptor-fitting-kit-SONY-Bravia-W6-W7-W8-W9-SAF100-/251752742332?pt=UK_Sound_Vision_TV_Wall_Mounts_Brackets&hash=item3a9da1fdbc you can mount it to any mount you want. I personally own two of these http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000WL6YY8/ref=sr_ph?ie=UTF8&qid=1420300786&sr=1&keywords=tv+mount great solid mounts but will require you to put it together yourself and it is quite heavy.

Reviews say UEH6400 has better smart features but W829 has better picture (and build quality) so it depends what you are looking for.

I am using these soundbar and like them - I guess you get what you pay for - a sub 100 soundbar won't give you mind boggling output - just saying.

Is this any good for playing Doom II? oO

Presumably the picture quality is a consideration for a television?

The bracket which comes with the tv doubles as a wall mount also ( Very Clever ! ) so no need to look for any special brackets.

Been considering a Sony but with all of the retubs on here in the last few months it put me off :(

The stand provided with the TV doubles up as a wall mount and is very sturdy - comes with all the screws etc. you would need to mount the TV too.

Using its own bracket you wouldn't be able to swivel TV to left or right!

Excellent TV but cannot justify £800 for a TV. Awaiting when it drops to £600 soon.
Now voting cold.

Why voting cold - can you find it anywhere cheaper?

From what I've read, the 55" comes with the vesa adapter bolts.

I've seen 2 different 55w829 models - the one ending b has 3 hdmi ports (I think) and passive 3d. This model ending bbu has 4 hdmi ports and active 3d.

Brilliant.
So using that logic, if a car was 10k instead of 20, it would be cold just because you couldn't 'justify' it?
Get in the bin.

The 55 doesn't, you cannot wall mount this with the stand (unlike the 50").

The 55" comes with the adaptors making this a standard 300mm x 300mm vesa.

If your considering purchasing this or any other hi end 1080p set I'd wait til after ces next week as prices are sure to come down. All the dafties who don't know will want 4k sets so this should drop along with the Samsung. The Samsung has higher input lag and worse picture quality though. LG I don't know enough about.

Good advice - Just bought a 42" 829 from Amazon last week for 499 with the soundbar - if the prices do drop down I am going to send it back and get a new one - lets see.

Please excuse my ignorance but what is this ces happening next week?
Why does it lead to price drops?
Thanks in advanced.

The Sony w8 TVs are better than the equivalent Samsung due to picture and lag

The 55" and 50" TVs are actually manufactured in different places thus the screen is actually noticeably different. Good quality but the 50" has the edge over the top spec current Sony TVs for picture.

In short the 55" Samsung 2K with daft 3D appears to be better than the Sony. Both are actually quite good but the Sony 50" is just so much better, go to a shop, ideally John Lewis as they put TVs in rows next to one another and judge for yourself which is better and which you can afford.

Alternatively you can but from Sony for 891.65 as I've heard RGB DIRECT are a bit dodgy. If you are Diageo you can get 8% cashback ie 820 https://shop.sony.co.uk/shop/b2c/display/(layout=13_158_114_163&uiarea=1&rdb=0)/.do

I installed the 6400 55" for a friend and own the W829 55". The Samsung has better smart features (namely 4OD which the Sony doesn't) and you get the better remote included. The Sony is a thinner, much nicer looking TV with a smaller bezel. Give me a shout if you have any questions on either!

I was told by a Sony rep that the base is only a wall mount for up to the 50" version sadly. The 55" is too heavy apparently.
