LocationFree(TM) offers a completely new way of watching TV. Instead of going to the television set, the TV comes to you by redirecting your local TV shows to wherever you are, even if you don't have a TV with you. With LocationFree(TM), you can watch live TV, play back recorded programmes and even set up future recordings, all from a PC, laptop or PSP(TM) (PlayStation® Portable) system.* Built-in wireless technology gives you the freedom of your own home (and garden), and the Internet does the rest.
The heart of the system is the LocationFree Base Station. The process of using the Base Station over the Internet is called NetAV. In the home, the Base Station uses proprietary Sony technology, including an optimised dual-band antenna and custom software, to ensure the best possible wireless performance. When the Base Station is accessed remotely over the Internet a free Dynamic DNS (Domain Name Server) service ensures that periodic changes to a user's global IP never prevent connection to the Base Station. Once a connection is established, user privacy is ensured by a combination of security measures. Industry-standard Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) encryption is bolstered by WiFi Protected Access (WPA), which improves on the authentication and encryption offered by WEP.
Its Dynamic VBR technology allows the Base Station to monitor the available bandwidth of the broadband connection and automatically optimise the bit-rate of the AV stream for the best possible picture quality.

* Easy Automatic NetAV setup
* IEEE 802.11b/g wireless transmission
* Automatic Bit Rate Control
* NTSC/PAL input
* Secure 1 to 1 video streaming
* Colour system: PAL/ SECAM / PAL60 / NTSC
* 1 x Ethernet (RJ-45) 10BASE-T/100BASE-TX
* 2 x video / audio inputs

Good price!

Argos had these at £129.99 a few months ago, but I cannot seem to find them in their online catalogue now.

Words of warning for the interested:
Although the viewing of video content is wireless, the unit does need a wired (Ethernet) connection to your internet (ADSL) router.

...

There is a new[er] model out already in the US & Australia (I think) that does offer a fully-wireless solution:

The other option would be to encode your favorite programs and store them locally on your laptop or PSP.
I was thinking about getting this, but open wi-fi access is so crap in the UK that it is hardly worth it at the moment.
You could also just get a freeview dongle for the laptop and watch Freeview anywhere you like.

I own a slingplayer, my friend has one of these sony devices. He thinks the quality on my slingbox is better. I also have slingplayer on my '3' phone and can watch my tv on my phone when I am away from home anywhere in the world. In the UK it's part of the x-series package. Another mate in Australia watches the match on his pc in Australia from my satellite box.

Dare I ask how you pay for those data charges abroad ?!

I don't dare to use it abroad, I find wifi and my laptop come in handy for that.

There are already programmes that do this, written by linux nerds for free, a guy received TV whilst on a transatlantic flight.

Will post again once I have remembered the name, but i'm sure someone on here must know the name of it so thats why i'm posting anyway :)
