Old? It's a higher number than that on ebuyer ans it's still on sony's website:

http://www.sony.co.uk/view/ShowProductCategory.action?site=odw_en_GB&category=ICA+CD+Tuners

Most places are charging £250+ for this! Bit disappointed with the lack of heat in this one to be honest. Oh and this has a far more impressive display screen because it displays the callers name. It looks and is much more expensive than the BT2500!
#3
You're right it is about to be replaced by the BT5100. The one off ebuyer is £79.99 + 9&9 from here:

I've looked into these a bit more to see what you get for your extra money in the 5000:

The 5000 seems to have a much better screen and display, together with the ability to transfer your phonebook to it, and displays the callers name/number.
I think the 2500 just shows "phone"
Also a remote control with digits for dialling over bluetooth oon the 5000.

Depends if you think those phone features are wotrth the extra £30,
IMO yes, so added heat/

I had one of these but sold it a few weeks ago for £170. The main reason I sold it was the optional ipod adapter that comes with it is rubbish. You'll be listening to your ipod and when you go to use the car the next day it wouldn't remember where you last was on the ipod which meant scrolling through again which was a pain. This was cured by switching the ipod off before removing it which was also a pain. I now have a kenwood with the ip500 adaptor which is much better. As for the other features you can only have 50 numbers stored on it as opposed to your whole phonebook on the parrot which I now have which was also a tad disappointing, But the bluetooth handsfree was very good quality considering the mic is on the left of the unit. I only used the streaming a few times which was so so quality. It's a shame the ipod adapter let it down as I would have kept it. Hope this info helps!

The other big difference (I think) is that the MEX-BT2500 doesn't seem to have the CD/MD changer controls, whilst the MEX-BT5000 does. Since I already have a CD changer in my car the MEX-BT2500 is not much use to me!

Nice find - bought and fitted , my Parrot FM radio packed in :( - common fault
Sound quality is superb
#8
Got mines today, highly impressed! Streaming via bluetooth is awesome! Calling is fantastic is brilliant as well.
#9
is this in stock anywhere?
#10
If anyone is interested in this product, the item is cheaper (£119.99) at Halfords and comes with free fitting.
#11
No DAB. Wouldn't bother @ this price. Pish
#12
Must agree DAB really is the way forward. Won't be making with analogue tuners for much longer. What's pish?
#13
gone quite cheap considering their a standard deck + BT unit ? awesome product, saw one similiar at halfords for £250 (apart from appearance do the same job)

I think it's because they have to get it from an Argos Extra store. You can pick up from an Extra store if they are near you.

I Have 2 of these (one for a friend) it is fantastic, streaming via bluetooth is really cool. Handsfree calling is awesome cos the display says the name of the person (player can only hold 50 names for this though)
#20
So happy this finally made it to the front page, i thought there was something wrong with everyone not voting this hot, cos it's less than half the price halfords are charging! :-)

So, is eBay now your 'friend'?:whistling:

Good deal though mate, HOT.
#23
reserved this at two argos stores. Went to collect and they both gave me different sony ones that cost about £40 in the catalogue and tried to tell me that they were upgraded 2008 models!!!!!
#24
i want one of these but cant find any stock local which is very disapointing wel done to those who have managed to get one great price:)
#25
I fancy this. I have a 1996 Ford Escort with the standard stereo fitted. Will this be tricky to fit my self since I see the free installation offer on the argos website is for a different model...http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/0490517.htm#tab3

I know what you mean :-D But i've checked on ebay to see how much i could get, to be honest i don't think it's worth the effort. I am actually GENUINELY selling one to a friend at COST PRICE.
#27
Out of stock everywhere
#28
It says they are instock at 3 stores near me, when i try and reserve it then says "out of stock". Pain in the a$s
#29
Bought one of these last week; could not find any stock in north london, had to trek to Hemel Hampstead, to collect.
The bluetooth music streaming is quite impressive and receiving\making calls is great too.

Only cons i've found;

-Mic is on the left, and no external input.
-callers on the other end can hear voice when voice is going thru speakers; (echo)
- no DAB ( prob expecting too much I guess)
-Cannot move voice calls to rear speakers , only front.

Otherwise this is a great buy!!

I've hooked this up to my N95 8GB, and when streaming music via BT, and the handset goes onto standby, the music stops. This i obviously a prob with the phone.

is your stereo a cd player ? if it is you should be able to fit it yourself:thumbsup: youll need the keys to remove the old stereo
#31
Checked my nearest 20 stores, none in stock
#32
Thanks op, i managed to reserve one from Burton(20 mile trip)

bargain-pikey

There is a setting in the menu you could try adjusting that might help with this.
Go to the Phone Settings Menu and select EC/NC Mode (Echo Canceller/Noise Canceller Mode). Normal setting is 'Mode 1' however if the quality of the outgoing sound is unsatisfactory, try setting to 'Mode 2' or 'Off' - as per the operating manual page 19.

I also snapped up this radio and the sound quality is very good on handsfree calling. Another thing, if you aren't using the rear Bus Cable (for a cd multi changer unit) you can use the 'AUX In' to connect another device such as an IPOD, works a treat.

Not difficult to fit in my opinion. You will need to buy the wiring looms that convert the standard Ford leads to ISO which this Sony unit uses (Halfords sell them), then just a case of fitting the plugs together and plugging in your new stereo. Fitting the stereo cage to the dashboard was simple, just position and push the metal tabs inwards so it gets held in place. I dont know what size your original Ford Radio is, you may need to get a reducing plate for the dashboard apperture if it is a large unit like mine was, but again a doddle to fit, the reducing plate just clipped in.

I grabbed myself one of these units and I am very impressed with the quality. I have a lead coming out of the back of the stereo and into the glovebox so that I can plug my Ipod directly into the stereo. The handsfree calling audio is excellent both ways.

I do not think you will be disappointed with the Sony MEX-BT5000.

If anyone has one of these they want to sell please let me know

thanks

Would Halfords price match on this?

Like one of the other posters I managed to reserve one but when I went to pick it up it was a non-BT CD tuner in the catalogue for 49.99. In the mean time it was out of stock and the new catalogue came out which had moved on to the BT5100. I tried to persuade them that they ought to give me the new one for the same price but they didn't think that was as great an idea as I did. Good news though, they finally managed to locate one in Aberdeen and had it delivered to my local Extra store. I think it is actually a return since when I fitted it I found a David Grey CD inside - bonus!!
