Good price but play.com were throwing in the sony speaker docking station thing with it the other week for about the same price
#3
Yeah a speaker dock that was the wrong model by all accounts:roll:

Funny thing on this is the 4GB is £79 and the 2GB is £99:giggle:
#4
But a speaker dock that goes on Ebay for £75 = free sony 4gb mp3 player

Is this the one that's crippled by sonicstage or the new version?
#6
reckon it will be the old one , thats why they are discounting them
#7
newer drag and drop version nwa code so this is the older version.I'll pass.
#8
also new versions dont use sonicstage so are better
#9
SonicStage 4.3 software

I ordered the Play version just before they ran out, got it as a pressie for my wife. As long as she can get her stuff on for the dog walks she is happy; Sonicstage or not. Plus I got the speaker dock too. Now that leaves two choices; sell it to one of the (many) phone owners out there who might appreciate it for £50 rather than the £179 it retails for OR take the Play guy up on his promise that if it is the wrong one they would have to supply me with a compatible version. Both are in the post so I guess it is a win/win situation either way. I voted this hot as it still is a nice player.

Sell it , you will get £75 for it , no problem

Play had the 806 for £80 a few days ago. And the 808 for £100.

The new range is going to push these prices down to clear them out :-D

I bought the NW-A808 half price at £80 yesterday from Comet - Chelmsford. The item was being sold as a discontinued line and the one I got was the last 8gb and it came off display but in perfect / unsoiled nick. The discontinued obviously refers to the newer line which supports drag and drop rather than having to import tunes through Sonic Stage. Word has it that ATRAC is good, so if you are going to re-rip cd's to this format then it is no big deal working around it.

When I was there, there was a 2gb pink one left for £42.

I saw in the Sony store today, that the new 8gb was £150.

I guess there will be many more deals out there. It's a really nice unit though and battery life is good.

It's the wrong version in that the NW-A806 will not dock to it but there is a line in port for external audio sources so no problem. For me the phone docking option is the best as once my K800 is docked I have a very high quality stereo radio system and if my NW-A806 (or any other player) is plugged in I can swap between Phone or MP3 sources using the remote. The speakers are very high quality (all metal construction) and the sound output is stunning.
Play did have the NW-A808 (8GB) + the speaker dock for £99.99 - I missed that deal but managed to get the NW-A806 (4GB) + speaker for £79.99.
I've also got a Sony NW-E005 (2GB) which I picked up from Play for £17.99 and comparing the two the sound quality of the A806 is best - I think you'd be hard pushed to get better.
I use VoidMP3FM to transfer mp3 files to the E005 but had to bite the bullet and install SonicStage 4.3 for the A806 - not sure what all the fuss has been about - it works quite well. The downside of course is that I cannot plug my NW-806 into a friends PC and transfer my music to it - shame there isn't a version of Void for the NW-A80x series but as they're the best MP3 players out there I'll put up with Sonic.
What is rarely mentioned is the quality of the earphones that is supplied with the NW-A80x's (EX82's I think) which are very good indeed compared to the rubbish that is usually bundled in with a player.
Voted hot - £79.99 for a player of this quality is good even without the excellent freebie speaker - that deal was stella hot!

Whats so bad about sonicstage then,
got one of these with the free speaker cradle offer,
Like the look and someone said it sounds good , was going to sell it but thinking about keeping it.

It is good if you have genuine albums..as it sorts by artist and album.
However, if you have downloaded singles... or only want a couple from an album..you can spend forever finding them.
Also, I spent forever sorting my songs into folders on the PC. But you cant even search by folder on the PC, rendering your hard work useless. You therefore find them by artist etc...and put them on the Sony.
You then have the problem that you then have to put them back together as a playlist if you want to use them together again...so all that work a 3rd time.
If it was drag drop I could have just had my whole folder as I liked it. (with more than 1 artist together)

I'm not a fan of SonicStage but it's a lot easier than you make out - of course you can search by folder - just select 'Scan Folders' from the Import menu.

??? No idea what you mean here - I import the tracks/albums I want to put on my mp3 player into the SonicStage library - the original tracks remain untouched so my WMP playlists work as normal.

Edit your id3 tags correctly and your problem will go away.

Last one I saw only made about £30. :-(

Have received my NWA806 and the 'wrong' set of speakers today as well. Not sure whether to send them back or not as basically I need a set of speakers that will also charge the player as it will sit in my sons bedroom most of the time and there is also no Computer in there. Buying the correct speakers makes the deal a bit expensive.
