Good find. Has been a bit cheaper on special offer from Play.com, but Play & Amazon both currently nearly £100 more, so this seems to be the best price around at the moment.

Shame the Nex-3 is excluded from Sony's VAT cashback offer, otherwise this would be a real corker. Still good, though. Heat added.

Actually, just discovered that Currys are doing this camera at the same price, but using code SAVE5 knocks 5% off, bringing the price down to £313.49 and if you get 3% Quidco off as well, it makes the final price £304, so Best Buy are not so good after all.....:)

Yes.

How? There is no option to enter it that I can see for Collect & Reserve, you only seem to get a promotional code box for delivery on their new website....

I'd love to have an excuse to get this or the NEX-5. I heard there was an update coming to fix the 'awful' user interface.....is this true?

The camera is VERY good indeed. The new firmware is also available from the UK site and improves the interface which was far from awful to begin with. The NEX-5 is a little smaller than the 3 and has 1080i video and AVCHD.

Picture quality is well up to DSLR quality.

To all the camera experts out there I've been keeping my eye out on the both the Nex 3 and the Canon PowerShot SX30 IS Digital Camera (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Canon-PowerShot-Wide-angle-Vari-angle-Purecolor/dp/B0042RUAQ6/ref=dp_ob_title_ce) for the past few weeks. Does anyone have any guidance/advice as to which one I should go for? Thanking you muchly in advance.

I really want one of these. I have DSLR but find myself leaving it at home a lot due to the size.

Think I'd rather get a Dual Lens Kit for the extra cash though as the cheapest I've ever seen the 16mm at is £200

Noob question but planning to take first steps towards DSLR. How does this compare with 550D?
#18
Have made an order with currys for NX3, wish it was in black though...

Marginally better than Canon 550D sensor wise. Very similar to the Sony A33 dSLT.

These are two very different types of camera. The Canon is a bridge / superzoom camera and as such has a small sensor and a fixed lens with a massive zoom range both of which will serve to compromise image quality. If this is the type of camera you want there may be better options. For example Fuji HS10, Panasonic FZ100 or FZ45. Similar cameras are also available from Olympus, Nikon, Pentax and Casio.

The NEX 3 on the other hand is a mirrorless interchangeable lens camera with a large sensor that will produce higher quality images than any compact / bridge or superzoom camera.

I would suggest that you first need to decide what you need from a camera and this will indicate what type of camera you need.

I cannot comment on the 550D though I understand it is a very good DSLR. If you are used to using a compact camera I think the NEX-3 will be much easier to get to grips with that a DSLR but will also allow you to explore photography.

We have a NEX-3 and a NEX-5 in the family and as a long time DSLR user (Sony and Pentax) I am very impressed with the NEX cameras. In fact on a recent trip to New York and Miami I left the DSLR at home and just took the NEX. I did not miss the DSLR for a moment.

I think this type of camera will take a big chunk of the DSLR market in the near future.

But much pricier though. I'm going to hold out for the Nex-5 price to tumble, which it will.
