Sony NEX-3NL at Argos for only £224.99

Was looking to upgrade my old Ixus P&S as I recently bought a new DSLR and love the upgrade in image quality... After a lot of research was seriously thinking of buy a Sony NEX and then came across this deal at Argos.

The NEX-3NL has been replaced by the a5000, but if you're not bothered about wifi connection or an increase in megapixels (but not, necessarily, image quality), then you can save yourself £100 by buying this model.

It's not quite as small as the RX100, but is cheaper and has a bigger APS-C sensor. And... I've just ordered a £20 adapter from the US so that I can re-use my old Canon FD lenses! So, even though I will only use this as my P&S in the future (it's very dinky for a mirrorless camera), I will still be able to use it for some 'serious' photography.

This deal isn't bad if you add nice focal reducer, similar thing to metabone and then use some nice fast canon lenses.

Great Camera!
For those of you who want WiFi you could use an Eye-Fi card which doubles as an SD card and wifi adapter!

the NEX cameras are very handy and very clever, but I find myself frustrated when trying to do something clever that I would normally do on a DSLR. I spent about an hour trying to figure out how to do HDR mode on my nex-5 the other day. Still no idea if it has that function or not!!

I don't think the nex-3 supports the app store, which is a bit of a reason to consider models like the 5T that do?

Also the 5T does the wifi thing without an eye-fi.

Menu > Brightness/Color > DRO/Auto HDR

I never use it but took me less than a minute to find it.

So a camera that costs over £100 more is better? Genius stuff here tonight ladies and gentlemen.

Snapsort puts theA7r way down the lists ! ! ! You cannot take it seriously.
The hand held twilight shoot mode is impressive on nex - it takes 3 shots at different exposures and then stitches them into one image , very good in low light.
I think the a3000 is the next 3 replacement - refurb £169 at Sony outlet quite often.

The snapsort comparison is a joke. They set Popularity as a parameter, and the nex 3n got a low score simply because its unknown features received zero marks. See the detailed scores for yourself.

Easily one of the best cameras I've used, it's form factor easily puts it over a dslr for me - to have the same (if not better) performance in a relatively compact body is fantastic, and adapters for old manual lenses make this even better. Focus highlighting is excellent and makes all of the difference without an eyepiece - which, incidentally, is the only thing I feel is missing on the camera.

I've had a Minolta 50mm f1.8 on mine, and the quality is astounding for a package that was less than any entry dslr. The standard lens is very small and is pretty average, but gives a nice focal range.

The menu system and lack of physical buttons is pretty unique (putting it nicely), but once you've gotten used to it and set up a few quick access options. Just dig through the settings and play for a bit.

Low light quality is amazing.

All in all, highly recommended. Either as a primary for an amateur or light user, or as a secondary / travel camera for anyone with a dslr. I love mine and would only part for a higher nex model with a viewfinder.

Yes Sony NEX-3NL is superior, as the sensor is fair bit larger. I would say if you just stick to the kit lens then faster lens on the RX100 means performance is similar but stick a fast prime lens on the NEX and it's comfortably superior.

guys, the time has come for me to upgrade and can you advise me if this is suitable

currently have a nikon d40 which is great for shots but not so good for filmmaking. and also want something a bit more compact

i have read the nex series offers some really good shots, but more importantly can use to make some great short movies.

is this camera suitable or should i pay more for the 5 series. also which model is best value for the nex series or should i be looking at something totally different all together? thanks

Can't find the nex 6 now for £400.

Biggest issue to decide is do you want a viewfinder? If yes then Nex 6 would be better. I would look at the Panasonic G5 as this has quite a good electronic viewfinder.

DSLRs also tend to have easier to operate menus so its good to actually try out a camera in the flesh.

It was there the other day but guess they sold out now as it's being replaced by the A6000

Here is somewhere else that has it though for the same price
http://www.abc-digital-cameras.co.uk/Sony-NEX-6-16-50mm-Kit.html

For me, the NEX cameras are perfect, NEX-5R body with 16-50mm lens easily fits in a jacket pocket, or yesterday I had cargo shorts on and threw it in one of the pockets.

Anyone still interested in this camera but can't find stock
£55 extra for kit with added 55-210mm lens
http://www.abc-digital-cameras.co.uk/Sony-NEX-3N-16-50mm-PZ-55-210mm-Kit.html

It's a nice lens too, although if you don't need it they go for roughly £130 on eBay

in case anyone interested curry's have the nex-5tl discounted to 219.91 at the moment. it is in store and clearance so finding one may be difficult. I picked up the last one at York Clifton moor yesterday. battery was missing but found a replacement generic off Amazon for ~£12 so overall pretty happy (well I will be one the battery comes and I can check the camera works!)

as it's a curry's clearance YMMV, but worth a l look if you're passing a store.
