Is this solid state or hard drive?

What a load of crap this player is, I had one but sent it back. Firstly it's not an MP3 player you have to (through the $ony software) convert your already converted MP3's etc to their awful ATRAC format as you're uploading them to this 'thing' - then if you try and take that track back off the 'MP3' player again it loses it's ID3 tag and will then be a ATRAC file. YUK - thanks for posting but no thanks... :whistling:

Hard Drive
#16
so this is NOT an MP3 player? it converts into sony's proprietry format? So no good for a linux user then?

pah! I was almost tempted... good deal if you are into doing the conversion business ;)

Er, it IS an MP3 player. I have one of these, and all you have to do is set the settings in the software to not convert on transfer. The hardware itself is fine, it's designed well, has a good battery life and works fine. The interface, while not aesthetically stunning, is pleasing and efficient enough. However, I could never recommend this to anyone purely because you are forced to use the godawful SonicStage and/or Connect Player software. I've yet to come across a piece of software that has infuriated me as much as they have. I positively dread changing or updating songs on my device.

It is possible to use different software than the sonicstage poop they bundle with this device, which with an 8gb harddrive and 20hr playback is pretty great really.

this link was posted in another hotukdeals thread for a different machine but it looks like it should work ok.
#20
Im gonna go for this i think... not really bothered about the software, so long as i can at least transfer normal MP3's.

However, what is the size and weight of this like? Can never judge it accurately from info they give... Can anyone post a picture of it compared to say, their mobile? (already checked google...nada)
#21
Thanks to the OP, bought a couple of these tonight. Heat added and rep given.
#22
Well I have ordered one 43.90 after using the voucher as well. A small risk. It looks cool but lets see how it performs. Have to admit I hadn't read the above and feel a little nervous, bit of an impulse buy, just hope I can transfer my mp3 songs stored in my creative player onto it.
#23
They'll likely have ~100 or so orders so I really can't see them cancelling 100 x £43.90 orders for the sake of recouperating an extra £0.05 per order.

PS. The purple one is also in stock at the same price. Just decided to go for it...
#24
Thanks, just bought one!

That's not true, the NW-A1200, the others in that range and Sony's new models ALL will play MP3's without conversion. See "MP3 Direct playback = YES" here

There is a plug-in called Ml_sony that can be used so that WinAmp is able to upload MP3's to the player. Worked great with my 20Gb version of this player so I see no reason why it shouldn't work with this one. Search Google for "Ml_sony " loads of info there. Downside is that you will lose some features, only a couple I remember were the artist link feature and star rating.
#28
I bought one of these as I think its a great deal. I too don't really need one as there is an mp3 player on my phone. I am, however, sick of the sound quality, it is fine to listen too but when you compare it to a 'proper' mp3 player it is quite bad. Plus despite my phone having expandable memory I can only have a 30 songs per playlist and a maximum of 4 playlists. So I will give this a try and if I hate it I'll flog it to someone else. I should make my money back if not a profit.
#29
They sold out during my checkout! Argh!!!

If you don't mind the colour, the purple one still in stock at the same price.
#31
I saw that, thank you for letting me know anyway :) I don't think i'll get it though. It's only a bargain if you get it in the colour you want, cause otherwise you'll always look at it and wish you got the other colour.

To anyone that bought some to sell, I hate you ;p
#32
I wouldn't buy this MP3 player unless you're really desperate, it's absolutely dreadful. Clunky, slow UI and shockingly bad required software.
#33
The UI is good, and you don't need to use Sonic Stage, which isn't that bad any more anyway. My dad has an HD5 and I used to have to demonstrate the 1200 when we had it at our shop.
#34
now OOS...
#35
teddyshady
and by the way, i bet all you bitchers probably own a gay lil skinny iPod Nano, right? or one of them big ones where you watch video on for 10mins then put it away! *****s... does white headphones **** me off on the tube, stupid people follow fashion, no one has a mind of there own now days!

YOU bitch to much, me thinks:p

I disagree. I have had this player for 18 months, it has long battery life, is stylish and has superb sound quality compared to some of its rivals.

The Sony software is fine, but you do not have to use it, very easy to transfer audio files onto it without the need for Sonicstage.

There is an EU volume limiter, but doing a google search will tell you how to remove it.

A superb player for this price, the people bitching about it obviously don't own one.
#37
This might be useful for those who managed to get one.
I've got the Sony NWA1000 6gb and noticed the volume was low, tried this 'hack' which worked a treat, might be worth a try?

#38
Got a confirmation email etc this morning. The silver was funky but looked to bland so got the purple for a splash of colour. Thanks to the OP - cracking deal!

Was between this or the 2GB zen stone plus at the same price.
#39
woohoomoo

For £30.48, effective price, you can get the 2GB Zen V+, from Boots, using the triple points, £7.50 points voucher + quidco.

Hoping to receive mine any day now. Plus, you get a voucher for a pair of travel speakers, making it even better value.
#40
Boots and their whole points system is something ive never looked at before... Any chance you could step me through it a bit better? (might get the V+ too :P Bit of a gadget nut...) Im cool with the quidco, but the points i have no clue with. All instore?

edit: john lewis have despatched my sony player but gave me a 15 character tracking code. The home delivery network states 13 or 16 digits. Tried my 15 one anyway but gives an error. Any ideas?
