good find.

No silver left in any store in our area but finally found a violet one. Guess you need to be quick if you want one.
Great price Rayman, only wish they had flash memory instead of a hard drive because there small enough to use when running or at the gym but the vibrations on the treadmill killed my last one.
Perfect timing, I bought my dad the black NWA1000 for his birthday last year, and he asked me the other day to get one similar for my mum as she kept knicking his whilst on holiday. I looked on argos last week as well at the pink one, but held of getting it at £159, as I hadn't been paid yet this month... but this bargain is going on my 0% card until payday :-)

Had to check 6 stores to find one though
Nice one.Pity i don`t have the dosh just now:roll:.
Out of interest are they easy to use,set up playlists?
Good spot. Have reserved a purple one.. now to decide whether I really need one.
Nice deal, the purple one looks great!
V good price Ray :)

8GB is £99.99 @ !

Im no expert but I have heard the software is terrible but I have never had one. But I do quite like the look of them though:)

the software *is* awful.

however, with a bit of tinkering, you can get it running via winamp.

i got the 20gb version from staples before christmas (for less than this current argos "deal") and within half an hour i was transferring using winamp media library. much much nicer.
has a bit of a guide and some useful links...
I have had the silver one for about 6 months now. They are a good alternative to the ipod imo. They look great too.
The only downside is that you need the software to copy music on to it. I wouldn't use the software included, it's buggy. I would download Sonicstage instead.

You can use it with WinAmp. You need to download the "ml_sony.dll" plugin. It works great. Just drag and drop files into media library.

Another bad point about the Sony Walkman is it's a bit fussy with mp3 tags. They have to be filled in correctly for them to work. If your mp3's don't play or your software crashes when copying files over then it's probably the tags.
I always make sure everything is filled in under the ID3v1 Tag (leave comment box empty). v2 Tag should not be checked. All your mp3's should work fine.

Just my tip for the day ;)
Now, do I go for the Pink or Purple? Got both reserved (one much closer to home than the other).
Thanks for the feedback all and the extra info :)
i truly love my nw-a3000 (purple 20gb player)

its easily the nicest bit of mp3 hardware ive ever owned. battery life on it far surpasses the ipod, controls are intuitive, and if you dont want something that plays movies or any other fancy things (i dont. i just want an mp3 player with good quality sound and long battery life) then it is perfect for the job.

it's just let down by poor software (and a bad reputation because of said software).

if you look around, you might be able to find the odd 20gb unit for around the same price as the 8gb one.. tesco's had them on clearance a while back and staples have the occasional unit on the clearance table, but if storage space isnt an issue, then the 8gb will be more than enough.

although i would recommend getting the official soft case and maybe the inline remote control for it. i got mine fairly cheap from pixmania. (bear in mind the 8gb unit is physically smaller than the 20gb one, so the cases are different)

been a long time lurker, but never really felt the need to post on anything until now :)

hey hey hey... i've got the NWS706 and having upgraded to the latest SonicStage, i've never once had a crash or anything like that. i had a minor problem getting album art but a trip to ATRACLife forums sorted that out. If you don't mind the software not being as slick and glossy as iTunes then seriously, it's not half bad! and a great price... voted hot!
Can't I just plug this in my USB and let Musicmatch do the rest?
Can't I just plug this in my USB and let Musicmatch do the rest?

unfortunately not, you are bound to transfer using SonicStage. there are some alternatives but like me, you may just find SonicStage not that bad to use....
I bought a silver one but the screen has what looks like a line of dead pixels, i.e. there is a annoying white line going across half of one of the lines on the screen (If that makes sense)

The problem is small and I do like the player, would Sony ship a brand new replacement out or should I just go down the refund route with Argos? (They have no stock now)
