Just found this in the Play.com Autumn Sale, seems like a great price at £99.99, and then i noticed you get the speaker cradle (worth £99.99 itself) for free! Figured that warranted it's own post.

(and don't forget Quidco!)

*WARNING* It appears that the free Speaker Cradle isnt actually compatible with the Video Walkmans - check with Play.com before ordering!!

yeah at first i thought that, but then i figured - why would they bundle a speaker system that doesnt work with the walkman?
#5
it has two prongs sticking up on the connector part - which fits into a phone. I think the walkman has one cannector
#6
yeah i have a sneeky feeling Play.com have made a balls up here. have googled around and cant seem to find anywhere that says the 2 are compatible. The cradle for the Video Walkman's is a different model....

It's for the walkman phone range.

"A new speaker system lets music lovers get the most from their Sony Ericsson music phones. The MP001 is a compact and stylish unit containing stereo speakers and a small, cleverly designed hide-away sub-woofer capable of delivering a room-filling 25W (RMS) of music power."

have edited the post accordingly to avoid anyone ordering this without checking. Good work Play.com :whistling:

It also appears it’s only free with the Sony 4GB Video Walkman not the 8GB:x

The picture looks exactly like the Sony CPF-IX001 Wireless Network Speaker System. I bought a similar Sony 2GB a month ago from John Lewis for £99, which came free with the speakers/subwoofer. The dock station has one male connector to the Walkman. The sound is really impressive. However, it looks though the one on play.com is the phone version as a few have pointed out.

Have you got the wireless working on the Sony CPF-IX001?

Works fine with XP, but I never managed to get it working well with Vista (even with the new software versoin 2.5). I can only get it to work over wired LAN and not wi-fi.

Those speakers do work, i got them free from Argos when they had the offer, but at £169.99. They sound excellent! Offer gone tho!

Yeah. Mine works OK with XP on the desktop upstairs but the Sony CPF-IX001 units (I have five) tend to pick up my laptop (Vista) downstairs. I installed the new software but the units still go for Windows Media Player!

I would be pulling my hair out but there's not much left!

As I said before though, great sound. I returned a walkman package to John Lewis and the kid who served me said that they don't usually get the speakers back. They usually refund for the walkmans. Had I known this sooner (and been a little less honest) I could have decked out my house for free. I might even have put speakers in the bathroom, under the stairs, in the garage, the workshop and the shed! :giggle:

To stop the unit picking up Windows Media Player on Vista, just turn 'Media Sharing' OFF, this is in network and sharing center (not that this will cure the Vista/IX001 problem though) :)

Play.com prices have been all over the place today the book I ordered changed from £21 to £25 in the 2minutes it had taken to place the order - very irritating.

Can anyone confirm what the speaker cradle supplied actually is?

The MDS70 / CPFMP001 as stated (compatible with mobiles only) or the
CPF-NW001 Cradle Audio Speaker for NWA800 series (which would make more sense as it is a bundle offer with the NWA model)

You would have to email Play.com. The link and details they provide are for the Sony Ericsson mobile cradle.
#21
It wouldn't make sense for it to be for the SE mobile, though, would it? But Play have been all over the shop today. Maybe they have had their Xmas party early?
#22
Can you drag and drop onto this thing?

Might just sell the speakers.
#23
Anyone interested in taking up this offer make like to note that there are new WMT versions of this A-series coming out that will feature drag'n'drop file transfer i.e. no need for the **** SonicStage software. Models are NWZ-A815 NWZ-A816 NWZ-A818

In a word ... No (see my other post about new models).
#25
WTF. They could just release a firmware patch to support drag and drop.

edit. thanks, will get an iRiver instead.
